Okay, miming could be tricky. Serious face, no ponytail... man? With... sword? A swordsman? Armand's face lit up. This could be someone new to fight; someone new to test his skills on. And possibly a chance to impress the lady, though she seemed to be disdaining of the other swordsman.

Before he could inquire further - or, at least, try to mime his questions - Bei spotted something interesting on one of the stalls and ran off. "Ah, ce qui maintenant?"

It turned out to be a small furry creature in a cage. Was that a red panda? Whatever it was, it was kinda cute. However, Armand got the feeling that if he poked his finger into the cage the way Bei had, he would get it bitten off.

The rather rotund man who owned the stall smiled down at them and gestured at the panda. "Êtes-vous intéressé par la créature, monsieur? Mademoiselle?"

Armand was immediately about to reply, 'non' until he looked at Bei's face. She seemed to be geniunely entranced by the little panda. This was probably not a good idea, but...

"Combien?"

Smelling an easy mark, the peddlar replied "Sept cents et cinquante."

"Vous escroc." Armand shook his head. "Cent."

"Six cents."

"Deux."

"Cinq cents et cinquante."

"Quatre cents et cinquante."

Since it looked like Armand was going to win anyway, the peddler aquiesed. "Vous avez une affaire, monsieur."

Armand reached into his pocket and handed him the money and the peddlar put the cage in the young man's hands. Up close, it really was cute. He turned to Bei and presented the animal to her. "Uh... pour vous."

...turn left... then go straight... turn left again... second right...

DAMNIT. This was a... uh, what was a discotheque? That was a valid question. That's what the sign said and that's... well, he went in there anyway, to be greeted by the sound of music and lots of people. And in the crowd, they were all Caucasian with the smattering of negroids. Not a single little Chinese girl in the mix at all. No Bei there, either. Damnit. People were just leading him all over the city, and that was the third person he'd asked to have given an actual answer for a change.

Slowly, Jan stepped out of the building, looking at the ground, then around at his surroundings and realised one thing. In his search, he'd forgotten one really, really, really important fact: he didn't know Marseilles at all. As in, he had no idea where he was. He was lost, and didn't even know where his Gundam was.

DAMNIT!

He sort of remembered how he got back to the last person. Close enough, he could find his way there if he ran. And run he did; while nobody could steal his Gundam, he still had a really low sense of security at that point because he didn't know how to get straight there.

First Bei, now his Mobile Fighter. This wasn't his day at all.

Ignoring the gibberish that was being exchanged between the two males, the female continued to play through the cage, the little animal reacting happily. It apparently wasn't being treated too kindly by this merchant. The warm colored animal stopped when it saw the broad merchant's hands reach for the cage, and Bei hadn't snapped out of her trance until she realized the cage was gone. Where, she'd wondered, until she saw it placed into her 'companion's palms. Looking at him with curiosity, she then saw him hold it out to her. The heat began to well in her face and her porcelain skin was soon dotted with a soft, red blush. Not yet reaching out for the cafe, she stepped back, just a few steps away from Armand.

"I'll show you the reason why you don't mistreat animals...."

Bei spoke lowly in Chinese, looking to the merchant with now malicious, jade orbs. Looking back to the cage and the innocent animal within, she nodded to it and it seemed to nod back, almost. Wow. This was creepy. Getting into a stance, she soon delivered a lightning fast kick to the side of the cage, sending it flying out of Armand's hands; cage door swinging open wildly. The creature fell out but soon found itself landing atop Bei's leg, scurrying up it before curling around her shoulders. As the cage began to fall due to Gravity's marvelous effects, she landed in a half turn, back facing Armand:

"CATCH!"

Her other leg took the initiative and the sound of her heel hitting the metal cage was almost ear-numbing. The cage was sent flying at the peddler, her eyes glowing angrily.

Thwack.

The cage hit the peddlar right in the chest and fired him backwards into the wall behind his stall. Armand stood there gaping and blinking for far too long, hands still stretched out where the cage had been. When he began to recover his senses, all he could say was, "Hein?"

The events of the last thirty seconds were replayed in his mind and he realised that it was the coolest thing he had seen in ages. An attractive girl using martial arts to punish a fat bastard for being cruel to animals? There was mothing in that sentence that was not awesome. Finally he remembered the cage was not in his hands any longer and he lowered them.

"Ouais… nous devrions aller," he muttered to himself, realising that that was technically assault just committed. Which was bad. And since both of them stood out more than a lttle...

"Allons-y!" he announced to Bei, pointing at them both and then at the other side of the market. A clear, 'let's get the fuck out of here!'

"Hate hate hate HATE France."

And only because you're lost, Jan. There are some hot women about, though, right?

"Shut up you stupid voice in my head argh damnit."

