Something to Live For... Something to Die For Hello everyone! I'm going to take a stab at discussing the bible and hopefully say something insightful. Plus, the judge said this counted as community service, so I couldn't pass up the idea when Arch approached me with it. Now lets get this thing rolling. Due to the recent developments of some Titanic film director claiming he has found the tomb of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I thought, what a great topic to begin with.. the resurrection of Jesus. And since no one has any questions.. I'm just going to jump into today's lesson. How do I know Jesus really rose from the dead? I'll admit it, I get mixed up sometimes. Well, a lot of times actually. I think I just have one of those brains that is similar to the Windows operating system. I freeze up, crash often, and probably have conflicting software running in the background. Examples from childhood: * I once stuck along with my food in the microwave, a metal fork, and watched in amazement as sparks soon filled my vision. * Another time I tried bending a nail sticking out of a board by stepping on it under the theory that my foot was invincible. * Oh, and I also got the idea that it would be cool to light up a chain link bicycle lock, so I stuck it in a lamp socket that fortunately for me was unplugged at the time. Sort of like my brain most of the time. But the one that takes the cake was my early theory about Jesus and the Resurrection. Two independent pieces of information fused into one coherent worldview that went something like this: Jesus died on the Cross, was put in the grave, and on the third day came out, and because He saw His shadow, there would be six more weeks of winter. Or something like that. Y'know, it's OK to be mixed up about some things like dryers and hoses and lawnmowers (oh my!). But...it's not OK to be mixed up about the most important event in history: the literal and physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why? Well, forget what I might say about it - check out what the Apostle Paul declared: If Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world. (I Corinthians 15:17-19) In three short verses, Paul perfectly explains why the resurrection of Christ is not just a part of Christianity, it IS Christianity. If the resurrection didn't happen, then you and I are trapped in a miserable sinful life until we die like dogs and get put in the cold ground. Nothing to live for, nothing to die for, nothing to hope for. A little worse than six more weeks of winter...wouldn't you say? So let's clear up the mix up. The resurrection happened. The stone was moved. The body is gone. He appeared to more than 500 people. The eyewitnesses wrote it down. The Roman guards peed their pants. (OK - made that last one up.) And, of course, the disciples formerly known as wimps became warriors for the good news of the gospel - which is the fact that since Jesus came back from the dead, He proved that He is God and the only way to heaven. Something on earth or beyond the earth caused every single disciple to transform from this: At that point, all the disciples deserted him (Jesus) and fled. (Matthew 26:56) To this: Martyrs Martyrs are people who die for their faith, and the disciples not only died, but check out these details: * Stephen was killed with stones. * James was beheaded. * Philip was crucified. * Matthew was slain with a sword. * James the brother of Jesus, had his brains dashed out with a club. * Matthias was killed with stones and then beheaded. * Andrew was crucified. * Mark was dragged to pieces by the people of Alexandria. * Peter was crucified upside down. * Paul was beheaded with a sword. * Jude was crucified. * Bartholomew was beaten then crucified. * Thomas was killed with a spear. * Luke was hanged. * Simon was crucified. * John was literally boiled in oil, but lived and was exiled and died on the island of Patmos. For some reason, the men who were afraid to go out in public for Christ ended up facing cruel and painful fates with the boldness and courage of a lion. What reason? Well, according to them, they gave their lives for the fact that Jesus really came back from the dead. Let's face it folks, most people don't sacrifice their lives at all, and no one lets himself/herself be killed for something he/she knows to be a lie. But the disciples knew that life without the resurrection is no life at all, so they all gave their lives to the fact that the Savior came back from the dead. And that doesn't sound very mixed up to me! Head: What you need to know about this truth In addition to the solid proof for the resurrection from the Bible, the changed lives of the disciples is a strong argument that Christ really came back from the dead. Heart: What you need to feel about this truth Motivated to serve Christ just like the disciples. They were so impacted by the fact that Jesus came back from the dead that they changed the world...you can to! Hands: What you need to do about this truth Bring up the subject of Christ coming back from the dead with your friends and discuss what this article talked about. |

Very good article Alpha....I agree, with the statement about the martyrs...its easy enough for those to go out and preach the word and try to bring followers to the Lord, but when faced with the difficult decision of life or death, how many would be able to face that?? That is a strong point in any arguement for the fact that they believed in what they were saying...even to face death for it?? SO from a factual standpoint this seems to prove it, but lets talk about another form of proof...people always ask me "How do you know that God is real, How do you know you are going to Heaven"...and things like that. Well my answer and the answer to this topic is - it's in my heart, I know it is true because the Holy Spirit leads us to know the truth! When we give our lives to Christ and follow Him, the Holy Spirit of God comes into our heart and fills that void we all have...all our lives before Christ, we try and fill this hole in our heart, this hole is in all of us, it is the spot that God always intended to fill, but since He gave us free will to choose our own path, we try and go about filling it with whatever we can, alcohol, drugs, sex...you name it, BUT only one thing will fill it and satisfy us - IS the peace of God & His love...we receive that through His Holy Spirit. When we were lost, we had blinders, scales over our eyes, and we followed our hearts to whatever would make us temporarily happy. But when we decide to follow Christ and search for the truth, the scales fall off and the Lord begins to tell us the truth...does he speak to us in our ears?? Has anyone heard his voice out loud?? NO!! He speaks to us through our hearts, where His Holy Spirit resides...thus the term, our bodies are temple, because they house the Holy Spirit of God, not these buildings we go to on sundays to worship and fellowship. WE are the CHURCH!! So His truth is revealed to us from His still silent voice in our hearts. OK, enough rambling, like I was saying...the proof is from the Lord himself, in our hearts. His truth is there and we know, it is hard for non-believers to understand this, since they are so busy trying to satisfy themselves instead of stopping and lletting the Lord do this. SO I know in my heart, thanks to the Lord reealing it to me, His truth, and that what is said in the bible is TRUE!! His Word id TRUE!! Lets hear it guys, what do you all think?? |

wow man thats real deep alpha you know i was reinspired recently i have taken a liking to a certain young lady she and her boyfriend always fought and stuff and so i assumed they would break up One day i decided to pray to God about the situation. I prayed that she would break up with her boyfriend. I know its kinda selfish but im pretty sure God would only answer this if it would make her life better. The next day i go to school and see her. She walks up to me and without saying anything just kinda hugs me and puts her head on my shoulder. I asked her what was wrong and it turns out that she and her boyfriend had broken up. That was this friday, and I'm waiting till tuesday to ask her out.(we dont have school on monday) the point of this is that I prayed and when she said those words, i immediatly thought of god and thanked him fun story aint it lol |

well cheetoh i find it hard to beleive that God would intentionally answer a prayer that would end up hurting people unless that the results afterward had happiness that outweighed the hurt. And if what u say is how it works, it will probably work out for the best, because they had been fighting for a month and all this drama and stuff way to make me feel guilty though :P |

Hey Kero... Use your best judgement on this one bro, but if she just broke up with her boy friend I don't know if she's quite ready to start dating again. I mean, I am sure things are very different in your situation, but I mean, IN my whole teenage dating situation I don't want any one approaching me saying things like i like you and since you are single again.... eh, i dunno. I would just talk to her for serious first, dont make it seem like its a spur of the moment thing. heck why would you take my advice anyways, I suck at relationships. Do what you think is right man, -MW |
