Bowser joins up with Mario and company after the events of World 1 as a powerhouse ally. Bowser will not be an always-available playable character like Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Peach. He will, however, be playable in a special type of level called the "Bowser Rampage Level". In this type of level, you play as Bowser against scores of very tough enemies. Major features: *At the end of a Bowser Rampage level, an item is awarded. The faster you can complete the Rampage level, the better the item awarded. *Bowser Rampage Levels can be replayed. *Bowser has his own HUD. *Bowser has HP so he can soak up damage, as well as MP so he can perform some special attacks. Bowser's moveset is as follows: *Flame Breath: Can be aimed up or down. Bowser cannot move while doing this attack. It consumes MP, so it cannot be done forever. *Koopa Klaw: A very powerful but slow melee attack that deals tremendous damage to large enemies. It also breaks through Brick Walls. It recharges Bowser's MP with each use. *Whirling Fortress: Renders Bowser immune to all projectiles (except explosive projectles) and barrels through enemies. It breaks brick walls. Can be performed at will on slopes only. Can be done as part of a Dash combo. *Dash: Allows Bowser to move more quickly for a short period of time, also increasing his long jump capabilities. It consumes MP. Only through a Dash can Bowser perform Whirling Fortress on flat ground. Bowser gets two items to help him in a Rampage Level: *Hot Drumstick: From Bowser's Inside Story, this refills Bowser's HP by 2, past the maximum of 6 to a overcharge of 8. *Max Syrup Jar: From the Mario & Luigi RPG series, this item completely refills Bowser's MP. As a huge fan of Mario and Luigi 3, seeing that Youtube video was a very exciting and unexpected moment. Will there be levels like this in all the worlds past World 1? |

At least one Bowser Rampage level is planned for each world past World 1. Without spoiling it, a certain Bowser Rampage level in World 2 will set the stage for the World Boss level of World 2... |

Looks like a lot of fun! It seems like Bowser isn't very good at avoiding attacks, but I guess that's why he has 6 HP. Is the Halo section part of another level that got put in for demonstration purposes? Also, does taking damage restore Bowser's MP? Edited by TheomanZero, Nov 3 2010, 02:17 AM.

Some nice work indeed, though I think it needs a bit of tweaking. It seems that your most common attack is the claw, which I was hoping would be a bit more interesting, but it's mostly just the same animation over and over, I was hoping at least for a bit of animation randomness. Still, it works fine, and I shouldn't be picky about that. Considering how it'll get harder here from now on, how about giving Bowser a few more interesting powers when he finishes a level? In no specific order, he could obtain: -Upgrading the claw attack up to 3 times -An extremely powerful claw attack that consumes half his MP, might have a cooldown time as well. -Making the shell have a chance of reflecting projectiles back to its shooter -Able to claw while dashing, will bump back Wario-style if it goes onto walls or huge enemies however -Regeneration consuming large amounts of MP? If not too overpowered. -Probably better ones I can't think of right now. Overall it'll be interesting to see how Bowser'll work out once I get my hands on him. Also, he has one hell of a tan

Seeing this has gotten me more excited for v0.5. So Bowser is to be defeated in World 1 before he's playable? Oh, I also love what you have of World 2's new map. Great! |

@D-Turbo We are keeping this system simple. The Koopa Klaw is powerful enough. It does not need combos or upgrades. The slowness of the attack is the whole purpose. Adding too many abilities will make this system too complicated and confusing. Four moves is enough for Bowser. I forgot to mention the elapsed time's purpose. Each Bowser Rampage Level awards an item at the end. The faster you complete it, the better the item you receive. |

This looks pretty nice, and I really look forward to playing these levels-I always enjoy games with multiple attacks. I hate to suggest things, but there was one thing I found a bit jarring: Bowser isn't animated while breathing fire. It's a bit nitpicky, but I feel like Bowser's flame breath moving in a different direction while his head stays still seems a bit...strange. Just a bit of a headbobbing animation while he breathes fire seems like it might be a bit nicer to look at. |

Also suggesting slowly rotating Bowser's head toward the direction the arrow key is pressed. It'd really make the animation look better IMO. |
