Tahiri researches, and ghost!Anakin and Lusa spy; Zonama Sekot to Ossus to who knows where

Tahiri closed down her holonet terminal and sat back to think.

There were so many things missing from her life-- the memories about what had happened on Hapes were the most worrying, but that "conversation" with Anakin over the HoloNet just now (he watches over me, is he watching now?) had stirred up feelings that she'd thought were dead... feeling that at the very least should have been worked though, lying dormant.

But oh, she was so confused about everything and Anakin had always made her feel safe and she knew where she stood with him.

Or had, until just a few minutes ago.

Do the dead love? Do they sing? Do they feel as we feel and can the dead miss the living?

Anakin's spirit was clearly still hanging around... much like Master Skywalker used to speak of Obi-Wan's spirit back during the Galactic Civil War. (Though to be fair, he never mentioned the old hermit communicating via HoloNet.)

But Obi-Wan had left, finally become The Big One with the Force. Anakin hadn't done that yet... was there something he still needed to do? Had he not... moved on yet because of her?

Tahiri had heard rumors, once. About a lady named Callista_ that Master Skywalker knew almost twenty years ago, whose spirit had been trapped in a big ship. Her spirit had taken over another body, a scientist lady, and it was like Callista_ had been brought back from the dead.

She has begun to wonder if the same thing could be done for Anakin.

Although Tahiri had no way of knowing it, Anakin was not the only Force ghost who had not yet moved on. Unlike him, however, Lusa had not given in to the temptation to harass the living over the holonet. Being one with the Force could get boring at times, but she generally found it more entertaining to simply watch their friends. It could be entertaining, to say the least.

"Well, now you've just confused her." She commented, knowing Anakin would reply.

Pangs of regret overwhelmed Anakin as he watched a maelstrom of emotions dance fleetingly across Tahiri’s face—abashed that it was he who had crushed her former state of complacency and peace. Against all logic and reason, he had somehow defied the strong reservation that he created for himself, and bizarrely managed to make contact with the young woman. Perhaps his inhibitions were muddled by his selfishness…and he was selfish, he knew that. Selfish for breaking her all over again—though he had approached her with good intentions. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. He should’ve been spared of everything that was in remote likeness to a human weakness. Perhaps, he still retained them because…because he refused to move on.

He had to make sure.

He had to make sure that everyone was safe…and secure, before he left them. Obi-Wan didn’t have familial connections and living loves to stop him from passing on.

Sighing inwardly, Anakin was about to withdraw from Tahiri when a light voice intervened. It was Lusa.

“I suppose I did,” he mused, “Wish I could take things like that back sometimes.”

He remained stoic.

After a moment, Tahiri switched her holoterminal back on.

After all, those stories about the spirit-switching were just that-- stories. Rumors. Tales told to scare the younglings at night.

Right?

No harm in looking up the pure facts of it then, was there?

A quick search brought forth an obituary for Cray Mingla, brilliant scientist who sadly lost her life on the Eye of Palpatine etc. etc... links from the article led to stories on the Eye itself, but Tahiri scrolled past the facts and figured until a pair of names caught her attention.

"Jedi Master Luke Skywalker," she read aloud, "blah blah hero hero- oh."

There, on the list of survivors... was the name Callista_ Ming. But the article said nothing further about her- it seemed mainly focused on the 'bountiful compassion and stunning display of selfless heroism' of Master Skywalker.

Tahiri chewed her lip thoughtfully. It was getting rather late, and she had work to do in the fields tomorrow, getting ready for the harvest...

She would look for more about this Ming woman tomorrow.

Sighing, she switched the holoterminal back off and got into bed.

[ooc: and ya'll, Anakin and Lusa, feel free to chatter on and on and on as many times as you want between Tahiri's posts... we don't have to have a specific order.]

Lusa glanced from her companion to the Jedi girl, then back again, swishing her tail languidly as she did. She supposed she could not blame him for wanting to contact Tahiri. After all, she certainly knew how he felt. She would have done the same with Raynar a dozen times over, if she had not been afraid of what she would find if she did. Every time she reached out to him in the Force, she found a clouded, shadowy presence that was barely recognizable as the boy she had loved. If she had found a way to speak to him, to rescue him from the dark Jedi who had captured him, she would have done so without a moment's hesitation. Anakin was only doing the same, trying to make contact with the girl he loved.

"Sorry." She said with an apologetic smile. "That came out a little snippy. Who knows," She added with a shrug, sending a handful of curls sliding off her shoulder. "Hearing from you might even help her somehow."

Anakin’s weary complexion faded into one of pity as Lusa’s sunken eyes adopted a wistful look, her countenance softening considerably. Raynar’s presence had been distorted and blurred as of late, marred and indistinguishable from his former self—he was virtually unreachable…drifting, straddling the border between light and dark. Though he tended to lean further towards the latter. His gaze shifted towards Tahiri—sleeping peacefully, and took comfort in the fact that she had not changed so much…but perhaps it did not bode so well for her as it did for him. Anakin was selfishly clinging to the last vestiges of Tahiri—as stubborn in death as he was in life. Of course, she was prepared to let go of him…she already had, it seemed, until he interrupted the flow of things earlier. It was now the matter of whether or not he could.

