It probably is haha, but it always bugged me that even though Magikarp was the pokemon that was widely stated to be useless because all it could do was splash, Goldeen got the position in SSB. I figured having Magikarp work this way would focus on how its "useless" in its first form but awesome in its second form.
Yes, I definitely agree that Goldeen was an almost idiotic choice to represent a useless Pokemon for the Smash Bros. series. Unfortunately it was a huge missed opportunity to have the useless, yet iconic, Magikarp as a pokeball Pokemon versus Golden, who will probably forever be known as the "useless pokeball". Sadface.

Also, a friend of mine showed me this, which draws us back to the Gen V legendaries:
http://ds.ign.com/articles/121/1219443p1.html

We figured that Zekrom and Reshiram would definitely be included in SSB4 in some way (maybe in a stage that functions as SSB4's version of the Spear Pillar?), but this makes me question that theory. Maybe these new forms of Reshiram and Zekrom will make it in instead?
Yeah, my brother informed me of this as well (which I will probably be making a thread on after I finish this post) and while I think these new forms look pretty cool, I can't imagine them being pokeballs or playable characters. I can definitely see them, like you mentioned, as a pretty badass stage as a step up from Spear Pillar. There is definitely some potential in that idea.

When you catch the foe in it, the ball will fall to the platform right below it, if no platform it will fall straight to the ground---but here's the catch. They can rapidly press A to make the ball shake in a similar way to the Pokemon catch animation in the game. So if they are falling off a platform when caught then they can escape and still make it back up before they die... Maybe. Haha. But yeah. You would be able to do damage while you are captured.
That would definitely make the item more fair, and a very awesome strategic move if cleverly thrown. If you think about it, though, master balls aren't really supposed to be escapable, but like I said earlier, a lot of factual things need to be sacrificed for the sake of fun I suppose. I could definitely see this as being one of my favorite items if it were to be put into effect.

As for Victini, I see a lot of potential in him being in SSB4. But there has to be more than just Victini. I'm betting on at least 3 or more Generation V Pokemon in the game, because in my opinion this generation is definately the best gameplay wise and Pokemon is gaining a bigger audience for the games more than they have ever done before. I'd like to see some Pokemon such as the starters and maybe a couple of legendaries like Genesect or something.
I honestly think you would be expecting a bit too much with assuming there would be 3+ generation V Pokemon. Fans expected TONS of new characters when Brawl first came out, but there were probably quite a bit less than people expected. To be honest, I'm only expecting Zoroark to replace Lucario and possibly the addition of Victini, but I'm definitely not expecting much more than that, especially if the Pokemon Trainer is replace by generation V's trainer and starter evolutions.

That's a really neat idea. Would it take longer to break out if you're at a higher percent? Like how there is a higher likelihood of catching a pokemon after it's weakened.

Maybe it could be changed to an ultra ball or a great ball? Although those aren't nearly as iconic as the master ball, which in turn pales in comparison to the regular poke ball. But the pokeball is taken, and a master ball can't be escaped from. I guess, like you said, tiny details would need to be sacrificed for the sake of this item. Unless we just assume that SSB characters are so much more powerful than your average pokemon that they can just break out of a master ball with enough effort XD

Anyway, I don't really see the Pitfall seed as a very important item. I would much rather have my master ball idea take its place.

I can see it staying in so that Animal Crossing can continue to be represented. I'll just leave it at that though, because I'm pretty sure it'll be a later topic.

I seriously like this idea! But with such a gamble, it'd have to make its use worth the risk, so throwing it at others would have to yield a decent damage amount... and perhaps even heal a few percentage points of damage for the user?

Hmmm....it would be a little difficult to balance. There's a large risk, so I can see people being motivated to just let magikarp sit there and eventually go away. Maybe if he isn't attacked while he's out he could evolve right before he disappears and randomly attack one person? Kinda like scizor from melee.

I would expect that Brawl characters are stronger than our average Pokemon.

As for the damage idea... That'd make more sense if it took more button mashing of A to escape if your damage is really high, similar to the way a Pokemon reacts in the game once in a ball.

Yeah, there's definitely a good chance the item will return anyway, but that's also assuming the item can't be replaced by another. Anyway, yeah, item talk is a whole other discussion.

Alright, is there anything else you guys would like to discuss within the topic of "Pokemon Characters in Smash Bros."? Or do you think I should just do the endgame accolades and choose the next topic? If you really have something worthwhile to still talk about in regards to this particular topic, don't hesitate to propose it as another mini-discussion.

I've got nothing to add. We pretty much know Pikachu and Jigglypuff's movesets, and can infer most of Zoroark's based on Mewtwo's and Lucario's.
And I've got nothing more to add on the subject of skins. I've already said what I hope Nintendo will do for Pokemon Trainer skins, and the Jigglypuff and Pikachu skins are typically pretty good. Hopefully Zoroark will have better skins than Lucario did though.

Well... I have some more to say. Since, according to Miyamato, the development of this game won't start until after Kid Icarus is finished then could there possibly be a chance of the new forms of Kyurem in this game as Pokeballs... Or as characters?

Considering we already covered this subject previously (we pretty much concluded that they will probably be included as a Spear Pillar-esque stage of sorts), I would say there is not much else to say on the subject. They will most likely make an appearance in one way or another.

...Also, we already mentioned that development on the next Smash Bros. game has just started recently, but that definitely wouldn't be any reason for the new Kyurem forms to be excluded since they obviously didn't just begin development on Black and White 2 (so there was plenty of time to plan it out).

Oh, and just for future reference, it was Sakurai that stated this, not Miyamoto. Miyamoto doesn't have much to do with the series, unfortunately.

Anyway, I will definitely get working on the endgame accolades for this topic as well as the topic starter for our next topic (which shall not be revealed yet). So, look forward to that and go post in some other threads until then, or suggest more engame accolade ideas if you have any!

Cool, thanks for just ending the topic without anyone's approval. I still have things to discuss.

Such as what other items from Pokemon could they make?

What new stages could they make for Pokemon...?

Etc. Etc.

We've already discussed various items, though if you have more to say you're more than welcome to. Additionally, the topic is specifically "Pokemon Characters in Smash Bros."- I'm guessing we'll dwell into stages later.

Lemme know who gets what, Z, and I'll throw random stuff at the screen make the banners again. =P

Stages might be a later topic, but I'd assume the Spear Pillar would be replaced by N's castle. With Reshiram and Zekrom occasionally appearing in the background to interfere with the fight similar to Dialga and Palkia. Unless of course we instead get a stage based off Black/White 2 with Black Kyurem and White Kyurem instead.
And depending on how SSB4 decides to handle the inclusion of stages from the previous three games, we'll probably see either Kanto Pokemon Stadium (from melee) or Pokemon Stadium II (from brawl) returning.
