Yes, I have heard this as well! I am definitely looking forward to seeing the progression within the next few years. Anyway, without further ado... Topic #2: Pokemon Characters in Smash Bros. ![]() When it comes to Smash Bros., Pokemon have become quite the staple for the franchise. This topics probably won't take as long as the first one, but I think we should be able to cover all of our Pokemon predictions for Super Smash Bros. 4 as well as perhaps some discussion about the Pokemon that will appear as Pokemon! First of all, I would just like to present a list of all of the Pokemon that have made appearances as playable characters in the Smash Bros. franchise:
As you can see, the library of Pokemon characters in the franchise really isn't as extensive as you may have imagined, not taking into account the pokeballs as items. So, just to get the ball rolling here... What do you think will become of the current Pokemon residents in Smash Bros. (Jigglypuff, Lucario, Pikachu, and Pokemon Trainer)? If any replacements, who do you think will replace any of them? First, I am almost 100% sure Jigglypuff and Pikachu will be playable characters again because they have been in the franchise since the beginning and are now some of the biggest staples. Not just any flimsy staples, either. These staples are some tough material... While I suppose a minimal argument could be made against Jigglypuff, there are almost no reasons to get rid of either of them. As for Lucario... I am actually the opposite with Lucario. I am almost 100% sure that Lucario WILL be replaced in Super Smash Bros. 4. The reason being, it seems like they are starting to form a trend after Melee, where each installment will feature a new legendary in place of the last ones. First, there was Mewtwo in Melee, then there was Lucario in Brawl, so now I think Zoroark would be the obvious choice for Smash Bros. 4. He does in fact seem to be the primal legendary Pokemon of the most recent Unova region since Nintendo seem to love showing him off every chance they get. On top of that, I think Zoroark would be a perfect fit for the franchise after Lucario seemed to fit in fairly well in Brawl. His moves would still probably be similar to those of Mewtwo and Lucario again, but I can also see some very unique potential attacks they could use for his moveset as well. Lastly, Pokemon Trainer. I really think the idea of having three starters' evolutions all put into one character was a brilliant idea, and I still think it could continuously be brilliant if executed properly. There is such an incredible potential when it comes to Pokemon Trainer that I think Sakurai would be foolish not to take advantage of it. Like you guys mentioned before the actual discussion started, my brother and I have been saying, ever since we started speculating the next Smash Bros. game a few years ago, that it would be fantastic to have a Pokemon Trainer designed for every region, with the according evolutions. I would be giddy with joy just to see that happen. It's a far star to reach for, but I can dream like the rest of us. So there you have it. Let me know what you think on this quick starting subject! EDIT: I also made the main first post of this thread sexier as well! Edited by Pokemon Z RPG, 21 Feb 2012, 10:55 PM.

Pikachu and Jigglypuff are here to stay, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Pikachu is definitely the most recognisable of all the Pokemon, and quite a unique character in terms of attacks. As for Jigglypuff... well, she makes a good punching bag, and who else can I ship with Kirby? I have to agree with Z that Lucario's probably going to be replaced this time around. I'm not too sad about his loss, though I really like the concept behind Lucario. The more damage he takes, the more powerful he becomes; I'd like that idea to be reused on a future character. Pokemon Trainer is also really cool in concept, though I think it's execution could be handled slightly better in terms of switching Pokemon. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure he'll make a glorious comeback in the next game. I'm still not so sure how viable the idea of making multiple trainers is; it seems somewhat unnecessary. I mean, I guess there being seven or so characters from a single franchise isn't that far of a reach, the Mario Bros. series already has five characters, and more if you count DK. Still, I have trouble seeing it happen. I do think different gen Pokemon appearing as alternate skins is a doable -and really neat- idea, though. |

I'm hoping they remove Jigglypuff, because nearly no one actually uses "it." And I would hope for it to be replaced by Victini or some other legendary from Unova. |

Victini? *Googles* Sorry, you'll have to excuse me if I don't recognise certain names. Anyway, I still can't see Jigglypuff getting the axe, but Victini seems like an interesting Pokemon, and I suppose there's a ton of options for fighting moves. The fire/physic mix could be a really neat combination. As for it being a suitable replacement for Jigglypuff ![]() OK. |

Well that's kind of assuming like I did with Sheik in the other topic. Just because the people you know don't play as Jigglypuff doesn't mean everyone does. I personally don't necessarily choose Jigglypuff, but I think she is a pretty good all-around character if you really evaluate her gameplay and moveset. I never really have many problems winning when I play as Jigglypuff, for the most part. But while I don't think think Jigglypuff will be replaced, that doesn't mean there isn't any room for Victini to be added. My brother brought up that same suggestion for a character a while ago, and while I was hesitant at first, I can definitely see some potential for Victini to fit in. Victini is definitely one of the most interesting legendaries and, like MvS said, the Fire-Psychic type as well as his moves could prove to be a really cool moveset and character overall. |

One other thing... Every generation of Smash Bros since Melee (which happens to only be two games but still...) has had the main movie Pokemon of the first Movie of the Generation of Pokemon. For example, on Melee they had Mewtwo. Then Mewtwo was replaced with the movie Pokemon Lucario. Could Zoroark be a possible character in the next Smash Bros? |

LOL Did you even read my first post? Because I certainly mentioned the recurring theme and the fact that Zoroark is a great possibility. |

Pikachu is definitely going to be kept in Smash Bros 4, and hopefully Jigglypuff will as well. As people have already pointed out, things don't look so good for Lucario. Odds are he'll be replaced with Zoroark (again, as people have already pointed out). As Z said, it would be amazing to have 5 different pokemon trainer characters, each with the starters for their respective region. But that would kinda over-represent Pokemon within the Smash Bros franchise so I don't think that's too likely. They'll probably just replace Red with one of the player characters from Gen V, and give him the gen V starters. On a semi-side note, it would be cool if the different skins for Pokemon Trainer were the different player characters from the games. Like the default would be the male player character from Black/White, and then you could choose between Red, Gold, Silver, Leaf, etc. |