Squaring his shoulders, Anakin was resolute. He had to. There was no use grappling with things that weren’t meant to be touched…no use rekindling something that, essentially, was already gone. He couldn’t linger forever.

“I think hearing from me actually steeled her against the idea of letting me go,” Anakin remarked with a bemused smile before wincing inwardly.

“You know Tahiri…once she’s that determined, she won’t stop till she gets her way,” he commented fondly with a lopsided grin, oblivious of the dark undertones of his words.

Lusa grinned, letting out a light laugh at his second comment. "Well, that's certainly true!" She agreed with amusement. "Then again, you can be just as bad as her, sometimes." She informed him, mock irritation in her voice.

Her expression grew more serious as she considered what else he had said. They had both lingered here in the twilight haze between life and death for far too long, she knew, but neither could bring themselves to let go. They made excuses, saying they wanted to watch over their friends and families, to make sure everything was alright, but in their hearts they both knew the truth; neither one of them wanted to move on while the one they loved still lived. This half-life was an easy price to pay in exchange for the chance to be near them. Even in her case, where she could barely sense Raynar, much less find him, this small connection was better than nothing at all.

"What do you think she's going to do, now that she knows you're still here?" She asked softly, watching the sleeping girl curiously.

“Nothing kriffing stupid, I hope,” he admitted, brow furrowing as he regarded Tahiri with a solemn gaze. He tousled his hair before settling his palm on the back of his neck in habitual pensiveness, a tick working in his jaw. “But then again…is there anything she wouldn’t attempt?”

As he judged the lightly masked suspiciousness in Lusa’s assessing look at his former love, Anakin gave a snort as he joked bitterly, “Not like she can raise the dead.”

There was a heavy pause as Anakin mulled over that single thought in his head—both hopeful and stern, eager and cautious.

“It would be wrong,” he lamented, “It would throw the Force out of balance.”

Though he secretly yearned to rejoin the living, he shunned the mere mention of it. Through the Force, his perception had widened—he had become more refined in knowledge, judicious and all-encompassing. To part with this would be against the will of the Force, against the natural procession of life; it was strictly prohibited. Jedi, the supposed ‘keepers’ of this delicate Force balance, should know better than to purposefully run around trying to destroy it.

The Sith used to draw upon a dark energy to preserve and mold spirits into physical, corporeal manifestations of themselves—they had worked against the flow. Look where it got them.

It was simply wrong and unnatural. To be brought back in such a way…would indubitably have its negative effects. Insanity, paranoia, amnesia…the possibilities were endless.

"Lets hope not!" Lusa agreed with a grin, twitching her tail in amusement. "Then again," She added with mild sarcasm, "Who ever heard of a Jedi doing anything stupid?"

His second comment caused her to pause as she considered it. She shuddered slightly at the idea of actually raising the dead. Certainly, there were times when she missed being alive, but to try and reverse that, to go against the will of the Force, the very nature of everything they had been taught as Jedi?

What's more, it sounded more than a little dark side to her. Considering Raynar's current state, she was understandably unnerved by this sort of thing. The idea of anyone she cared about meddling with dark powers horrified her.

Still, Tahiri knew the dangers of the dark side. Lusa felt sure she would not try anything, even for Anakin.

The next day was a busy one-- having grown up both as part of a nomadic desert society and in a civilization that was not dependant on agriculture to make a living, she was learning the hard way how difficult it was to pull your food from the ground. The fact that the Yuuzhan Vong ex-warriors still refused to work in the fields doing what they called "the Shamed Ones' duties" was no help at all.

In the end, she spent more time trying to convince the stubborn warriors that they would work together or starve alone than doing much hard labor herself.

Finally, once the sun had set and it was too dark to see their own hands, the Yuuzhan Vong had retired to their own damuteks. Once she was alone in her room, Tahiri turned again to her holoterminal.

It's late... I should probably go to bed. I'm tired, and tomorrow will be even worse...

The holoterminal sat there, a hunk of metal and plastic so out of place on this planet, in a Yuuzhan Vong dwelling... taunting her.

Reminding her of places built of stone and metal and all of the information in the galaxy that could be pulled to her fingertips with just a few keystrokes.

Information that could help her get Anakin back.

This time, instead of searching for information on the Eye of Palpatine she jumped straight to entries on the Ming woman. There was a glancing reference to the Old Jedi Order, a ship called Chu'unthor.

There was very little other public information. More queries about Old Republic Jedi, and how this Ming woman was related to them, ended with an apology and a suggestion that she instead try looking in the Great Library of the Jedi on Ossus.

The Great Library of the Jedi? I wonder how much of that still exists...

Well. If nothing else, Ossus would serve as a good starting point.
