Since I just posted a thread (see it here) about the possibility of an F-Zero on the WiiU, I couldn't think of a better character sub-topic to revive this thread with than Captain Falcon!![]() Topic #3: The Forgotten Characters of Smash Bros. Sub-Topic #3: Captain Falcon Questions for discussion: Do you think Captain Falcon will be in Super Smash Bros. 4? What do you think will become of Captain Falcon and the F-Zero series? What would you like to see in future F-Zero games, if there were to be any? First of all, a little history on Captain Falcon. Captain Falcon made his first appearance in F-Zero on the Super Nintendo in the year 1990, and was in the following games afterward: F-Zero X (N64) - October, 1998 (North America) F-Zero GX (GameCube) - August, 2003 (North America) There were 1 or 2 other games in the F-Zero series, but Captain Falcon was not in them. One of which is F-Zero: Maximum Velocity for the GBA. I honestly haven't had much experience with the F-Zero series, with F-Zero GX being the only one I own. Even that, I have barely played and really need to give more of a chance. The only thing I really recall is that the cars moved extremely fast and that, obviously, it was a racing game. I've heard nothing but praise for the F-Zero series, though, and Captain Falcon is definitely a loved Smash Bros. character. Do you think Captain Falcon will be in Super Smash Bros. 4? This question most likely shouldn't have been up there, but I figured I'd throw that in there since I did the same thing with the two previous characters. Most definitely, Captain Falcon WILL be in the next Smash Bros. Without a doubt. As I said, Miyamoto has shown some interest in having an F-Zero on the WiiU recently. Pair that with the fact that Captain Falcon has been in every Smash Bros. installment thus far and there's no reason he shouldn't be in SSB4. What do you think will become of Captain Falcon and the F-Zero series? What would you like to see in future F-Zero games, if there were to be any? As I've said, with the recent info that Miyamoto may have interest in doing a WiiU F-Zero, my hope has certainly been revived for the franchise. I mentioned in the E3 2012 Hype thread that I hoped to hear about a revival of the franchise and that is primarily because I've heard great things about the franchise and I haven't had a rich history with the series. I think that F-Zero's unique gameplay could be a great refresher that we haven't been used to from Nintendo recently and certainly a great refresher for me, since I don't dabble in many racing games. Perhaps, if they ever feel the need to, they could try dabbling in other genres with the F-Zero series, but as it stands there is absolutely no reason for them to change it up yet, since aside from the Mario Kart games, driving games aren't usually Nintendo's forte. I can't really comment on gameplay features I would like to see for the series either, because I've only played F-Zero GX and for a very short amount of time. Maybe I will try playing some more of it soon to add some more worthwhile input! Anyway, what do you guys think? Let me know your answers to these questions and offer up any other ideas or questions if you have them! Thanks for the patience up until now! |

Captain Falcon's an interesting one, as it seems the Smash Bros. series has done more to define his characteristics and status as a gaming icon than his actual parent series has. Of course, the question of him appearing in SSB4 or not isn't even open for discussion; he will. I'm just interested to see what more additions the next installment brings to the Captain, as I believe his character as remained much the same from the original Smash game to Brawl. Additionally, I look forward to any new/updated stages from his franchise. They aren't the most creative or even fun stages, but the F-Zero locations are always very unique. As for Captain Falcon's future, I think another F-Zero installment would be great. I've admittedly never played an F-Zero title, but as Z previously said, I've not heard anything but praise for the series. As long as Miyamoto's (and, by extension, Nintendo's) interest in continuing its better-known yet neglected franchises remains throughout the development of the inevitable "main" (read: Mario and Zelda) Wii U titles, then I wouldn't throw the idea out. I'd also adore seeing Captain Falcon in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing 2 as the Wii U's "guest character", just as Banjo and Kazooie served as Microsoft's guest characters in its predecessor. The fact that the Mario appearing idea was thrown out early in ASR1's development to prevent cross contamination with the Mario & Sonic series means that the slot is still open. And seeing as Captain Falcon is a racer, and F-Zero GX was developed by SEGA, the choice is pretty much a no-brainer. Also, there's absolutely no way we could let this topic slide by without posting this, so I'm just going to get it out of everyone's system right now: |

Pretty much this. He's been in all three games so far and is an established veteran. Despite the lack of new F-Zero titles he's definitely coming back. As for new F-Zero games, eh. Honestly the only racing game I really enjoy is Mario Kart. And that's because it's been so....Nintendo-ified? Like the fact that there are crazy items to throw at people and courses with tons of unique obstacles. It doesn't take itself too seriously. I know next to nothing about the F-Zero series, but it strikes me as more of a traditional racing game, one that doesn't have any of the things that make me love Mario Kart so much. That's not to say I'm AGAINST a new F-Zero game though. I'm sure tons of other people would enjoy it. Just thought I'd point out why I personally wouldn't be too psyched about a new F-Zero game. |

Yeah, I find it kinda interesting that the anime took Captain Falcon's attributes from Super Smash Bros. rather than the actual F-Zero games available at the time. Anyways, Captain Falcon will obviously return. NO ONE would play the game if you couldn't spam Falcon Punches just to hear the epicness of his voice. And SOMEone needs to represent F-Zero, and Captain Falcon is the one most people know. Sooo... yeah, quite obvious. RANDOMFACTOFTHEDAY: Captain Falcon's car from F-Zero is the final Light Kart unlocked in Mario Kart Wii. A new F-Zero game would be AWESOME. And I hope the Track Editor from F-Zero X DD (for N64 DD) returns. That was SOOOO COOL, being that it was what the game designers used to make the original tracks. I haven't played much of the games, but I have heard that they are REALLY FUN, and I played around with it once on a Nintendo 64 DD emulator. (WHAT? YA THINK I'M GONNA PAY $16,000 FOR A PIECE OF JUNK?) And if Captain Falcon is in SEGA All-Stars Racing 2, I will HUG SEGA SO HARD, but they better give him Falcon Punch. For moves, I think that MAYBE, just MAAAAAYBE, he should use his gun. What gun, you say? LOOK AT THE GUN! LOOK AT IT! It's kinda funny how many Ganondorf's Swords you can find, Sheik's knife, Snake's handgun, ect. I don't know if this will happen, and I doubt it will, but Black Shadow should be a character!!! YAAAAY! WITH SUBTITLES! Wait, so Ryu is the one spreading memes in Brawl? *mindblown* |

Honestly, I don't think Captain Falcon's gun is as vital to his character as a sword is to Ganondorf, but nevertheless it's odd he is equipped with a weapon yet never uses it. I can't imagine how it could be worked into his mostly close-combat moveset, or why they decided to include the gun into his design anyway. It's almost as if the gun is used simply for the sake of style... so maybe Captain Falcon could use it in a taunt or something? XD |

Just as long as he uses it, it makes him look cool, so yeah. And I like guns. I realize it isn't that important, but still. HE HAS A GUN. |

If Captain Falcon doesn't end up utilizing his gun in anyway, I'd love for that fact to be lampshaded somewhere. Perhaps it could be mentioned in his trophy profile, or even in one of those Snake's Codec-esque easter eggs. SNAKE: Better watch out for that guy, he looks armed. OTACON: Actually, he doesn't really use that gun much... |

EEK! Sorry about that everyone, I am very much willing to revive this thread now. Obviously the discussion on this sub-topic has died off really quickly. So, does anyone have anything else to see on this sub-topic or would you rather just move onto the next topic? And if we should move on, are there any more of the characters within this discussion that you would like to cover or would you prefer to move onto another core topic? The reason I ask is because these sub-topics don't seem to be thriving in discussion as much as the bigger ones. |
