Problem is that IWBTG is heavily relies on other game's sprites but if there's any original content in it than it's no problem. My mind is on other indie games like Spelunky, Braid, You have to Burn the Rope, World of Goo, Bit. Trip, Mission in Snowdriftland, Knytt Stories, Aquaria and such, these are just examples, sure some would need custom sprites cause of the diferent look.

I don't think IWBTG has any original content other than the main character/final boss sprites and generic things like terrain, spikes, guns, bullets ect.

I got time is on my side!!!

To make it clear to those who were not around during the Suggestion Board era of the old MKFR, there are some suggestions that are unacceptable:
- Glitch, Meme or "Poop" themed stages
- Non gaming based stages
- Excessive Fanfiction stages
- Stages that require extreme new mechanics
- Stages that call for major plot changing
- Stages based on games that have absolutely no resources we can easily rip and use in MKF. Examples are 3D games, which REQUIRE custom 2D sprites in order for them to be represented. Don't have any resources or not willing to put forth the effort to make them? Don't expect a level based on that game to ever appear.

@Bloodgrey: You know, since we're talking so much about indie games involving caves, I think there could at least be one area in the medley level made entirely of elements from those.

I think the level could be a standalone cave.
Sure not every games would have a cave level, but dungeons, interiors and underground stuff counts too.

Why no Naruto level? Naruto is awesome, this would be a great addition to the project.
If you're serious, then you really should lurk a LOT more. Naruto didn't start out as a video game series; thus, it will not be represented in MKF.

You would have also failed to read the original post in its entirety, as it explicitly says "no Naruto levels or whatnot". How about you actually take time to read before posting stupid ideas like this?

That works. Incidentally, I also thought about the possibility of the whole level being a cave.

That said, do you think that it should have a boss and/or mini-boss? I'm aware that not all aformentioned indie games have bosses in them, but still.

Just take the two most popular bosses and make them the boss/miniboss.

If the question is about bosses I can't help but think about the most hilarious bossfight what was done by an indy game. And that is the unimaginably hard encounter with the Grinnin Colossus of You Have To Burn The Rope.

Staying on the same subject...Well, I suppose Balrog could do the trick, but then he'd need a reason to be there (after all, he has to obey whoever wears the devil crown). Like having gotten lost, or something. Hrm.

My bear is a cosmic horror.

I'm not so sure a level based on indie games would really be viable, let alone an entire medley of them. We'd have to get permission from all the different creators in order to use content from all of them.
Plus... I wanna be the guy?
Seriously?
You somehow want to try and take "content" from a game that has almost zero original content of its own? That's definitely a bit of a stretch.

I don't really know for sure though, so I'm not 100% saying that it's a no-go; but you might wanna keep your options open.

Also, this isn't a "vote" or anything, but I'd like to point out that a Portal level might be somewhat viable. The only custom thing you'd probably need would just be tiles and backgrounds- Supnitle or somebody already sprited the gun, I believe, and I've already got a spritesheet of the turrets that I made back when Manes originally tried to get this level off the ground. And unless you're planning like a GlaDos boss fight or something (which I feel would be unnecessary), there's not really much else I can think of that would need custom sprites.

For some reason I have a blog now, where I ramble on endlessly about MKF and other random things.

Lars: I mentioned this to Obreck and JS a bit last night, I think it would be better to reopen the level suggestions forum TEMPORALLY, so people can do GOOD and ELABORATED suggestions and contribute all the resources needed for the ideas, as well as explanations of what would the level exactly have. Then we can pick the best after a bunch of suggestions are done maybe, or do a poll after we close the forums again or something. Maybe in some months if this works and if we chose and actually make a level, it can be reopened again for a 2nd one or something. Also we need to be more clear about the rules and restrictions, but yeah it'd help, this topic is getting too cramped with random stuff and not really going anywhere, and getting confusing too, it'd be better to have individual discussions.

If people make bad suggestions we could just nuke the bad ideas and bury them into the endless and dark and evil void the landfill is.

I don't think it's that serious at all. But sure permission is fine, and if it's not gonna happen then I don't care.

Okay, since indie games is becoming a somewhat taboo subject, here's a different suggestion...

How about something based on one, or more of Treasure's 2-D platformers? As far as I know, none of that company's games have been homaged to in MKF yet.

Also, it helps that said games have distinct themes (Gunstar Heroes being sci-fi, Dynamite Heady being cartoony fantasy, etc).

Still we could give it a shot if we send out some mails to the developers, if they say no, or don't care to answer we can always look fo another game or just drop it.
But if I remember 8 days a fusion has no permission of Yahtzee cause he didn't care to answer, on the other hand the eversion guy did say a yes for the stage, if the guys credit him.

Treasure is very obscure, for example I never palyed their games and I don't really recognise them.

Perhaps, but they do have cult popularity among certain areas of fandom. Heck, they're even the ones that did Wario World.

But still, yeah, I do hope that the representation of other indie games gets accepted. Given the proof you've presented about Eversion already being referenced in MKF, I guess there's no need to worry.

I've heard of treasure and I don't know a single person that hasn't played Gunstar Heroes

Wonder why it doesn't have a level yet

Because no one is willing to actually make it, and because we only have like 5 devs working right now lol

And I've never played gunstar heroes ;p

But I've watched some videos, it looks fun.

Judging from the way things are going, I think we should resume discussion over this once there is less workload, level-wise. :/

FPS with DOUK and friends is a cool idea

UG said he was gonna tackle Shadow Moses iirc
Shadow Moses got nixed from MKF, but don't think my idea is abandoned. ;)

In terms of themes for a level, there are two cult-based series I really want to see get some love.

The first is Earthworm Jim, which would go in World 7: Sega-Earth/Mobius. The series was a cult-hit for the Sega, and was my favorite game for the system. The level would probably take place or be themed after one of the levels of the original game. If this were to happen, I could totally see Bob the Killer Goldfish, Psy-Crow, and Queen Slug-for-a-Butt attacking the player in a similar manner to their original appearances.

The second is Romancing SaGa, one of Square Enix's top-hitting series in Japan. The game featured deformed creatures and bosses for the player to fight (see a video of it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loVYBG_bCiI) and triumph over, and their designs were pretty brilliant. It could be a decently long castle in World 4, featuring common enemies of the Romancing Saga series, and because of this, it would put the skills of the player to the test before they take on Legion and his army. The boss could probably be Saurin (see video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXBlIsjvoG4).

There's also a Kirby-themed level that I think could fit well.

My next suggestion is NOVA, based off of the Kirby Super Star: Milky Way Wishes stage of the same name and taking place in World 8. The player would board a cloud, make their way through an auto-scrolling course filled with enemies from the same level (with no floor, so as to require navigation by cloud), get midway point, do battle with the Nova Cannons, get second midway point, escape Nova within a certain time margin (not autoscrolling, typical course fare using the cloud), do battle with Marx, end level.
