I think that would be fantastic... if Nintendo were to do something like that. Like you said, the fact that Mr. Game & Watch doesn't have a concept of good or evil could provide for the perfect splitting path for a good or bad ending. If done right, it could be an incredible concept. The thing is, there really aren't any first-party Nintendo games that have any gameplay like that. I think it is a stellar thought, but probably out of any realm of possibility, even if they cared about our opinions lol. As for the dialogue trees themselves, doesn't Mr. Game & Watch lack the ability to talk in the first place? You are absolutely right in regards to the comment about us being the only ones to see a Game & Watch RPG as a plausible idea. I even mentioned it to my brother when we were playing Brawl and he kind of gave me that "Meh" vibe. It just seems that people don't really care to see anything from Mr. Game & Watch anymore. Sorry if I didn't stress this enough, but I really meant for this to be a more off-topic topic than most (though I still didn't want comments on completely different subjects like yours). I specifically mentioned how this would be more of a discussion on the characters and their futures themselves, not only their inclusion in SSB4. As long as you focus on specifically the character at hand, I think this could potentially be one of the best topics for you, since it isn't as structured as the others. Just respond to the ideas about the specific character at the time from others and offer up your own ideas and I won't have a problem. Edited by Pokemon Z RPG, 15 Mar 2012, 02:42 AM.

OK, NOW it makes a bit more sense. I had a weird visual idea of a 3D world, not a 2D one. It didn't work as well in the 3D one. Anyways, in my opinion, if Mr. Game & Watch is brought back, PEOPLE WILL WANT to see him. Look at Kid Icarus. At the possibility of a new game featuring him, the kiddies go wild. Anyways, I like the idea of a branching story, like Chrono Trigger or Shadow the Hedgehog. Since Mr. G&W is basically an ink blot, he is quite easy to manipulate. He can go to the side of good, which may or may not have deeper, more sinister intentions (think the angels from Black Butler) or the side of evil, which may be actually doing good. Heh, it's nice fanfic material. The ending of the game is chosen by what you do, what you say, what you choose to kill, and so on and so forth. Like Chrono Trigger, the biggest factor is the final battle. Who do you choose to kill? What will you do? And so on and so forth. This is so fun to work with. Anyways, on the subject of "Game & Watch".... http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/iwata/iwata_asks_game_watch_44907_44908.html |

I don't think it's that no one cares... if Nintendo makes a decent game with a recognisable face, it is pretty much guaranteed to sell no matter what. Pretty much, what LtS said concerning Kid Icarus. Although I don't think KI is completely comparable to Mr. Game & Watch since Pit arguably has a much bigger following, it's a similar concept. Hm, good point. I hate to keep pulling ideas from Paper Mario, but I'd probably the way dialogue options work like they do in that series. You'd select a text answer and Mr. Game and Watch would proceed to pantomime it on the screen with over-the-top movements. Exactly my thoughts! It doesn't even have to dwell into the good/evil thing too far, since Mr. G&W does not seem to know about/care either way. But not ignore that segment of the character just to turn him into the typical silent protagonist would be such a loss of potential! |

But is there a point where it becomes too much like Paper Mario? I would like to delve into the other character possibilities for a bit. In the old Game & Watch games, there were really only generic characters (heck, Mr. Game & Watch wasn't known as "Mr. Game & Watch" until Melee), so what do you think in terms of allies and villains? Do you think there would be something like a partner system in, dare I say it, Paper Mario? Or do you think you would simply find people along the way whom would be added to a party kind of style? As for villains, what kind of enemies do you think would be cool to see? |

To be fair, Paper Mario didn't create the silent protagonist RPG genre... or 2D art for that matter. However, if a game like this were to be made, it'd most certainly have to be unique in its own ways to avoid comparisons. I'd stay away from the partner system since I don't see how it completely enriched SPM's gameplay (besides, Mr. G&W can do pretty much anything that another character might considering his moveset), but that doesn't mean Mr. Game & Watch has to be traveling alone. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what NPCs or enemies should look like, but it'd be cool to revive other characters from the Game & Watch games and properly give them names and backgrounds. |

I think we discussed having the NPC's be generic G&W characters, but I may be wrong. Basicly color, 3D updated versions of the generic characters is what I visualize. For a newer series, it could develop anywhere, so we could have the villan be something as outragious as Marx and no one would really care. I think the villan should be something as ruthless as Ganondorf, we need more of those people in cartoony RPG's. A comical and nonthreataning villan only works for a while, look at Count Bleck. Sure, he was a bit comical, but he was a THREAT. And Dimento was BA. |

I'm not so sure on what roles different villains and characters could play, because they would practically have to be made from scratch for this revitalization of the franchise simply because of how little we know of the few generic un-named characters that were in the old Game & Watch games. It's really hard to try predicting what enemies there would be in the game without designing the game ourselves. xD Anyway, is there anything else you guys want to touch on in regards to Mr. Game & Watch's future? Because the discussion seems to have stalled out and I'm not sure for how much longer it can go on. We could always talk about the different genres he could be in if you want, but just let me know if you don't think we should finish this sub-topic just yet. |

Agreed. Could we possibly move onto the discussion of less popular franchises in brawl? Such as Fire Emblem, which a lot of people know about but they don't actually play it often. Or just the topic of what characters won't make the cut in general. I think we've been having too narrow of topics. |

Sorry, but this is actually just a sub-topic amongst many in the third topic. There are still quite a few characters to cover here. I don't think the topics are narrow at all, and having a short discussion for this one wasn't bad at all considering how it is only a sub-topic. I will get started on the accolades for this sub-topic ASAP and then will introduce the next character we will discuss! Stay tuned for that! |
