I am to the Yuuzhan Vong what Karen Traviss is to Mandos. Expect hokeyness and revisionist history ahead.
Some of these "excerpts" are actually drabbles by none other than myself :snark

DISC ONE: The Bird on the Brim

Posted Image

1. Maaya Sakamoto - Air & Stars (Kuuki to Hoshi)
An undescribable world, a blue and clear light
Everything is delicate like glitter and
What is truly precious
Is unrecognized by anyone and
Is small if taken in the hand and
Is lost and then fades away

Air and stars, thought Mara Lambec from the solemn pilot’s seat. Below, the emerald crescent of a lush, unknown world glistened clear and pure, mirror-image of Yuuzhan’tar’s gleaming sky, visceral and alive eons ago. No beacon pinpoint of light could be seen against the dark night below, but visions of primordial life fluttered in her minds-eye like blaze arrays.

Inside the yorik-et, it grew colder and colder still. Her comrades surely dead; pilot and ship flotsam in an empty sea, slowly succumbing to the deathly cold. Yet, the sight below; to fall into that sky, what more glory was left to seek in death? A pure world, writhing turbulent sea-green, lay across the void.

She had waited a lifetime for it.

2.Björk - Earth Intruders
we are the earth intruders
we are the sharp shooters
flock of parashooters
necessary voodoo

there is turmoil out there
carnage! rambling!
what is to do but dig
dig bones out of earth

(forgive this tribe)...

Clatter! Clang! Crash! Rainforest soil gave way to stamping feet, cavalry on mounts as green as the jungle canopy, and armored tanks exhaling through cavernous bellies. Yun-Yuuzhan’s children, led to the smell of engine oil and metallic din and the wounds of living worlds, sought justice.

Pipes in fouled streams. Tear them out.

Wires where veins ought to have been. Tear them out.

Unnatural intervention, technology, what a slippery slope if all the world should suffer for the digressions of a few inventors! Best to nip it in the bud and let them all live as beasts of fallow land.

3. Apocalyptica - Faraway
And how foul it had become! A few generations was all it took for a empire such as theirs to entropy. The jewels of the capital cities ransacked, made into lifeless hulls was such a sight that the Yuuzhan Vong could not bear. Huddled in spaceship oases, turning their eyes and ears away from the many worlds still left to them; consolation prizes, said the elders. It was too painful to look back on a galaxy now torn down the center and motherland near the brink of death, sleep-still under a mantle of microbes and insects who would inherit the remnants.

4. Yuki Kajiura - To Nowhere
In the rolling boat we sit
Shivering with coldness
Come by an island
Come by a hillock
But it's just another place
We paddle on down to the raging sea...

"The signs were many. The worldships began to die, and there was much unrest. Caste fought caste and domain fought domain. It was a time of testing, and many thought the gods had abandoned us. Then Lord Shimrra had a vision of a new home, of a galaxy corrupted by heresy, of a cleansing."
-Uunu, Conquest

5.Björk - Bachelorette
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotized by the whirl....

I'm a path made of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me...

I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you break
You're the intruder's hand
I'm the branch that you break.

“A bouquet for the Warmaster,” announced Yun-Ne’shel, hiding her face coyly in her silken sleeve.
“What use would he of one?” replied the Commander, and he carved her heart.
A cowl of skin fell from his shoulders, revealing the Trickster’s bony visage. Yun-Harla smiled to herself, admiring her handiwork.
“Why did you kill the bride?” a voice from the foliage asked; a flower-bearing child, blue-eyed and velvet-skinned.
The Commander’s soldiers turned about nervously, searching for hidden holocam projectors.
“Don’t you know?"
"It’s Sekot’s Life Day.” the apparition smiled sadly, dissolving in the humid air like funerary ashes cast at sea.

6. E Nomine - Zorn (Wrath, the 12 Forbidden Tones)
The first tone swears to the wind
The second tone swears to the light
The third tone requires a child
The fourth tone, the ice breaks
The fifth tone inebriates the senses...

