She pushed the device away, her fingers moving to rub her eyes. She could feel herself growing weary, the images under the microscope appearing the same with each change of the preserved slides. She had strained her eyes in an attempt to notice what was different, but she could not seem to push herself past that threshold, to force herself to attempt to see something beyond the coloring of the stain that was used. Maybe she needed sleep, a simple concept that seemed to have eluded her more and more often as of late. She could feel the fatigue, could visualize the darkening circles under her eyes. She could almost imagine what her mother would say if she saw her, and they were words that she did not particularly want to hear. She knew that her mother was only looking out for her health, but there were times when Sasha just did not want to hear the words.

She glanced toward a watch off to the side of the microscope, the alarm echoing in the empty room. She had only one alarm that went off each day, and it was the only reason her mother had allowed her to be away from home. She rose to her feet, brushing back the locks of dark hair that had escaped her hair tie as she cleaned up her station and put the materials away before leaving the laboratory and heading down a series of corridors toward a large cafeteria. A quick pass through the line and snagging a table toward the back of the room, she pulled out the pill bottle and set it down on the tray, her eyes giving the small meal an uninterested glance before she pulled the bottle open and tapped out a single pill into the palm of her hand. Vitamins. That was what her physician called them. She had never been known to have a vitamin deficiency as a child, but she knew that it was likely that environmental changes and stress could have changed everything. She did not question him, not that she was ever truly given a chance to. Slipping the pill onto her tongue, she took a swallow of water before poking at the meal she had been given.

She took a deep breath, deep blue eyes watching as she moved a piece of food from one end of the plate to the other. She was supposed to meet her brother, a man she had not spoken to in some time due to his work. She was glad that she had at least one sibling that she was on decent terms with. Her brother had never truly sparked conflict within her, and his temperament always seemed different than her sister’s. It was something she appreciated, often getting enough ill treatment from the youngest of the three siblings. She wanted to be treated as normal, but she knew, she always knew, that she was not like the rest of them. Even as an adult, she lacked certain traits that would have classified her as a true Antarian. She heard herself give a small sigh. She could not think about that, not now, not when she felt she was making progress on the samples she had collected weeks before.

“Hey, Dominov, fancy seeing you here. I thought you would have stayed and given your bugs some company.” She glanced up, watching as a young researcher slid into the chair in front of her. She watched him in silence as he gave her a smug look, taking the apple off of her tray without her permission. She heard the distinct crunch as he took a bite, her lips pressing into a line. “What’s the matter? Got nothing to say? Not my fault you’re still bitter about that incident the other day. It was bound to happen, you know? Given someone like you.”

“Just leave me alone.” The man gave a chuckle, tossing the apple back onto her tray before he leaned closer, his brown hair slicked back.

“Got nothing to say. That’s what I thought.” She watched as he shook his head, the smirk still on his face. He grasped the bottle of pills she had sitting on the table next to her, shaking the bottle. “These supposed to boost performance? I can tell you want performance you should attempt to boost.”

Her reaction was instantaneous as she moved forward, her fingers digging into his hair before she slammed his head down onto the table, using what strength she had to keep him pinned down. She knew that her lack of sleep was affecting her more rational thought patterns as she dropped her tone of voice and grabbed the pill bottle out of his hand.

“You really shouldn’t do that. I would have thought pranks and teasing to be done and gone by the time you decided to become an adult.” She felt herself raise his head, only to slam it back down once more before letting him go. “At least I’m not some fucking coward who thinks that underhanded tactics would be worth attempting each and every day. I dare you to do it again and see what happens.”

Alec had spent much of his time perfecting his new designs, his hands moved quickly over the Antarian tablet device as he walked down the hall ways, everywhere he stepped people moved without him saying a word or ever looking up. He continued his calculations until he heard the crash from the mess hall. His eyes cut sharp as he looked back down at the tablet and walked through the door into the large room with quite a crowd. Walking up to one of the group and tapped him on the soldier lightly. "Make a hole." Is all he said as he handed the tablet to the other Antarian, it was like he had used magical powers to be honest, the instant those words left his lips the entire mess seemed to stiffen and move out of his way.

