For those who weren't on the old board (or don't remember it), around E3, a fake game list was posted on the E3 topic. One of the games on the list was something called "Super Mario Collection", which I thought would be awesome. However, E3 came and went and while Nintendo announced a whole bunch of great games, Super Mario Collection was nowhere to be found. Figuring it wasn't real, I sadly resigned myself to believing it wasn't meant to be... But I guess I was wrong. http://wii.ign.com/articles/111/1117773p1.html From what the article says, it's a Wii version of the popular Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, it'll cost only 2,500 yen (about $30), and it will release October 21 in Japan. In addition, it'll feature a bonus item called "Super Mario History 1985-2010", which includes a booklet and a soundtrack. I'm a bit excited again, as this sounds pretty cool. It seems to only focus on the Super Mario series though, which is a shame because the 30th anniversary of Mario himself is next year and I think having updated versions of the earlier games would have been a nice touch. Well, we can always hope, eh? So go ahead and discuss this game. Also, since we know it'll feature the original Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 (and maybe Super Mario World), what other games do you think Nintendo should include, if they decide to? |

I'll get it if it includes remakes of Super Mario Land 1 and 2, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island. I already bought SMB1, SMB2, and SMB3 for the NES; once again with Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES; and all three games are on the Wii Virtual Console. |

A shitload more if they're planning to sell me rehashed Super Mario games for 30 bucks. Some of us still own Super Nintendos. |

If the Super Mario Land games are on here then yes, I will be getting it. Otherwise, no. (Although I don't have a usable Super Mario Bros. copy either) I wish my SNES hadn't broke. |

I have all the All-Stars games already on my Wii virtual console but the Lost Levels, so I really don't think I'll be buying this unless they break out something else for it (like the Super Mario Land series). I could see them including Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island though, if they were going to include any other games into this pack. |

It wouldn't really make sense just to release a graphical update of Super Mario All Stars. What's the point of buying it except for maybe eye candy (which ain't worth $30 IMO)? Needs moar Super Mario Land and Yoshi's Island (I can pass with SM64 given that it had a DS remake). Seriously, Marine and Sky Pops in 3D!!! |

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=135318 So it's SMAS on a Disc, plus a booklet of Mario History and a Soundtrack of themes from SMB-SMG2 :fuuu: Hopefully the soundtrack will be worth the 30 bucks. |

I bought SMAS with my SNES, 2 controllers, DKC, Pocky & Rocky 2, and Street Fighter 2 for 20 dollars. They're really charging 30 for less content? |

Man, that really would be lame. You have a whole Wii disc you can work with and all you put on it is the exact same material you can fit on a SNES cartridge? That's a waste of space and really lazy on your part. You could have just, you know, released it on the Virtual Console and save the discs and boxes for something worthwhile! Back in the day, when this first came out, it WAS a collection. You got to own three NES games that would work on your new SNES, plus have killer 16-bit graphics. You also got a game that had NEVER been released in the U.S. until that cartridge. With Super Mario World (which you would have if you owned a SNES) and both Super Mario Lands (on the Game Boy, which you can play on your SNES with the Super Game Boy), that was pretty much the Super Mario series back in 1993. Fast forward to 2010 now. Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3, and Lost Levels are available on the Virtual Console (in their original NES version), as is Super Mario World. SMB1 and the Lost Levels were remade for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on Game Boy Color. SMB2, SMB3, SMW, and Yoshi's Island were remade for the Game Boy Advance (also Mario Bros., which is available on the Virtual Console as the NES port). The DS onward cannot play GBC games and the DSi onward cannot play Game Boy Advance games. Yoshi's Island and the Super Mario Land games are not available to play on the current gen consoles. In addition, the unique aspects of Deluxe and the Advance games are not accessible either. And there are quite a few oddities such as Doki Doki Panic, All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros. Special that I'm sure some people might wish to explore. Back to Super Mario All-Stars (the original 1993 release). Being an SNES game, it would be 800 points on the Virtual Console. Instead, you slap it on a disc, make a booklet and CD, and call it a day for 30 bucks? Unacceptable. Four important Mario series games are missing, you're disregarding the extra content that has been included over the years, and the oddities have been overlooked all together. That's not a collection, that's not even HALF of the whole series. you can't throw the fans a bone and give them actual decent content? Hell, you could have shoved Mario Bros. down our throats once more. I'd still be mad, but it'd be better than giving us NOTHING NEW whatsoever! Also, the four games you have are already available on the Virtual Console already. So, aside from the booklet and CD, what's the difference between this and what we already have? Better graphics. Think about that for a second. Nintendo, the company that says it's game play, not graphics, that matter, is releasing a collection of games that people can already get on your Wii where the only difference between them... is better graphics. ![]() All that being said, I really hope this isn't true, because it would be incredibly idiotic of Nintendo to do this. I would hope someone at Nintendo have common sense and realize that what worked back then won't work now. I guess we'll have to wait and see... |