"Young master, it is my contention that the anger you felt was natural and useful. I caused deliberate harm---pain and anguish and suffering, over a period of weeks---to a young man for whom you accepted responsibility and for whom you felt a measure of love. Naturally, you felt anger. Naturally you wanted to break my thin little neck. It's absolutely natural, when you discover that a person has inflicted pain on a helpless victim, to feel angry with that person. It's equally as natural an emotion to feel compassion for the victim."
Vergere fell silent.

-Vergere, Destiny's Way

7. VNV Nation - Farthest Star
Embrace the void even closer still
Erase your doubts as you surrender everything
We possess the power
If this should fall apart
To mend divides, to change the world
The reach the farthest star.
If we should stay silent, if fear should win our hearts
Our light will have long dimished
Before it reaches the farthest star...

The Supreme Overlord's voice, amplified by the tympani in the mon duuls, echoed and reechoed over the plaza, and for a moment Nom Anor forgot about his aggravating itch.
"Yuuzhan Vong, conquerors, blessed of the gods!" Shimrra roared. "We have come to the turning point!"
-Destiny's Way

8. Yuki Kajiura - The World
The fields are filled with desires
All voices crying for freedom
But all in vain
They will fade away
There's only you
To answer you
Forever...

His body twitched to remember pain, Images of needles and knifelike claws floated through his mind. He remembered the shriek of severed
nerves, the grind of bone against bone, the way blood oozed slowly from a wound.
He shivered. Why had this happened? Why? He had never harmed anyone.
He opened his eyes at a sound, and there before him was the withered one, a sneer drawn across his crooked slash of a mouth.
"Your guests have arrived, Supreme One."
-Destiny's Way

9. Regina Spektor - On the Radio
And all the styrofoam
Began to melt away
We tried to find some worms
To aid in the decay
But none of them were home
Inside their catacombs
A million ancient bees
Begain to sting our knees
While we were on our knees
Praying that disease
Would leave the ones we loved
And never come again
On the radio
We heard November Rain...

“Ingo. We’ve been blessed as full warriors. We should…we could…”

The meatier of the two blinked his eyes. Already, the chanting of students had faded and a bloated feeling overcame the occupants of the convocation hall. Beside Ingo was Hadreh, his childhood companion throughout these trials and tribulations, splendid in a ceremonial black robe glittering with a galaxy motif, her bare scalp illuminated by the phosphorescent glow emanating from overhead lanterns.
For an eternal moment she paused, then turned to whisper in his ear the ending of that sentence. Both graduates flushed blue, thinking of a deceptively tranquil jungle clearing.

10. The Dresden Dolls - Modern Moonlight
We're going to take your cities one by one
Catch your cables, cut your cords
And spoil all your fun

We're gonna make your lite a living hell
'cause stripped of your equipment
You'll be forced to face yourselves

“I hate this city. I hate the locals, I hate their machines, and I hate their damned pretension. They’re actually proud they’ve cut down the trees and named quarters after them!” Hadreh cursed to floors below. A faint, intonated echo reverberated upon corroding durasteel.
“Good thing we’re going to see it demolished these next few ket,” replied Ingo, lathering liberal amounts of UV-protective lotion to his skin.

Atop a former office skyscraper their coralship perched, catching the full luster of Coruscant’s moons. The aptly-placed rooftop graveyard was truly magnificent after nightfall, as moonflowers bloomed profusely in this sweltering new summer.

11. Yuki Kajiura - Foreigners
"We danced together, the mascot & I. In unison we stamped and thumped and caroled. The Yuuzhan Vong, I saw, had forgotten to be angry.

They began to be amused. Some even swayed back and forth, if only slightly, to the tempo of our dance."
- Vergere, Destiny's Way

12. Regina Spektor - 20 Years of Snow
But I've got to get my out of here
This place is full of dirty old men
And the navigators with their mappy maps
And mouldy heads
And pissing on sugarcubes
While you stare at your books
And the words float out like holograms...

