No problem!

But they're not nearly as annoying as previous novels.

This was actually a fun book to read. A relief from some of the deeper stuff of late with LotF.
And it has the Rogues: Wes, Janson, Wedge, so it's funny. :D

As was indicated, this book (no surprise) is quite good.

Despite it's another Random Dark Jedi Dude That Somehow Slipped Through The Cracks type story, it's an interesting spin on that, and goes in directions that are unexpected, and different from the other SW books of that type.

The one thing I didn't dig about it was that characters were in it that were established beforehand, but not in the prior novels. I don't read the comics, or the other sources of stuff, so I always hate it when the authors bring in folks that have history, but that I don't know it. I realize that's on me since I'm apparently a Failure Fan, but it still bugs me.

The other thing that sort of bugs me is that every Star Wars author now feels compelled to import their own characters from earlier books into the story, no matter what. Just another pet peeve.

But...

With regard to the Mandos... I got the distinct impression that they were forced upon Stover to be included as opposed to a conscious decision on his part. The evidence which supports that:

1) They're hardly in it.
2) Their contributions are secondary to the main parts of the story.
3) When introduced to the story, Stover spends almost an entire page mocking them viciously. >:D Cathartic.

So, yeah, it's a good standalone story that is quite enjoyable, and has a much different feel than a lot of the recent books. It's a tad lighter, despite that some typically brutal Stover-style things happen. It has a good sense of humor throughout, and even seems to lob a few meta-jokes out there, especially at the ending.

It's also nice that it adds some layers to Luke's character, who typically isn't the most interesting or complex fellow.

Good read. I'd recommend it.

Now... why is it that after I'd sworn off SW books completely, they start publishing books that are interesting: Mindor, the TK Cousins, and now this *horror* book? Horror? Really? Sign me up for that one...

Every time I get out, they pull me right back in... bastards... *grumble*

Which characters do you mean, that you think weren't in previous novels?

Nick Rostu was in the first Coruscant Nights book, plus Shatterpoint (as I was reminded later of). And I think the Geptsun guy was, too.

The main villain: Cronal/Shadowspawn came from a series of comics or some such from eons ago, and then used in RPG sourcebooks and such. This appears to be his first appearance in an actual novel.

Fenn Shysa: primarily used in comics, with like one appearance in an actual novel, a Karen Traviss joint at that. Ick.

Just my own personal bugaboo.

Ahh. Yeah. I had wondered myself where Cronal came from. I had figured a comic.

Yeah, Cronal and Shysa were primarily from the crazy Marvel comics from the early 80s and some random 90s strip.

I really loved the book, though! My favorite line was on the very last page, I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about (cute ironic foreshadowing ftw!).

Even though there were several hundred Mandos, I didn't mind. Mostly because a) Han mocked them so well when they were first introduced, and b) Fenn Shysa is pretty awesome and hilarious and not stoic and moody and shiz like Fett.

The Rogues were awesome, too. And I enjoyed Lando's parts. And R2-D2's POV was...interesting to read.

All in all, a very good book!
