Gadell and Aurelio- old friends reunited; the Penfiftina, Hapes [8/30/05]

The Penfiftina was a relatively clean cantina on the edge of the capital city.

Anna Liotrus had owned it back in the day, back when the Hapan Commander had been a little rugrat of a boy, walking the streets as if he owned them. The new bartender had expanded it into a little cafe- open air tables for those who wanted to dine in the Hapan sunshine, and a lunch counter that served the occasional bowl of topato salad.

Gadell had taken to stopping in here on his days off for a cup of caf and some of the local culture- it was his way of keeping his ear to the ground, staying on top of what was happening in the city.

He took a seat at the lunch counter with a good view of the door and ordered some limeade. He hoped he'd be able to recognize his old friend Aurelio when (and if) he showed up.

Speaking quite animatedly into the mic of a comlink, Aurelio strolled towards the Penfiftina, sighing loudly at the person on the other end.

"Yes, Ravane, I did get one of those stupid journal things."

A pause as he listened to the jabbering on the other end.

"No! I'm not giving you my name on there 'cause then you'll just stalk me or something. Look, I'm meeting a friend for lunch. I have to go ---"

More chatter on the other end.

"NO. Goodb--- GOODBYE." Flipping the switch on the front, Aurelio supressed a growl, letting his eyes scan out over the patrons of the joint.

"Ah," he said mostly to himself, under the din. And slipping between people and beings here and there, he approached the counter where Gadell sat -- the man still looking as... snarky as ever. Stopping in front of the counter, Aurelio stared at him until he looked up.

"Aurelio!"

Gadell stood to greet his old friend, lips twisting in a smirk as he offered his hand. "You're looking as respectable as ever. What brings you back to Hapes?"

"Respectable...?" Aurelio let out a chuckle, reaching his own hand out to take Gadell's.

He was caught off guard by the casual question Gadell proposed after that, and pulling his old friend into a quick hug, Aurelio could feel himself sighing. "What brought me back to Hapes... well, I guess you could say there was some stuff I felt I needed to tie up here." With a shrug, he sat himself down in the seat beside Vessau, resting his arms across the counter. "And who could pass up an opportunity to see you and Tenten, hm?"

Gadell nodded at the waitress, who broght him another limeade. It was hot out, and cold drinks were good.

"If you're looking to see Tenna again, you'll have to stick around until she gets back. Our Beloved Queen Mother has run off with her Jedi boytoy and there's no telling when she'll be back," he said, smirking slightly. Palace gossip was always an entertaining way to pass the time.

"Jedi boytoy?" His face fell sarcastically. "I always thought she'd wait around for me."

Waving his finger around at no one in particular brought a fine, young waitress over and Aurelio wondered what she would look like as a dancer at one of his clubs. When she asked him what he wanted to drink for a second time, Aurelio snapped out of a trance and smiled politely. "Can I just get a caf?" When the waitress nodded, Aurelio bowed his head and then turned back to Gadell.

"What excuse is the Hapan Council using this time for her absence?" He smirked. "Business treaty?"

"Something like that." He waved his hand around. He should know. He really should know with his position and all. But he hadn't spoken with the Council since Tenel Ka and Jacen left. Just why had they left anyways...?

Shaking his head, Gadell's eyes lit up at a different thought. "Want to go see the Palace again? It's changed a bit since we snuck in as little brats."

"Yeah, since you work there now and all." Aurelio nodded, finishing up the drink he had just received in two gulps. "Only if we get to see the Gun of Command..."

That was one of his favorite things to stare in awe at when they were younger, they would run around outside in the square and pretend to have it sometimes back then.

Sometimes Aurelio missed the days when they were little. There was nothing to worry about, no cares, no nothing. Just living by the hour, what kind of trouble could they get into next. That kind of thing.

With a sigh, Aurelio stood and dropped a few credits on the counter, glancing to Gadell. "Come on then."

As they talked animatedly, strolling down the Hapan streets back towards the Fountain Palace, Gadell wondered exactly why Aurelio had come back. Stuff he felt he needed to tie up -- that had been his excuse.

Stepping up to one of the back doors, near the courtyards, Gadell stuck his hand out to Aurelio. "Wait here. Let me make sure there's no real guarding going on from here to the weapons room." He rolled his eyes a tad and waved his hand once more. "I don't want to bother with being questioned right now."

Aurelio stopped without a word and waited as Gadell slipped through the doors, hands clasped behind his back.

He sauntered down the hall, nodding to a handmaiden here and a stray guard there -- but there was no real threat, meaning Gadell could bring in his friend without hassle. Glancing into the weapons room, he clasped the doorframe with a hand and nodded, his mind's eye showing him that everything looked normal.

Wait.

A double take.

The Gun of Command.

It's... it's gone.

Bolting away from the weapons chamber, he headed back to the door he had entered to relay this information to Aurelio. Not like Aurelio would know what to do, or where the Gun of Command had gone... but Gadell had to tell someone who wouldn't slit his throat for this turn of events.

"Aurelio, the ---" He jumped back through the doors to the outside air.

"Aurelio?!" He yelled.

He was gone too.