But the real excitement came from within her. Like the thick-trunked damutek, she was a seed, finally come to the right soil to sprout in...As a child, she'd often stood where the maw luur exhaled; until now, it was the only wind she had ever known.
----
Nen Yim nodded solemnly, but in her belly she was sick. Back to the worldships, to closed skies and rotting maw luur, to masters so mired in the old ways they would let the Yuuzhan Vong perish rather than contemplate change.
- Conquest

13. The Kaiser Chiefs - The Angry Mob
I can prove anything
Make you admit
Again and again
That I can prove anything
It's only 'cause you came here with your brothers too
If you came here alone you'd be dead
It's only 'cause you follow what the others do
It's no excuse to say you're easily lead

"This is huun," Mezhan Kwaad shouted to the crowd.
"It releases a nerve toxin sufficient to kill each and every one of you. Your deaths will not serve the Yuuzhan Vong. Commander Vootuh and these others are the real traitors. I am Mezhan Kwaad, and I answer only to Supreme Overlord Shimrra. I will take this ship, to better defend myself. I do not wish to harm my fellow Yuuzhan Vong."
-"Conquest"

14. VNV Nation - Chrome
As night descends upon the city
The lights are cold, the streets go by
And in the stories of the people
A million faces, a million lies
They'll never say they feel what you feel
The vacancy, the world you see
And in their faces their expressions
A million faces, a million lies

She stared at the alien warrior, half wishing they might've spoken woman to woman, instead of as predator and prey, captor and prisoner.
Mara knew what it felt like to slowly realize she'd been raised by the wrong side. The Yuuzhan Vong warrior stirred. Mara stepped closer.
The warrior's eyes opened. She recoiled from the machinery above her, working her face violently.
Mara stretched out a hand. "We don't want to harm you," she insisted. "I know you know Basic. I saw you at work in the Leafy Green. Let us help you. We'll send you back to your people, if -"
The prisoner interrupted, shrieking out a long, unintelligible speech, maybe to her gods. As she did, her body arched, fighting the bonds.
From the warrior's right hand, a claw stretched to four times its sessile length. It slashed the steelfab forearm bond as if it were flimsiplast.
Then with one arm freed, the warrior balled a fist.
"No!" Mara shouted.
Without hesitating, the warrior slashed her claw across her own throat. Black blood spurted.

15. HUMANWINE - Dim Allentown Cove (part 1)
"What do we have here?"
"A stowaway!"
Take that deadbeat sailor's body
Toss it overboard!
Laugh as the lazy stowaway
Swims to shore...

When he next awoke, the Voxyn handler crouched above him, lightly prodding the fallen wineglass. She wore a disdainful expression,
holding the composite Voyxn harness in one hand. His vision was blurred by a dull headache; the ale must have been drugged!
“Jeedai stowaway, have you not heard of the sins of drink?” she said sarcastically. Eyes focused to read the letters printed on her misappropriated synthweave shirt.
“TEXT ME WHEN YOU’RE READY TO-FURKEY,” it read, useless and meaningless to him.
He recalled her dragging him to a deep, circular pit with Voxyn hissing hungrily. Then he knew pain.

16. VNV Nation - Entropy
The thought that God has taken sides
On the path to breaking down
Disconnected but not alone
Scream to the tune of the background noise

The galaxy seemed to teeter, poised between light and darkness. Luke stood close to the center, counterweighing the dark invaders. But as their numbers increased, the balance tipped.
Uncle Luke, Jacen shouted. What should I do? Luke turned away from the advancing Yuuzhan Vong. Looking to Jacen with somber intensity,
he tossed his lightsaber. He opened a hand, stretched out his arm ... And missed. The Jedi weapon sailed past him.
As anger released him, fear took a tighter hold. Jacen flailed, leapt, tried stretching out with the Force. Luke's lightsaber sailed on, shrinking and dimming with distance. Now the galaxy tipped more quickly. A dark, deadly tempest gathered around the alien warriors. Disarmed, Luke stretched out both hands. First he, then his enemies, swelled to impossible sizes. Instead of human and alien figures, now Jacen saw light and darkness as entirely separate forces. The galaxy seemed poised to plunge toward evil, but Jacen couldn't help staring at the fearful light, spellbound, burning his retinas.
A voice like Luke's, but deeper, shook the heavens.
Jacen, it boomed. Stand firm. The horizon tilted farther.
- Balance Point

