1. Final Fantasy VI
Proven with science.

2. Chrono Cross
I seriously spent, like, half an hour watching the menu screen with the underwater scene. It was that amazing.

I have such a hard-on for Yasunori Mitsuda. :(

3. Persona 3
Easy breezy, street grunge rap R&B rock opera Japaneasy, i.e. made of stylish awesome and win and, hosheet, MASS DESTRUCTION~~~babybabybabybaby.

4. Suikoden 2; Suikogaiden
Because nothing says necessary war, and waiting along the city walls for a friend who never comes, and taking the plunge eyes wide like glorious orchestration, distinct cultural vibes a thousand times over, and vocals that just soar.

::COUGH COUGH KATAMARI DAMACY I AND II COUGH COUGH::

Does DDR count as a soundtrack?

Even if it did, there are better songs out there.

I find it most disturbing that a girl states she "has a hard-on"....

Do you remember your last look?
Well, you were smiling, and drowning
And I knew exactly what it took
to make you beg and pray

I have a grand total of one game I play, which is Harvest Moon for N64, and I only play it about once in a blue moon. It does not have what you would consider a soundtrack. :p

Don't you mean once in a...HARVEST MOON?

I'm sorry, I had to.

Zelda 64 (both of them) have awesome soundtracks. Saria's Forest song? Gerudo Valley theme? Hot stuff.

HOTTTTTT

<333333 This topic.

I adore video game music, because sometimes a sucktacular game can be saved from complete disgrace if it has a rocking sound. :D :D Crap, there are so many I love this is going to be a long list. :p

1) Castlevania Symphony of the Night

Ok, before the stones start rolling because I didn't name a Final Fantasy as teh numbar 1 bestest evah, I have converted people who don't listen to video game soundtracks/never have listened to one using this particular soundtrack. It owns, especially when you're playing the game; the music complements the visuals so wonderfully that it doesn't matter its a PS1 game, its still a gorgeous game when compared to the current generation of games.

ARRGHH! And I totally would have linked to http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/media.html as *THE* place to find Castlevania music but according to the note on the front page the music had to be taken down. :( But there are links to remixed versions which still might be of interest for anyone curious. :)

2) Silent Hill soundtracks -- ALL OF THEM

I can't really seperate one of the Silent Hill soundtracks out as the best of the bunch because they all rock and all carry over similar themes. I'm particularly fond of some specific songs, like the opening theme to "Silent Hill 2", "Room of Angel" from Silent Hill 4, and "Rain Of Brass Petals (Three Voices Edit)" from Silent Hill 3. Hmm... <3

Remixes on the "Silent Hill" themes can be found http://www.macabre-productions.com/brokennotes/.

3) Super Metroid (aka Metroid 3: Return of the Mother Brain)

I'm a total "Metroid" whore and I admit whole-heartedly. I lusted after this game like no other when it first came out and I didn't own a copy until many many years later and to this day it is one of my favorite games. I might even name it my *favorite* game but that's a close tie with "Chrono Trigger". Runner up in the "Metroid" series are the Gamecube soundtracks to "Metroid Prime" and "Metriod Prime 2: Echoes". <3333333

I especially *LOVE* the fan mix for Super Metroid called "Relics of the Chozo" which can be found for free at http://smproject.ocremix.org/. :D

4) Final Fantasy VI

Um, one of the best games ever. One of the best "Final Fantasy" soundtracks ever. I'm willing to admit a bit of nostalgia factor here. The runner up in the "Final Fantasy" series as far as soundtracks (and this will probably surprise people) is "Final Fantasy VIII" (it was the first game I ever played on the PSI and the opening theme blew me away so I have great nostalgia for this game/soundtrack as well).

5) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

For the Gamecube. One of the reasons besides the "Metroid" series that I even own a Gamecube. In fact, this is a game where I heard the soundtrack before I played the game, and decided I needed to own game just because of the soundtrack (though I was interested in it anyway since it was one of the better games available for the GameCube).

6) Legacy of Kain series

Again, I'm hard pressed to pick just one out of the bunch since they share similiar themes. So, yeah, These rock.

7) Biohazard: Outbreak (aka Resident Evil: Outbreak)

In the states its "Resident Evil"; in Japan its "Biohazard". Anyway, I love the soundtrack to "Outbreak" (for the PS2) even though I'm not very partial to the actual game itself. Runner up for best Resident Evil soundtrack is the extended "Resident Evil 2" soundtrack (the lengther edition had more tracks/better tracks than the standard edition).

8) Halo 2 volume 1

Here's an oddity for you all to ponder: I've never played a "Halo" game. NEVER. Yet I love the soundtrack for the second Halo game. You can thank the local library for having a copy that I could check out. Maybe one of these days I'll actually get around to playing the game, but for right now I'm happy to enjoy the music. :)

9) Parasite Eve series

I'm more partial to the first "Parasite Eve" soundtrack as a whole while there's really only a few particular songs I really like from the second game in the series. Still, I'm a fan of the games and I enjoy the music quite thoroughly.

10) Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross

My list wouldn't be complete without both of them. Nostalgia factors in for "Chrono Trigger" but I still think it has some of the best battle music for an RPG. The opening theme for "Chrono Cross"...

...

Yeah, it's good. At least it was for me.

There's more I could list, but that covers the main ones I can think of right now (Metal Gear Solid soundtracks get an honorary mention). :)

For any one curious about video game music, check out http://www.ocremix.org/. People take familiar themes from a video game song and remake/remix it to create very interesting sounds. Some aren't the greatest, but its free and the majority are very well done.
Whoa. I'm the Rodian Formerly Known As Chic Jovan Drark.
