So yea just post your favorite genre and say why. My favorite genre of games are pretty much most types of RPG. The reason I love RPGs so much is how long most of them are, seeing as how I have no life and is always trying to find something fun to take up my time. Another reason why I love RPGs is because I think they have better a better story and character development then some other genres do. |

I also like Japanese RPGs because of the aesthetics and storytelling factor, as well as for the reasons Dvv stated above. I'll play the occasional hack and slash, play the occasional FPS... but I also like MMOs for the social aspect. One particular example is Mabinogi because of the ways to spend downtime. |

My favorite would probably have to be RPG mostly because there's many genres intertwined with it, plus, Alundra is an adventure RPG anyways, it had a deep storyline to it, and gameplay that I believe could be better than Zelda itself, so yeah. (inb4Zeldaflamewar) |

My favorite goes towards RPGs/JRPGS. Pretty much the only reason that stands out is that I like trying to find out what secrets the developers hide within these games. Some of which, can be really beneficial. |

Poll added. I like SHMUPS because most of them are easy to pick up the controls (all you do is move and shoot while avoiding being shot down yourself). More recent SHMUPS from the mid-90's to about 2000 I like because of their challenge. I also like Real-time strategy games that involve resource and unit management. |

You know what, I really don't know. I like JPRGs, but FPS games are fine with me too, (tf2 is awesome) blah blah blah I like most of them. So I'll vote casino games. Because no one likes casino games, and I feel sorry for them for sucking so hard. also inb4 bob complains about JRPGs actually no, inb4 bob complains about not having JRPG and WRPG in seperate catagories in the poll |

good rpgs with a nice storyline are an all time favorite. FPS's are fun cause of the constant action, a good contrast to rpgs. beat em up is a fun game to play with yo family Edited by Typh, Jul 24 2010, 12:26 AM.

I love platformers and first person shooters. I voted for platformers though since that's what I grew up on and what I like more obviously. Also, anything having a good plot (: (generic Theused) |

I like RPGs but I rarely get to play them anymore. Platformers come in second and then after that I like a few puzzle and fighting games. |
I'll just have to...

Ever since I was a child my Dad played platformers with me. Haven't played one with him for a while but its still my favorite genre mostly for the memories Though now I'll give anything a fair shake, except Sport Games, unless they're wacky sports. |

To tell you the truth I've gone in phases when picking a favorite genre in video games. Currently it's Platformers/Adventure with latest Mario, Link and Metroid games having my utmost attention, with skill and a bit of luck can lead to an awesome experience. Before that it was JRPG's (which could make a comeback with Dragon Quest IX) in which I am a sucker for customisation and to an extent managing strength levels and such. |
|
And yes, I currently have a stock lighting ball as an avatar - live with it, I'm lazy. Skins WIP by VeteranPortal: Retro Luigi - Luigi sprited as he was in SMB2/SMB3, NES style. Complete as of V0.41, JUST have to upload it now and share with the world. Retro Link - Link sprited as he was in Zelda II, with powerups coming from as if Zelda II was like SMB3 . Completion - 70%, Normal, Boomerang, Bow and Cloud Link Complete. Classic and Deku Link Largely Complete, Bomb Link on Hold for now, Now it's down to Zero Link or Arbiter Link. Due to plain lack of energy and Dev plans to update Link this skin will be on Indefinate Hiatus. My sincere apologies to everyone anticipating this skin. ??? - TBA of commencement. Currently due to lack of time and motivation. Plus V0.5 is a ways off so I can't even get the sprite layout. Hint: It's from an old Compile Game back in the 80's yes, that's a vague hint. Since there's no option for action or straight-up adventure. I went with Platformer, Puzzle and RPG. Don't feel like coming up with a reason, I just do. |

I've always played platformers, mainly because I tend to stick to mainstream Nintendo games and they make great platformers. I also love Action-RPGs. Both the kind that are regulars games of one genre that have leveling up, more plot than usual, and specialization, and the kind that use a turn-based system but use Action Commands/Timed Hits. They intertwine strategy and action into the fighting without being forced to think at a fast pace while doing the action. He knows about timed hits! |
|
My topic of WIP is here! Yes, the first post is a gigantic Fawful impression. No, I don't plan to do any more posts in that crazy form of grammar. | |

I'm mostly into racing games, but not straight realistic sims. They need to have some feature like Mario Kart style gameplay or unusual track themes in order for them to hold my interest. Secondly I like the odd platformer such as LittleBigPlanet and both Super Mario Galaxies. I also don't mind FPSs, but I don't really bother with console versions because I find trying to control them with the joypad too awkward. |

No options for sandbox (GTAIV, Saints Row 2, inFamous) or third-person shooter (Syphon Filter, Uncharted, MGS4 if that counts), so I went with good ol' fashioned point-and-click, because I could rattle off a list of traditional adventure games I love. |

Fighting games! Oh yeah! I love the awesome character designs, the crazy flashy moves, the fast paced action, the 20 hit combos, the hadoukens and all that stuff. Among my favorites are BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom (Marvel vs SNK is good, too) and Dissidia (if you call that a fighting game). |
