Which path do you typical choose on Alignment based RPGs first?; Good? Evil? Neutral even?

evil path because that's the hardest path
You kidding? It's far easier! Collecting Adam in BioShock? Easier to strangle little girls to get it rather than save them. Got a mission in Fallout 3 that's going to require a lot of effort? I guarantee you it's easier to knife one of the people involved in the back than go to all the effort to do the mission properly. inFamous? You get Sith arc lightning attacks for being evil, whereas being a goody two-shoes only nets you electric grenades. Even in GTA it's easier to be evil, but it usually means that you miss out on something (often a double-cross).

I contend that being evil is easier because it means being more unethical and direct than being a nice guy.

However, I usually play depending on the game's theme. I didn't strangle little girls in BioShock and I wasn't a complete bastard in every Fallout 3 mission because even evil has to have standards.

I'm still lurking...

Good for the most part. The only time I ever do something considered "evil" is if the "good" outcome isn't much better or actually worse than the evil path. *coughcoughtenpennytowercoughcough*

I also value people's free will immensely - my choices are essentially tailored to what I feel would be best for the person in question.

It really depends on the type of environment/game for myself.

Usually I do choose good since you actually get rewarded for being good, however if you give me the option to steal things and be a cannibal (such as the case in Fallout 3) I'd be happy to take those opportunities and use them to my advantage.
