Kaidin, Tessick & Alema...; On the Corruption [ 06/15/05 ]

Eyes shifting back and forth across the console in front of him, Kaidin had auto on as he reclined in the pilot's chair. They were coasting through space, off to a distant planet by the name of Naboo. Kaidin had heard it was pretty -- and he had some contacts there. A perfect place to lead Zekk and his little friend.

With a yawn, he slammed his heels on the edge of the panel, leaning back in the seat. Tessick said he would keep an eye on the prisoner while Kaidin piloted and chose there course and whatnot... so there Kaidin sat, singing annoyingly loud to himself.

Tessick sat a bit uncomfortably in a seat, across the table from Alema -- his eyes trailing around everywhere except to hers.

"If you're tired, you can take my bunk. Gods know I won't be sleeping anytime soon... and I wouldn't even think about making you take Kaidin's. You can't even find where to sleep, he has so much junk in there. When he wants to sleep he kind of curls up in a corner like a little gort."

He finished his ramble, not even knowing how he got onto it, and let out a deep sigh.

Alema glared at Tessick - she had picked up the names of her captors by this point - from across the table. A small part of her felt guilty for it because Kaidin seemed to be more of the mastermind behind this scheme. It was a bit unfair to blame Tessick when he had actually been relatively nice to her, aside from the whole gun to her head thing. She squashed the thought impatiently.

"He sounds like a fascinating person." She replied sarcastically. "And I think I’ll take you up on that offer. Care to show me where it is, exactly?" She asked.

"Depends on your definition of fascinating." The last word of the sentence was punctuated with Kaidin's singing drifting back from the cockpit, a high note that Kaidin wasn't hitting at all.

Tessick winced.

"It's right back here." He stood up and meandered over to a door on the side of the corridor, pressing in the code to get to the door to open. He motioned into the fairly well-sized room. It was tidy, there were a few shirts lying in the corner, but besides that it was clean. Unlike Kaidin's, which was across the hall from his. The bunk is Tessick's was even made neatly.

Alema winced as well at the singing, shaking her head slightly as she stood and followed Tessick. She surveyed the room, mildly surprised to find it, well, clean. She had never expected to associate the words 'kidnapper' and 'tidy' with each other.

She turned to thank him, then caught herself, reminding herself sternly that he had, after all, abducted her, and she had no real reason to be grateful. Instead she turned away, glancing somewhat forlornly around her as she wondered how long she would be here, and what, if anything, to say to her captor. Eventually, for lack of anything better, she gave in and murmured a soft "Thank you."

"Hey Tessick! Heeeeeeeey!" Kaidin's head was hanging over the arm of the chair as he called out to his partner. His voice drifted from the cockpit, louder and more intelligible than his singing.

"I have a good idea of where were headed -- and I'm about to comm up Zekky-nerf and let him know."

A maniacal cackle followed the shouted statement then Kaidin slammed himsef back into his seat, setting his feet back up on the control panel.

His head snapped towards the voice, his body leaning against the doorframe. He was turning his attention to Kaidin, when he recalled something that happened mere seconds before.

Wait, did she just say thank you?

Ignoring Kaidin for the moment, he glanced back to Alema. "Welcome..."

He couldn't remember if he really replied, even though he did. And it just came out in a slight whisper. He glanced back up towards the cockpit, then spoke normally.

"You get some rest then. I'll be up there if you need me." Ruffling his crimson hair with his left hand, he nodded and dashed off, jumping up the small set of stairs towards the corridor that led up to the cockpit.

Alema watched him go for a moment, wanting to feel angry but somehow unable to do so. Tessick was completely unlike anyone she had ever met, and it confused her more than she wanted to admit, even to herself.

Glancing down at the more-than-a-little-scanty outfit she was wearing, the twi'lek decided it was really not the sort of thing she wanted to be sleeping on a strange ship with two men in, and, after a moments thought, grabbed one of the shirts lying in the corner of the room and slipped it on before curling up on the bed to try to sleep.

As Tessick entered the area, Kaidin kicked his feet off and spun the pilots seat around, facing him. "Hey there, buuuuudddddddy."

He sat slumped in the seat, one elbow on the arm of the chair, opposite leg over the other, a bored expression smattering his face.

"I'm gonna call Zekk soon -- and tell him were headed to Naboo."

"Alright." He stared at Kaidin, body leaned against this doorframe as well. He waited for a couple moments as Kaidin just stared blankly at him.

"Is that all?"

Kaidin waited a few moments before ignoring Tessick's inquiry.

"Aren't you supposed to be watching the prisoner?!"

Tessick's eyes widened as he stared down at the seated Kaidin. "You're the one who called me up here, kriffmouth!" Shaking his head, he turned towards the exit and waved his hand at Kaidin, who he could hear cackling wildly behind him.

He repeated the sentence he had said to Alema just a few minutes earlier, except changing the location, "I'll be back there if you need me."

He watched Tessick exit the cockpit and turned towards the comm unit on the wall to his left. Punching in a few numbers, he grabbed the small handheld device from it's spot and slumped back in the pilots chair, transmitting his message straight to the Lightning Rod...

He leaned in his quarters to tell Alema that it wouldn't be long before they got to their destination but she was already asleep. Asleep in one of his shirts, in fact. Probably not in a very deep sleep yet, but Tessick didn't want to disturb her.

Stepping back towards the table, he scooted one of the chairs around it and sat down. He made sure he had set the chair in a spot where he could look into his room and see that Alema was okay --- and also so he could turn the other way and look into the cockpit, to make sure Kaidin wasn't going to get them killed or anything.

Alema had a strong dislike of nightmares. She would have termed it hatred, actually, except that hate was not an emotion Jedi generally encouraged. She suspected her feelings were left over from her days as a slave girl, when having nightmares strong enough to wake up whoever you had been stuck with for the night usually resulted in some sort of unpleasant punishment.

It was, in fact, those memories and others that had prompted her current dream. Sleeping in strange beds sometimes did that, aided by the Force. She thrashed back and forth with frantic, unintelligible murmurs, her lekku writhing like restless snakes.
