Alright, so if you were in charge of Star Wars, what would you do with it? In movies, books, etc. What would your universe be right now? And yes, this can be as serious or crackish as you want it to be. XD |

Bring back Jacen. Not just because I like him. I saw his fall and death as totally pointless and a cop-out to true writing and plot (sorry but the truth). Anakin's death was more needed, sort of a "we're serious about this shit" and it was war, someone close and stuff was going to die. It was powerful and still haunting all these years past. Jacen's death felt like a cop-out, they didn't know what else to do with him and forbid he just be happy and take Luke's place as the head of the Order. That would have secured tons of plots lines and books for them that would have kept people interested. I'm starting to get the feeling that the DR contract for the EU was a bad idea, for both DR and Lucasfilm. They don't seem to CARE about the series and act like any ideas or new-ness POST ROTJ is a waste of their time. Comics, prequel era stuff and video games are "where it's at". Those of us that have been reading post ROTJ stuff for YEARS now are getting the hard shaft and basically told that we're old news, not worth their time and money to develop interesting new stuff (Zekk's book anyone?) and to buzz off and leave them alone. Fanfiction isn't enough, although I like writing it. It's not cannon, most of it is crap and it's no fun to wade through hoards of "crap" to get to the "good". Star Wars was entrusted to DR and they're shatting all over it, in my opinion. |

More pilot books. And not just because I'm a pilot fan; I've got coherent reasons here. Fist of all, I've always been a little skeptical of all EU books to begin with because they always involve the same characters over and over again. While I like the Solos and Skywalkers, it starts to get hard to believe that these are the only people who would ever have adventures or save the galaxy. I get bored with them. The pilot books, on the other hand, always made me happy because really all you get is an occasional Han cameo and not much else. Wedge is the only movie character involved, and he's such a minor movie character he doesn't count. What's more you get at least 12 characters per book, and the line up tends to change subtly each time. You still get enough old faces to keep you interested, but plenty of new ones to keep things from getting stale and predictable. I've also always felt pilot books tend to be more emotional and gripping than most Jedi books because there's a much greater chance a character you like is going to die. I stress about Tycho and his brainwashing, I worry over Myn and his stupid dead squadron angst. They all also tend to have a sense of humor, particularly the Wraith books, which is a plus. But any book that can go from having me laughing over an Ewok joke to crying my eyeballs out over Phanan's death in about 15 pages is a well written book. I feel like they're closer to the movies I love, too. The original trilogy has dogfights every 5 minutes, and they've always got some wacky disguise oriented stunt going on. They also had a sense of humor about them, and I feel like these elements are far more present in the Rogue and Wraith books than things like the NJO or LotF. The books about the Jedi have gotten so busy being complicated and deep and philosophical that they've ended up just coming off as pretentious and obsessed with one-upping themselves to me. Basically the pilot books feel like the original trilogy, and recently the rest of the EU has started to feel like the prequels; one stupid disappointment after another. So if I were in charge we would have more pilots. People who weren't in the movie but who are still great characters, action, genuine emotions (Guys I still cry over Phanan. Every. Damn. Time.) and a general sense of fun that I think was the heart of Star Wars and that the EU has sadly misplaced. |

Agreed... more X-wing or fighter pilot books. Those were interesting enough without bringing in the "big three" as main characters. Also.... I would probably be selfish and bring back Mara, somehow. |

SEND THAT PILOT BOOK ESSAY TO DEL REY. I mean, if they really wanted some Jedi in them because they're paranoid about sales, stick Jaina back in Rogue Squadron and write that series (or hey, Twin Suns), or do a series about Kyp's Dozen, or some crazy alternate universe where Anakin Solo lived and started his own squad after the war. I'd read it. Actually, it would amuse me most to see a series about Blackmoon Squadron, just because their leader failed so hard in the EL books. ![]() But as well as joining Lusa's campaign, I would make a TV show in the style of The Clone Wars but with Wraith Squadron, or set during the NJO, or, or -- I just want to see CGI pilots and Solo brats. Mark Hamill could be Luke again! Srsly Lucasfilm people, do this. If you managed to make me care even a little bit about clones and Anakin and freakin' Ahsoka, just think how amazingly happy a post-RotJ show would make me. MAKING ME HAPPY IS THE IMPORTANT THING HERE. |
