Perhaps Bowser is NOT the final boss one the level?

The first phase shown on the pics is the Bowser battle, but what is behind the big gate?

It might not even be something Bowser put in, there might be something else inside that Bowser did not expect to break in?

As for the music theme, it's as yet undecided. But for the moment being, the castle theme from New Super Mario Bros Wii is used as a placeholder ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLt322XQpOo ).

This mountain is vast! Even when the enemy layout will be completed, bringing fancy Spartan Suits and Megaman Suits won't help you here. You'll have to dust off your old-school platforming reflexes to get through this stage.

They move, they spin, they fall, platforms can do many things! Make sure they don't carry you with them to the bottom of the screen as they plummet though.

Drill spikes and low ceilings. With enemies, this section might get tricky.

Conveyor belts too. Branching in the path here. The path above is cramped and claustrophobic making for some frantic fights while the bottom path has more space but is on a conveyor belt.

Timing is crucial. The platforms constantly move up and down and if you don't time it well, the platforms will cause your head to slam against the spikes in the ceiling. Ouch!

But what kind of place could this be? It's obviously highly-technological but neither Dr.Wily or Dr.Eggman are so fond of bio-engineering as to have such quantities of stasis cells to breed clones...

Look at this! Such vast amounts of stasis cells... Certainly more than enough to create an entire army of bio-engineered cloned creatures. Who could be doing this?

Whoever is behind this seems not to be your average mad scientist, considering the attention to detail with the laboratory and the neat little red carpet. Who's behind it all? Again, find out for yourself!


As you might have guessed, this is a WIP of Vast Ice Mountain. The actual layout is mostly completed but the stage has few/no enemies at the moment. When they're done, the stage will be updated.

you probably hear...er... READ this enough, but these stages just look like they are going to be a blast. Classic Mario/Classic Luigi will have a difficult time with Hell prominence, that's for sure.

speaking of Hell Promanence, here's a suggestion for a theme you MIGHT be able to use. I personally see it to fit a "World Boss" level for Mario's world.

Enemies won't be very helpful in this level. Their attacks, like yours, can damage the barrels. And when placed in close proximity, they cause chain reactions...

Pretty much.

Any contact more aggressive than walking into them or using them as platforms will cause the barrels to explode violently. This apply to both the player and the enemies ; enemy projectiles and attacks will also damage the barrels and cause them to explode. This even apply to the barrels themselves ; their explosions trigger the explosion of barrels close to the initial explosion, causing chain reactions.

This makes the barrels both extremely dangerous and extremely convenient.

Thanks. But in this case, I'll bring up the floating platform logic ; it's a gameplay element that is required to pull off the level design the way I want it, it doesn't impact the plot in any way, and a 'justification' would be impossible to implement.

Namely, adding ground underneath every single barrel would seriously break the stage.

Since the stage is a 'fun' stage (not plot-important) and is purely a challenge/gameplay-oriented level, I believe that this an element that is best left as is.

Nice, I see they dont blow all at once, I guess Riverroad made them so the damaging explosion happens a bit after some animation has happened, that works.

Btw could you manage to merge the other enemies or add new collision events for other enemy projectiles? Like the skeletons and hammer/boomerang bros. etc.

Not if you made it out of bombable blocks, or other objects that are destroyed when the barrels explode.

Also, lol, you kind of reversed the tiles I made for you- The light gray ones were supposed to be the background, the dark gray ones were supposed to be the floor and walls. Strangely enough it still looks mostly ok the way you have it.

Be careful not to use TOO many barrels. It is a neat idea, but if it is overdone could become stale.

If there is a part of the tileset that looks like a chain or rope, the barrels could hang from the ceiling with those. The setting would look more natural without having to compromise any space.