17. 300 OST - To Victory
Tsavong Lah sat back in his chair and ordered another capital ship to its death. "Prepare the oggzil," he said, and as one of his subalterns
attached the grasping appendages of the creature to one of the villips used for communication, Tsavong Lah detached himself from the cognition throne and lumbered from the dais.
He wanted to deliver this particular message himself.
Knowing that the oggzil was broadcasting his words and his image on New Republic frequencies, he said in his crude Basic,
"This is Warmaster Tsavong Lah. We are having a Jeedai hunt on Ebaq Nine! Although anyone else coming near will be destroyed, all Jeedai are welcome to participate!"

DISC TWO: A Path Made of Cinders

Posted Image

1.Apocalytpica - Life Burns!
A man dies like a butterfly
Life burns from the touch of the reaper
All things must pass
One love is a crooked lie
The world lies in the hands of evil
And we pray it would last.

Through the eyes of the war coordinator, Prefect Da'Gara watched another coralskipper explode into a shower of flashing bits.
"All glory to you, warrior," he mumbled reverently, the appropriate farewell to one killed gloriously in battle.
- Vector Prime

2.Yuki Kajiura - Requiem for the Evil
"Now, Leia Organa Solo," he said, "you, too, will speak to the gods."
The black-robed priestess raised both arms. Her attendants swept out their red-limbed crustaceans. The creatures' long legs locked in an extended position, joined to the bodies by tendons that now stretched taut, like translucent harp strings.
The third attendant flicked her huge drum in a slow, inexorable beat. The other two raised clawless hands and plucked their creatures' taut tendons. An eerie, atonal music filled the room.
- Balance Point

3.Regina Spektor - Buildings
And her conscience would issue yet another last warning, saying;
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
Oh they build buildings
So tall these days

"No you won't," she said. Yuuzhan Vong can't kill me. Noghri can't. Jedi can't. You're all beneath me. There's only one thing in the universe that can kill Viqi Shesh."
She turned and stepped out through the shattered viewport.
----
"How about that," Mara said. "I get my wish."
- Rebel Stand

4.Helium Vola - Omnis Mundi Creatura
Every creature on earth
resembles a book and a picture,
like looking in a mirror,
Our life, our death
our position in life, our destiny,
faithful symbol.
Death ends life, sorrow ends laughter
darkness ends daylight, high tide covers the seaport,
morning ends evening.
Our first assumption is tribulation,
our second is sorrow,
and then death wins.

The creature ----the Voxyn , Alema guessed from what she had learned of the Yuuzhan Vong language----began to pad around the deck on eight bandy legs. Though it stood no higher than a human waist, it was more than four meters long, with a flattish head and an undulating body covered in black scales. A line of coarse sensory bristles ran down its spine, and a white barb protruded from its flickering whip of a tail. The beast circled the captain and his wary guards only once, then went off toward the rear of the docking bay.
----
The voxyn's snout turned toward her and opened half a meter. A deafening shriek filled her ears, then the fist of a powerful compression wave slammed her in the stomach. She suddenly felt dizzy and sick, and in the next second she was slumped against the escape pod, cradling her sister's dead body in her arms. She felt something warm trickling out of her ear and touched it with a fleshless finger; when she lowered her hand, the tip of the bone was red with blood.

5.Peter Gabriel - A Different Drum
Outside, Yuuzhan Vong drop troopers continued to swirl around Coruscant's aeries, trading fire with light artillery emplacements and slowly claiming control of the towertop strongholds. As the cannonfire dwindled, the blast boulders started to venture down again, melting stubborn pockets of resistance into naked skeletons of durasteel. Finally, the drop ships descended, landing whole brigades of reptoid slave-soldiers on captured rooftops. The Yuuzhan Vong might claim to be great warriors, but Borsk knew who would be doing the hard fighting down in the underlevels.
----
The detonation flash would have been visible from orbit even without the magnification of the Kratak 's great eye, but through the lens Tsavong Lah saw the white sphere of Borsk Fey'lya's death bomb flash into existence across a full kilometer. It hung there for many seconds, its heat melting the faces of the surrounding towers and shattering every yorik coral vessel within two hundred meters.
- Star by Star

