Oh, Mario, where have you gotten yourself this time?![]() I mean, this sort of hostile enviroment just isn't made for you! ![]() Just look at that door! It's not even closing properly! Someone must not be very good at door programming. ![]() And just look at all these shafts. This place is a goddamn maze. ![]() Zebes just is not a good place for a portly plumber like you, Mario. In all seriousness, I'm remaking 8-3, Zebes Exploration. It will have a labyrinth-esque design, making it an absolute behemoth of a level, and also will have space pirates, Metroids and a Kraid. The other space pirate jackasses may or may not be in. Who knows. Because not everyone in this game has a projectile, and because carrying Samus' severed arm around would be creepy, you progress in the level through exploration and copious usage of keys. That's really all there is to say about the level at this point. It's still very much a WIP, but I'll try and keep you guys in the know as I get some stuff done. Awesome news, thank you!! I love Metroid levels. A couple of questions: 1. Is this level remake expected to make it into the 0.5 release? 2. Will doors open and close they way they do in most metroid games, where the player has to hit the surrounding energy field in order for it to open? Edited by Frozsoul, Jun 1 2011, 09:08 AM.

1. Probably. That's really all I can say on that matter. 2. No, you have to go get keys. If you get the blue key, all blue doors open, if you get the red key, all red doors open etcetera. |

Good work, Finlander! ![]() Listen, there will be other areas with other tilesets in this level? You know, "Zebes" is supposed to be quite long. |

Thanks. Also, if you're looking for any new music suggestions, I would humbly recommend using bLiNd's awesome remix of the Brinstar theme, available for listening at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn-YqUQTwWE |

That's a yes, of course. You'll end up going through Brinstar's areas and then through Kraid's House, and probably a quick visit to Norfair. That's really as long as I'm willing to make it, because if Subcon Panic has taught me anything, really, really, REALLY long levels just aren't very fun after a while. This is a Mario-based platformer, after all, not an actual Metroid game. |

Well if you are so into levelmaking then there's a stage which needs a leveldesigner. Though I'm not sure if it's still gonna be a part of the game cause it's in developmment hell for a long time now. Edited by Bloodgrey, Jun 1 2011, 03:08 PM.

yeah but it was too short and to be honest its design could've been better, some areas with unfair enemy placing or no room to move; then when we went through the level lists to scrap a ton of levels we noticed we had like 4 Metroid ones, one of them was Kraid's Lair, and his lair is supposed to be in Zebes anyway so we decided to make Zebes Expedition a lot BIGGER to resemble the original Metroid designs more and stick Kraid in it and scrap some of the other planned levels |

OMFG DOUBLE POST SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE no wait this is important, I coded some epic Metroids for this level and improved those ugly turtles video: [utube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2NLjyXxJhQ[/utube] Metroids can't be killed by normal weapons or stomps and they are hungry, the only way to kill them is freezing them first with an ice rod (or the characters' ice weapons such as Proto Man's chill penguin one can freeze them too), and then stomping or shooting them. If they hit you they'll try to eat your LIFE ENERGY AND KILL YOU unless you mash your buttons like a maniac. OKAY HERE'S THE RESOURCE FILE, DOWNLOAD IT AND THEN THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO http://www.mediafire.com/?o070hvjkg5w6zg7 1- Open your source, and click the import resources button it's in the first menu. 2- It'll open a window, THIS IS IMPORTANT, make sure you check "Keep Original", do not overwrite stuff. Click OK and wait forever. 3- Then go to Objects/NewObjects/Del's Stuff/Metroid and open the Metroid object and do this: - Set its parent to "obj_gkill_hitpoint3", it is somewhere in objects/parents. You have to do this because when you merge stuff from other sources, GM is dumb and it doesn't save the parents and collision objects unless you merge them in the same pack for some reason. - Add a collision event with obj_mario and then paste this in a code window: Spoiler: click to toggle - Add a collision event with obj_parweapon and paste this: Spoiler: click to toggle 4- Open obj_icerod (same folder as metroid) and sets its parent to obj_firerod (it's in objects/guns/other). 5- Open obj_fireball_icerod and set its parent to obj_fireball_firerod (it's in objects/obreck/player objects) 6- open obj_ripperfrozen and set its parent to obj_solid. 7- open obj_ripper (objects/enemies/other/metroid) -open its Create Event code and replace it with this Spoiler: click to toggle -open its obj_parweapon collision event and replace its code with this Spoiler: click to toggle 8- Open obj_ripper_weak -replace its create event code with this Spoiler: click to toggle -replace its obj_parweapon code with this Spoiler: click to toggle THAT'S IT TEST IT, if you have any doubts tell me and I hope I didn't do anything wrong if it works then YOU LEVELED UP Edit: heh, forgot to make them less noisy; open the metroid and replace its alarm[6] code with this
oh and any new objects you make keep them in new folders like "new objects", don't mix them with the old ones or it's impossible to merge Edited by Del, Jun 1 2011, 10:32 PM.

it's hard to balance; every 6 seconds they charge directly at the player before flying around, perhaps that timer should be decreased |

But no artwork, so I have no intention to say that. Finney: There's a level called fever frenzy, which was based on Dr. Mario, weird_bananas was doing it but he lost all the progress he had, and it seem he's not into levelmaking anymore, although I'm not sure if the stage won't get cut with these conditions, so if Del or someone could share the devs oppinion on that it would be much appreciated. |

Very glad to hear this. Zebes expedition, while not a bad little stage. Was a short Mario-style stage that didn't feel at all like Metroid. I personally would love to see the Metroids for Metroid 2, but making a large laberynth and giving the gameplay a more Metroid feel is more then I had expected to see. Something I should mention. Fans of the Metroid series are infamous for thier love of sequence breaking. Enabling a few difficult, but not impossible ways to skip areas or play them out of order would be appreciated. -Not every character needs to be capable of each sequence break, if any, that you include.- |

I was actually talking about what it takes to get them off of you. They seem like they cause 3 hits before you can shake them off. Most characters would be dead by then. |

Looks good. How big is it going to be, anyway? Is it comparable to the size of the sunken ship area in Super Metroid, or is it larger/smaller? |

oh, if you mash the buttons fast enough you can get them off you before they hit you twice (but not before they take your sci-fi suit) I designed them so they take your scifi suit if they hit you, but characters with just 2 hitpoints like Arthur can survive as long as you push the buttons fast enough |

@sumgai: yeah maybe finlander can put some shortcuts, like, one tile gaps in the walls only Samus, Mario or Sonic could get through to find alternate routes, dunno @bloodgrey: fever frenzy was actually scrapped already, bananas doesn't even show up anymore or even visit the forums, and never showed any progress with it so idk. |
