WHAT'DYOO DO TO YER LEG, STU?

Alright, so I'm reading this book again (it's my yearly-read-of-The-Long-Walk time, lol) and I figured since a lot of us have read this we could have a discussion thread for it because yes, it is that awesome. Hehe. Every time I read this book I find myself paying attention to the second tier Walkers more and more -- Harkness, Abraham, Parker, Scramm, etc. Cause you get so much info on Garraty and then you have McVries, Baker, Stebbins and to an extent Olson (even though we hear less about him than McVries or Baker) that you focus on them the most. But watching the others makes you really see how great King did when he wrote this book (lol sorry, BACHMAN!). They're aren't just names mentioned, they each have quirks and flaws and stuff too. This is one of many reasons why I really, really can't wait for Frank Darabont to turn this into a movie. :O! <3 SO DISCUSSIONS? XD |

I am the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries.

When this movie comes out, I'm going to be so beside myself. While I haven't read this book twenty-something times, more like six or seven, I feel the exact same way. I pay attention to something different each time. The thing that really gets me about this book is the fact that King makes every single one of these boys feel like a real person. My heart aches when one of them punches a ticket everytime. But on the same token, I find myself smiling at the little things. Baker flipping quarters with Abraham, Harkness and his notebook, Stebbins and his goddamn peanut butter and jelly sandwiches... I love the fact that I can read half the book in one sitting, get distracted by my surroundings, look up and be surprised not to find myself on the Walk with these boys. King immerses me into this world in a way that very few other authors have ever been able to do. |