6.Jeff Wayne - Red Weed
And the smell of decay was everywhere. They'd stumbled across numerous remains of Coruscant residents---some the obvious victims of violence, some whose deaths had no clear cause, most in advance stages of composition.
How much food had there been in these peoples' kitchens at the time of Coruscant's fall and utter demolition of its infrastructure? how much water would they have been able to find? On a world with no wilderness, no farmlands, no means of obtaining food other than now impossible import and machinery that was vulnerable to destruction by the enemy, it was very possible that a simple majority of the population of Coruscant was already dead, with the proportion growing every day.
-Rebel Stand

7.David Bowie - Nature Boy
There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far
Over land and sea
A little child,
But very wise was he.

Suddenly Vergere was on her feet, and her arms encircled Jacen's shoulders in a surprisingly warm hug. When she drew back, her eyes glistened--not with their customary mockery, but with tears.
"Jacen, I am so proud of you," she whispered. "This is the greatest moment of a teacher's life: when she is surpassed by her student."
Jacen found himself blinking back tears of his own.
"So is that what you are, finally? My teacher?"
"And your student, for the two are one."
He lowered his head. His chest ached with a hard, cold solidity that wouldn't let him meet her eyes.
"Hard lessons."
"It is a hard universe," she said from beside him. "No lesson is truly learned until it has been purchased with pain."
"Maybe you're right." Jacen sighed. "But there has to be an easier way."
She joined him at the port, and stared with him out into the space outside the universe.
"Perhaps there is," she said at long last. "Perhaps that is what you will have to teach me."

- Traitor

8.The Dresden Dolls - The Gardener
My little misbegotten
You're such a stubborn bud
If we can't make you open
we will take it out in blood"

Thank you for the warning
But I still see the sun
A little Global Warming
Never hurt no one!

"Tell me this, Jacen Solo: what distinguishes a flower from a weed?"
"Vergere---"
"This is not a riddle. What distinguishes a flower from a weed is only--and exactly---this: the choice of the gardener."
"I'm not a gardener," Jacen said,
"And these are not weeds!"
"Again, our difficulties may be linguistic. To me, a gardener is one who chooses what to cultivate, and what to uproot; who decides which lives must end so that the lives he cherishes may flourish." She lowered her head as though shy, or embarrassed, sighing; she opened her hand toward the headless shells of the clip beetles.
"Is that not what you have done?"
"Those are bugs, Vergere."
"So is a shadowmoth. Were the beetles less alive than the slave? Is not a life a life, whatever form it takes?"
- Traitor

9.Tori Amos - Devils and Gods
Devils & Gods, well that's an idea
But if we believe it's they who decide:
That's the ultimate detractor of crimes
Because Devils & Gods,
They are you & I.

"I swear it, by the gods," Nen Yim replied.
He nodded, then looked at her seriously.
"Your master, Mezhan Kwaad, is said to have claimed there were no gods."
- The Final Prophecy

10.Yuki Kajiura - In the Land of Twilight, Under the Moon
In the Land of Twilight Under the Moon
We dance for the idiots
Ring around the roses, jump to the moon!
We sing with the castanets
I will sing for the crescent moon
Dancing with the castanets
As the end will come so soon
In the land of twilight.

It was impossible to judge the planet's distance or true size, but it was twice as large as the shining orb it seemed intent on driving from the sky. And it suddenly struck Nom Anor that the rainbow bridge had vanished!
Clasping his hands on the balcony balustrade, he hauled himself to his feet. Across the quadrangle the facade of a structure collapsed, burying hundreds of Yuuzhan Vong under jagged chunks of yorik coral. Then a harsh and terrible wind blew in, uprooting trees and toppling statues. The wind filled the air with so much grit that the permacrete bones of many a New Republic building and spacescraper were laid bare.
- The Unifying Force

11.Scissor Sisters - It Can't Come Quickly Enough
We knew all the answers and we
Shouted them like anthems
Anxious and suspicious that God
Knew how much we cheated
There's no vindication of what we were meant to be
Sucking up to strangers throwing wishes to the sea.