Indeed, Jan had to find his way back, and so far there wasn't much luck in the process. In fact, he was pretty sure he was getting more lost, a situation not helped by the mindset that was now screaming at him YOU'RE LOST YOU'RE LOST YOU'RE LOST AHAHAHAHA. Battles were fought in the mind and this one he was losing soundly. He didn't feel comfortable here. All this world travel was starting to get to him.

However, he did hear a really loud... crash. Somewhere off to his right. And Jan, being the regular dumb hero archetype that we all know and love, had no choice but to run in the direction of that sound. It sounded like a fair ways off, though, so he'd take a while to get there-- but he would. Eventually.

Little did he know that it was exactly where he wanted to be.

Blinking at Armand's sudden panic, she had no idea what the problem was. In Yunnan, it was normal for this stuff to happen but, she remembered...she's in a much more contemporary society now. Softly petting the red creature atop her shoulders, she ran in the direction he'd pointed to, rushing towards a nearby alleyway. The sprint was short-lived. Inside her mind it would have sounded like snapping, but it was the silent sound of her losing blood, and the wound gaping open. Kneeling down and covering her leg, she attempted to push the wound together, cringing with each little sting it gave her in response.

Looking to Armand whom would have caught up with her at this point, she hurriedly untied her sash from her hair, wrapping it tightly around the wound, barely managing to tie it so that she could continue on. The pain in her face was obvious, but being a fighter herself, she could bear the pain, if for a little while. For once, I wish I was on the damn ship...or at least somewhere comfortable... Little did she know, they were taking the one path she wouldn't want to....

Okay, this was just getting silly. Bei needed medical treatment for that leg and Armand needed to find out exactly what the fuck he had done to be punished with the weirdest situation of his life. Besides, he wanted to take a look at the Gundam that had arrived in Marseilles. He skidded to a halt beside her.

"Vous devez voir un docteur," he told her, motioning at her leg wound, "Un docteur! Comprenez-vous?"

Of course she didn't understand, she DIDN'T SPEAK FUCKING FRENCH YOU IDIOT. Armand let out a string of impressively filthy curses in exasperation and tried to mime someone bandaging up her leg.

So by some kind of divine providence, Jan had managed to find himself a right mess. While he was still clad in his black fighting suit, he looked a hilarious sight, and once he showed up in front of this sort of fat guy who was cowering and looked pretty well terrified he looked even weirder. There was a cage on the ground surrounded by some other cages, and Jan had an idea as to what happened-- something got loose.

"Do you speak English?"

"Yes, a little." His accent was stilted and jerky-- he wasn't lying about a little, at least.

"Okay, so what happened here?"

"Girl... girl kick cage at me."

Okay so so much for something getting loose - a girl physically kicking a metal cage at someone had Bei written all over it. That meant she was close! And that was just as good as finding his way back to his Mobile Fighter, because he'd been looking for her over God anyway. While he was a little concerned as to what happened here, the what and how could wait - no, priority was now on finding Bei.

Now if I were Bei, which way would I go...

Heaven forbid he was ever Bei, for one-- but he knew that he'd go... that way! Away from sight, down the maze of alleyways that he hadn't bothered to tread before. Somewhere down there was Bei and, without any further word of warning to the man, Jan took off. He had to find her.

Puffing up her cheeks to mimic an aggravated, chubby-cheeked child, she shook her head and continued onward, rounding corners a bit clumsily, using the wall as her support. She knew that at any rate, Jan would have heard the commotion, and that meant his presence was near by. The wound was aggravated enough that Bei wouldn't have to worry about it being any worse, that was, unless she somehow managed to get gangrene. That'd be wonderful!

"I've got to keep going... I can't give up so easily just because of my leg!"

Bei muttered to herself, continuing her trek through the labyrinth of alleyways that made up what she assumed was Downtown Marseilles. She could always be wrong, of course. Considering her lack of geographical knowledge.

Bloody Hell, this was one seriously stubborn young lady. Would Armand ever understand women? Most women: probably. This one: definitely not. The only thing he did know was that whoever she was trying to avoid, she was willing to further injure herself to stay away from him. What happened if he found them?

Armand let his hand stray to the hilt of his sword - no, that's not a euphemism - and grinned. Fighting time?

For now he would follow his strange new companion who didn't seem to know quite where she was going. He wasn't sure, but he thought they'd doubled back on themselves once. If this was Paris, he could navigate with his eyes closed. However these alleys were a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

She's so stubborn sometimes...

Jan decided that all this searching was getting impossible. How could he find her? He'd been looking for... what, a couple of hours now? He'd lost track of time, and the swordsman was getting rather fed up with it. After all, he was lost and confused, not to mention getting a little worried that Bei'd just managed to hurt someone. Then again, that wasn't worrying, that was normal for the Shuffles.

As he walked through the streets, he knew one thing. He had to channel his energies here. He had to actually do something that was very Shuffle-like. If he was in God Gundam, the pose he suddenly took would mirror that of its Hyper Mode activating - legs just wider than shoulder width, arms practically folded in front of him. And then, with a sky-piercing roar, he gave it his one last chance... he did, after all, want to find her quickly. Maybe something in her heart would have her return.

