Paper Mario. A Mario & Luigi or EarthBound style RPG would not work for a couple reasons, 1, Mario & Luigi is not based upon 1 characters, the battles and overworld interaction are based upon the bros. 2, EarthBound/Chrono Trigger would not work because, well, can YOU see Mr. Game & Watch in one of those games? Paper Mario battles are based on partners and visuals and timing. RPG's like EarthBound are based on just... bash away at the enemy.

No, I won't move into MOTHER. When I do... oh, you'll find out. I'm about to summon it.

Yeah I know a Game and Watch RPG wouldn't work exactly like the Mario and Luigi series, I just used it as another example of an RPG that focuses on accurate timing on button presses to power up your attacks.
And I don't see how a traditional RPG style for a Game and Watch RPG wouldn't work. I mean, now that I think about I can see how the whole lighthearted Paper Mario "press a button as you're about to attack for extra damage" style would probably fit better with Game and Watch, but I don't see how a traditional style wouldn't work.

In Smash Bros 4? Yeah. He'll be there. He was THE original Nintendo character. He was one of the firsts. Before the gameboy this was portables. He'll always be a Nintendo classic, and isn't that the reason why they make Super Smash Bros?

I'd be disappointed to not see him in the next game.

Well, can YOU see Mr. Game & Watch in one of those games? It wouldn't really take advantage of having a limited-animation protagonist, that's what I meant by "based on visuals".
But yes, it COULD work. It would just be... not as creative.

Z EDIT: Prithee, I believe I off-topic'd. I will try to discuss solely Mr. Game & Watch until informed otherwise. Thanks!

He wouldn't fit in one of those games because (as you said) the graphics are completely different. He would look out of place. But I feel like the battle system of an old school RPG could be used for a new Game and Watch game as long as the graphics were more Game and Watch-esque.

It doesn't really matter either way to me. I'd be happy with any kind of Game and Watch RPG XD

I'm done posting here. I stayed on topic and only referenced to things previously mentioned. This is a dumb thread. You don't let me speak my opinion and its really annoying.

If that's the way you feel. That post honestly seemed to be completely irrelevant to the topic at hand and I've told you on numerous occasions to stay on topic and it's not like I banned you for it, either. I wasn't going to go back on my word and let you keep posting off topic. If I were to do that, it only would've gotten more out of hand. This is a very structured thread, and a lot of the things you mentioned were either past or future topics, with maybe one sentence that had "Game & Watch" in it. If you need to continue this conversation, however, continue it via PM's because I don't want to get us off-track.

Not characters that look similar to him. There are so many little different guys in that universe. And you mustn't forget, collections have been released of Game & Watch, so it's not like it's completely fell out of it's consciousness.
But pretty much, yes. And I'm not saying I would really mind it if all the NPC's were not like Mr. Game & Watch, I just don't really think it would work if all the characters in the protagonist's world were not like the protagonist. IE, Paper Mario. Everyone's paper, like Mario.
I'm not proposing Mr. Game and Watch should walk around a world full of tradition anime characters or anything (though, that said, I think that'd be pretty neat). All I'm saying is give the world some colour. Please excuse the shoddy mock-up, but I think it gets the point across:

I don't think adding colour distracts from Mr. Game & Watch's appearance at all. In fact, I think it makes him look better. As I said earlier, my favourite part about the character is watching his movements in comparison to other Brawlers. The vividly animated world around him draws attention to his differences; it makes him more interesting and unique. And, really, it's not as if we're mixing water and oil here.

But even if we were, I still don't see the problem with that. You can artistically mismatch styles and still have it turn out great. For instance, take The Amazing World of Gumball. It mixes flash animation, cgi, live action, puppetry and... pretty much every graphical style ever created. Look at it, there's absolutely no visual unity to this show:

And, frankly, still looks really good... or at least decent enough to win an Annie Award.

The only way they get around him just being thrown in a colorful environment would be if they had a really unique storyline, perhaps where their entire world is engulfed in black and white, and Mr. Game & Watch must go on an adventure to restore color to his world or something like that. There are a bunch of possibilities.
Epic Mickey? I thought about that, but then decided it sounded too much like the aforementioned. It'd still be a fun concept, if not a little worn.

I also think the concept of him being an ink blot as LtS mentioned earlier would be neat. Even better, to explain his movements, abilities and name, he could literally be a video game character who wandered into an alternate universe, or the real world, or an entirely different game or something of the sort. Add tons of humour and fourth-wall brakes and voila!

This needs to happen. Although are we talking a Paper Mario/Mario and Luigi style RPG (large emphasis on button pressing and correct timing) or a Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest/Earthbound style RPG?

And I only brought up Earthbound because its the only example of a traditional RPG by Nintendo that I could think of. I don't want this to shift into a discussion about Ness and Lucas in SSB4 yet.
As others have said, I imagine it being a Paper Mario-esque title. Personally, I'd lean more towards Super Paper Mario's gameplay, if we want to be specific- he has many moves in his arsenal that would be amazing for a traditional platformer. But I'm totally not against turn-based combat intertwining with this, because I could also see that working nicely for him as well.

On the subject of RPGs, while it's best to not make things overly complex, I'd love there to be a sort of branching story path in some way. The fact that he doesn't know good from evil creates a lot of options to explore, both through dialogue trees and gameplay. It'd be a shame for that not to play a role in such a title.

...And on that note, I think we're honestly among the only ones in the world who could suggest a Mr. Game & Watch RPG with a straight face. ::D:

Wait... One last comment. What does a Mr. Game and Watch RPG have to do with the current topic of if he'll still be in brawl?

What is the reasoning behind you raging on me for posting slightly off topic, but still on the topic of brawl, but not going off on someone who is talking about an idea of a completely new series?

Uhhhh huhhhh... >.>