"Each caste seeks to elevate itself over another, each domain competes with the others, inviduals betray and murder one another in a blind , groping desire for elevation. In the galactic depths, it nearly tore us apart. I hope when we had a real enemy to face, we could turn that aggression outward, and so we did, but now it comes to haunt us again. It has become more than a habit; it has become how we live."
"Aren't we taught that competition breeds for strength?" Nen Yim asked.
"Of course," Harrar answered. "But only to a point, if there is not also cooperation."
"And there is the lesson of Zonama Sekot," she said. "The lesson you and I both seem to agree our people must learn."
- The Final Prophecy

12.Emilie Autumn - Shallott
She went down to her little boat
And she broke the chains and began to float away
And as the blood froze in her veins she said
"Well then that explains a thing or two
'Cause I know I'm the cursed one
I know I'm meant to die
Everyone else can watch as their dreams untie
So why can't I."

For the first time in many, many months she was free of her guards, of her damutek. She did not fool herself that the freedom was real. If she did not emerge from her sanctum in a few hours, questions would be asked, and then a search would commence.
----
Nen Yim settled in the pilot's couch and placed the cgnition hood on her head.
Hoping once again that the inelegant mixture of Sekotan and Yuuzhan Vong technology wouldn't fail her, she willed the ship to fly.
----
Tahiri found Nen Yim in a small clearing. A trail of blood showed that she'd crawled a few meters before collapsing. She saw the shaper's head was a messy ruin. Her one remaining eye was still open, however, if unfocused. Her breath came in faint wheezes.
"No." Nen Yim's hand came up.
"Leave me here. Let me become a part of this."
"You are a part of this," she said.,
"So are you. And part of me. Don't forget." Nen Yim gasped and her body seized. "Wanted to tell you about Sekot. It's what..." But that was the last thing she said. Her mouth kept working for a time, but no words came out. A few moments later, her pulse was gone.

- The Final Prophecy

13. T.A.T.U - Kosmos
"Evidently, before my parent died, it dispatched the seed of the world that would come to be called Zonama Sekot, and the seed drifted to this galaxy, took root, and grew... For untold generations I lay dormant in Zonama while the Yuuzhan Vong plundered the home galaxy, and were forced at last to embark on the search for a new home, carried on the same currents that brought Zonama Sekot here.”
- Sekot, The Unifying Force

14.Yuki Kajiura - Open Your Heart
Open your heart
To eternal dimension
Open your heart
For love and affection
Open your heart
For every emotion
Open your heart
For tears and rejection
Come to the grace
Of heaven's eternal fantasy
Come to the grace
Of earthly devoted harmony

And yet a few of the warriors had undergone what amounted to conversion experiences, espousing to their humbled comrades that they could feel the gods in the sweet taste of Zonama's water, in the soil under their feet, on the wind, and inhabiting the giant boras.
To them, the living world was a paradise regained, and they had urged Luke to recount that to the Yuuzhan Vong elite, should he decide to agree to mediating the surrender, as the leaders of the Alliance wished.
- The Unifying Force

15.Loreena Mckennitt - The Mummer's Dance
Who will go down to those shady groves
And summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
In the springtime of the year

A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand

Five years it had been to the date, when news reverberated throughout the Galaxy that the war was at an end. Fresh green fronds swayed in the tranquil pond, obscuring tiny creatures that dwelt in its water. Sunset bloomed on Zonama Sekot, and the canopy blazed with tiny insects, tree trunks hung with fresh garlands. Gathered here was the entire settlement, celebrating a holy day despite the solemn date.
In a circle stood the shapers, disguised as species of their homeworld. But their homeworld was no longer Yuuzhan’tar. Face unadorned, the lead shaper smiled and held out a solitary sprout.
“Here.”

Thanks!

Last night I had a freaky Yuuzhan Vong dream where I ate a carpet with swatsikas on it because it was really lasagna. Then I fought with Tsavong Lah for an arm.

The NJO would be much different with hermaphrodic Yuuzhan Vong.