Do it.

"BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEI!"

Bei stopped in her tracks. The sound had come from fairly close by, and apparently, Bei had found the dead-end. Staring with wide-eyes to the silvery haired male before her, she began to step backwards slowly whilst he continued his hot-blooded roar. However, she had found herself bumping into Armand, who had been following behind her punctually. She winced at the slight impact, but then took to hiding behind him, pointing a finger towards the poised figure that had just screamed her name across Marseilles.

"...Him..."

She muttered in Chinese, a bit of sweat slipping from her brow. The pain was starting to get to her.

That was certainly loud. Eardrums would be bursting all round the city. From Bei's reaction, Armand could guess that this person was who she was running from. Silver hair, that was kind of odd... and a fighting suit. Bingo, Gundam pilot! Fuck yes. Epic fighting was imminent. Epic. Fighting.

"Hé, abruti." Armand took a step forward and put a hand on the hilt of his rapier. "Pourquoi chassez-vous la demoiselle?"

Well, there was Bei. And some guy he didn't know, who had a sword. Well, that was weird, and that was coming from the guy who normally had six or seven swords on his person at any one given time. Occasionally nine. But that was just Jan's insane quirk. All Gundam Fighters had quirks, right? Bei's was, and Jan would swear this up and down continents, that it was getting on his nerves by running off. She was a master of that art.

But first, Jan had to deal with that. He scratched the back of his head and spoke in his usual slightly Germanic accent.

"Hi, uh, sorry. I don't speak French. I hope to God you speak English, because I'm going insane trying to find... well, her, actually."

Jan was totally headscratching here.

Her fingers curled around the material covering Armand's shoulders, her eyes peeking out from over the bony joint to stare at Jan, her jade eyes narrowed and almost frightened staring at him. But at the same time, she was afraid that this man, whom she knew not much of except his name, would be in much more danger than herself. Though, Jan didn't pose any physical danger....just she hated being scolded.

The red panda that had been freed from the confines of some spoiled man's hands now climbed down from her significantly taller structure, and scurried over to the latex-covered figure. Sniffing at his foot, it then proceeded to curl up on his leg. Of course, that would look so innocent and cute, until the furry little creature dug it's teeth right through the material. /omnomnom

"N-No...!"

She muttered, trying to will the creature to stop despite the fact she did not know the language of the creature.

"Oh, anglais. Yes, I speak English," Armand replied, his accent good but still French-tinged.

It only finally occurred to him that he probably should have tried English on Bei. Almost everybody on Earth seemed to speak it these days and it was pretty much the dominant language for spacenoids. Bloody Americans spreading the language everywhere...

"I was asking you why you were chasing the young lady, Gundam pilot."

Eating through nanobots was not a particularly pleasant feeling, and Jan immediately looked down as soon as he felt the pierce of fangs into his leg. It was a distraction from what he opened his mouth to say, which was rightly convenient because he hissed at the little ankle-biter trying to get through his skin.

"Hey!" he said quickly, looking down and shaking his leg once. Then, all of a sudden, he realised - this was a red panda, and Bei loved those. She'd just bought a little baby red panda as a pet. She'd wanted one for so long, considering the way she had that little plush one...

...could he fault her?

He decided to ignore it. All of a sudden, talking to this man seemed like a very good idea. The fact he was called Gundam pilot immediately was not lost on Jan, but he said nothing. "She lives with me, as it were. We got separated," he explained. Best not to give him the full truth and make the Shuffles look like a buncha bumbling idiots. "You'll have to forgive Bei... she speaks Chinese, and she's got one of the best kicks on her I've ever seen."

Armand stifled a grin at the red panda trying to gnaw its way through the stranger's fighting suit. What a wonderful little creature it was.

He nodded as the stranger mentioned Bei's kicking ability. "Yes, I've seen her in action. Not that her target didn't deserve it, but vigilante justice against people who mistreat animals is generally frowned upon by the law in this country."

The Frenchman relaxed his grip on his rapier. The stranger didn't seem to pose a threat at the moment - at least, not unless the panda continued its assault on his leg.

"If the lady lives with you, as you say, why is she running from you?"

The furry little creature released it's grasp on Jan while he flailed his leg, using the momentum to land on all fours in front of Armand. Staggering to stand on it's back paws, it soon managed to and began to clap with it's front, but was thrown back down to it's normal four-foot walking procedure. Scurrying to Bei's side, she stepped out from the side and folded her arms across her chest. Puffing up her cheeks, she simply stared to Jan.

"What do you want, Jan...?"

Bending over and picking up the small creature, her eyes turned to the already poised Armand, using her unoccupied hand to open her palm at Jan, as if directing Armand to him. Not saying any words, but rather, expressing with her eyes, she told him: You must fight.
