As you know from the topics from the old Reactor, we have the Chocobo planned as a mount in SMFR. The Chocobo will grant characters a faster maximum run speed and a permanent flutter/slow fall ability. Another vehicle in the works is the Metal Slug SV-001: ![]() The SV-001 grants characters three extra hits, a 360-degree machine gun, and a powerful cannon (it will have 3 in stock maximum, but the stock replenishes slowly and automatically). It also grants a super stomp ability (spin jump power), since the tank can jump. This vehicle will only be available in levels with a lot of tough enemies. Placing it in a level filled with Goomba-strength enemies will be overkill. The SV-001 cannot go in pipes and cannot enter doors. You cannot take it with you past the level in which it is found. So far, the machine gun has been coded, though the placement is still a work in progress: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The SV-001 even rotates when moving on a slope: ![]() SMFR will have at a maximum of 4 or 5 vehicles and mounts total (including Yoshi). I haven't thought about doing that yet. I initially made the tank behave the same for everyone. However, if we were to personalize it, maybe the cannon can shoot out a signature attack of the character driving the tank, such as: Mario: a giant fireball Peach: a giant veggie |

Oh, I was thinking of something a little simpler, like a little triangular flag on an antenna or something, but cannon shots sound cool. |

When you were still the MKF project head, you mentioned that the SV-001 would be in Military War Zone. Has that idea and the appearance of the Fusionist in that level been scrapped? |

Yeah, mounts and vehicles have been scrapped from MKF with the exception of simple ones (like the lakitu cloud and Rush jet) As for the Fusionist, he won't be appearing in Military Warzone. However... |

Would it be possible to have some optional level similar to a Switch Palace such that when you beat it, all Metal Slugs are replaced with Metal Slugs Type-R (Golden Metal Slugs)? As for another vehicle idea, how about the Eggwalker from Sonic Adventure 2? Slow and clunky, but has Hover Jets, a Vulcan Cannon (which turns into a Punch at close range) and multiple HP? (Maybe also a Laser Blaster, if that's not too much.) |

Why have they been scrapped? You have it working in Hello Engine, why not port it over to MKF? |

How do I put this... Quite frankly, there are quite a few issues with MKF and its high amount of crap, particularly crap that only occurs in one or two levels. Eventually things come to the point where developers just can't shove every single gameplay element into a game. That's how I see it, anyway. And working with a development environment that uses interpreted code doesn't help. |

MKF's plans no longer call for such vehicles. Even Yoshi was only going to be in one level. These vehicles are a main part of SMF and you can easily enjoy them there. Many bosses, stages and plans have been cut to fine tune MKF to where it is at the moment, and it will certainly continue to happen. |

1. I noticed that the Metal Slug's health reset when you entered a new area. Is that a bug or a feature? 2. Will there eventually be a recovery item (gas can)? 3. From the look of this video, the Vulcan Fix ability hasn't been implemented. Will it be? It's pretty nice. 4. LOL at "World 2-TANK". |

1. That should be fixed soon. 2. No health recovery items are planned. 3. Vulcan Fix is not planned, but a similar ability is unintentionally put in if you hold diagonally up and left/right while shooting. you can fix the vulcan to a specific direction while moving. 4. LOL I will upload an updated video showing the SV-001's abilities better in a while. |

[utube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obyKHix7o_4[/utube] This new version of the older video shows the SV-001's abilities better (including a semi-Vulcan Fix ability, which was inadvertently put in) and I got rid of the Halo part. There are a few minor visual quirks, but for the most part, the tank mount is complete and very playable. Special thanks to Gladiacloud and D-Turbokiller for the Rebel Bikers and the Grenade Tanks. |

Very promising! Very promising! On a side-note, the track that you put in this video is intense. That should probably be used in the game in a few places. |

Oh yeah, one last thing: Will the Metal Slug be able to "crouch"/"crawl"? Oh, and I guess I haven't explicitly said this yet, so . . . hooray! Awesome! Edited by TheomanZero, Aug 1 2010, 11:01 PM.

So far, SMFR has three mounts that are 100% certain. They have been planned extensively or have been already completed. YOSHI Yoshi is an all-purpose mount. He has the ability to eat enemies like in Super Mario World. He also has a couple of new abilities from New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario 64 DS. Yoshi can eat certain projectiles and spit them back as weapons (such as Hammer Bro Hammers). He can also eat certain explosive enemies and weapons and spit them back as a bomb attack. Pros: +Does not modify the physics of the character riding Yoshi. Characters can fly or float while riding Yoshi, provided they have the appropriate powerup. +Well-rounded offensive capabilities: eating, projectile spit-back, bomber attack. +Can carry items in his mouth. +Can reach items that are behind walls. Cons: -Yoshi is very easy to lose. If you get hit while riding Yoshi, he will run away at a fast speed. -The loss of the use of his tongue (such as carrying an item) severely hampers his effectiveness. METAL SLUG SV-001 This mount is an offensive beast. The SV-001 grants characters three extra hits, a 360-degree machine gun, and a powerful cannon (it will have 3 in stock maximum, but the stock replenishes slowly and automatically). The tank's cannon can clear away brick blocks. Pros: +Grants characters the ability to take up to three extra hits. +Superior offensive capabilities. Cons: -Extremely slow. The tank will have problems dealing with very fast enemies. -The tank is a large target, so it is easy to get hit. -The tank cannot swim. It sinks in water and is only capable of jumping underwater. -To balance the tank out in SMFR, any enemy attack from the side (even a Goomba) will hurt the tank. The tank can only hurt enemies when it stomps them. -The vulcan cannon takes some practice to use effectively. -The cannon charges slowly. -While the tank can jump, it cannot activate ? blocks from below. You must dismount from the tank in order to use ? blocks. -The tank cannot go in pipes. -The tank cannot enter doors. -You cannot take a tank with you past the level in which you find it. CHOCOBO This mount grants characters a big boost in speed. It also has a permanent flutter ability (as if having a Raccoon Leaf at all times). Its most notable ability is being able to detect the presence of hidden ? blocks. When the Chocobo is near a hidden ? Block, a ! mark will appear above its head. (Thanks WhiteRoseBrain for this idea) This mount will have the least offensive capabilities out of the three. An attack the Chocobo would have would be either a beak peck or a kick. I was just reminded of something: Why can't Yoshi walk on spikes in this game? He could do it in SMW, and you certainly can't wear Kuribo's Shoe while riding Yoshi (can you? I've never actually tried . . .). |

Yoshi is horribly overpowered in Super Mario World. If we give SMFR Yoshi the ability to walk on spikes as in SMW, on top of the NSMB Wii abilities he has in SMFR, that will make him overpowered here too. If you have Yoshi and you run into an area where you need Kuribo's Shoe, then ditch Yoshi. It's not as if Yoshi is a rare powerup in SMFR anyway. |
