A Cup o' Joe for Joe OmniCom has it's own "Thanks" system, but how it works is different compared to most other message board services. Normally, if a user finds that a post is helpful, awesome, humorous, or appreciative, they will click a "Thanks" button located at the top or bottom of the post's body. This post would then be publically recognized by all other users as being "thanked" and a point is awarded to the author of said post. At OmniCom, we value the input that others give towards showcases and project concepts, and encourage our members to be constructive in their critiquing of others' contributions to our board. Thus, we have implemented our own Thanks system, but have altered it to simply thank the user directly, rather than use a traditional per post system. We're calling this method of appreciative patting-on-the-back the "Cup o' Joe" system. To award another user with a cup o' joe (coffee) and thank them for whatever reason, simply click the Posted Image button in their mini-profile. This function is also available in their full profile. Once the cup o' joe is awarded, their count will increase (unlike a traditional "reputation" system, you cannot subtract cups o' joe... they probably already drank it ;) ). You can only award one cup o' joe per user, per day. You will be notified with a message reminding you of this if you attempt to award them with more than one cup o' joe in less than a 24 hours. Another restriction is that you cannot award yourself with a cup o' joe. That would be just sad. -_- Once you click the Posted Image button a small text field will appear and you will be asked to input a reason. Something must be inserted in the field before the cup o' joe can be successfully awarded. This reason is publically recorded, as you can view a history of awards and reasons by clicking on the number beside the icon. If you wish for your reason to remain private, you can always insert a random character, or vague blurb, and PM them later. Technical Notes: Like other custom features of OmniCom, this system runs off of AJAX and JavaScript. You will need to ensure that your browser has JavaScript enabled in order to see the Cup o' Joe award system in user profiles and interact with it. The system works well in all modern browsers. If you prefer using Internet Explorer, we recommend you use IE8 or later. |