He walked forward and swiftly kicked the back of Sasha's legs then in one move grabbed her and the other Antarian by his throat as he looked at them both. "Doctor Dominov...your relieved of duty for the next fourty-eight hours and you...go to the infirmary and grow up, the people here are your family, thousands of people that would give their lives for you, including my dear sister. If you really think your that much smarter, intelligence is not just the ability to see math you insolent boy, it's also the ability to use that math. Much like she used to kick your ass. Dismissed!" With that it was like everyone dispersed, the Mess was damn near empty in a matter of seconds.

"Dr. Dominov, my office..." With that he grabbed the tablet from the other Antarian, though unlike his normal self he didn't continue his work...its when anyone could tell he was angry, if you saw the Colonel with a tablet and not doing research...it was very bad. He didn't even pay attention to see if she had followed, though being her much older brother and being the person that sign project checks gave him quite abit of sway over the civilian personnel.

Stepping into his office he threw the tablet down on his hologlass desk then sat in the chair, his office/lab was huge, atleast twice the size of any other on the base filled with experiments and chemicals. His time with the military had given him so many more resources than the civilians are allowed. "Sasha...what the fuck?"

“Threatening me? You really think threatening me is going to make me go away?”

Her lips had pressed together, but she was prevented from reacting as she felt the kick to the back of legs, throwing her off balance before fingers wrapped firmly around her throat. Her body stiffened in response before her eyes turned to glance toward the one who had pulled them apart. No emotion truly registered on her face as she saw her brother gazing toward her, his words reflecting the concealed anger she was certain was radiating from him. A brief glance toward the other man showed her the damage that had been done to his face, namely the bloodied and broken nose, and she knew without anyone having to say it, that she was in trouble. Her eyes did not meet those of her brother as he let her go, his command clear. Being called to his office only cemented the notion in her mind that she was in deep trouble.

She watched as he started leaving the cafeteria, which had quickly emptied after his command. She did not look back at the young man as she grabbed the pill bottle and placed it in her pocket before following her older brother out of the room in silence. She could already feel the sense of disappointment in herself and in the way she had acted crawling up the length of her spine as she moved through the corridors, avoiding eye contact. Being called to his office was never anything good, at least where she was concerned. It was not uncommon for her to find herself into some kind of trouble, but she had never physically assaulted another individual. How was she to explain her behavior? She could not say that it was due to the taunting he was giving her. No, she could anticipate her brother’s response to that. No, it was something else, but she could not exactly put her finger on it. Something that the young man had said had been enough to provoke her, and she had reacted inappropriately.

Stepping into his office, she closed the door behind her, her eyes watching as he through the tablet device down onto the top of his desk. She could feel the anger in his voice as he spoke, but she did not lift her eyes to meet his as her hands slid into the pockets of her slacks. She remained silent for several moments, struggling to find the words that she wanted to say to explain herself. She had to say something, anything, but she knew that nothing would ease the anger. She took a deep breath, slowly glancing toward him with large blue eyes, her lips pressed together.

“He had it coming, Alec.” Her voice was soft, almost inaudible, but she knew that he would hear her. “I couldn’t take it anymore. It’s been the same thing day after day, and all he gets is a slap on the wrist while I have to be punished. That’s not fair.” She had every intention of holding back the argument, but she felt that she had to explain something. “I’m not apologizing to him. He was the one asking for it.” Her eyes watched him closely. She could feel herself trying not to fidget as she waited for him to respond. “I like how you wait until now to finally act on something, but, of course, I’m the one on the receiving end of the anger.”

He listened to her with that cold disappointment in his eyes then shook his head. "Sasha...you have to stop this. One day those emotions you keep letting flood to the surface are going to get someone killed. We are not ment to openly display them, our emotions are strong but we control them!" He shook his head and put his hands over his face for a moment before he tapped the desk making a piece of paperwork come up then placed his thumb on one of the lines causing it to scan his fingerprint before he turned the file to her and tapped the line she was suppose to sign with her print. "I'm transfering you, its no longer safe to have you with the rest of them."

A smile moved over his lips as he looked at her, he knew her reaction would most likely be complete rage so before she could blow up on him he spoke. "Dr. Dominov, I here by order you to transfer to the Antarian Command Station for immediate...transfer of command. You are from the moment this paper his authorized promoted to the rank of Commander with all Republic systems and are given the respect and duty of commanding the thirty-fifth Phoenix Class exploration and research vessel." His smile got wider and he laughed abit and nodded.

He stood then moved to attention. "I hereby authorize this document under Republic of Seven government contract four-seven-eight. Until your contract is ended Sasha Dominov you are promoted to Commander of your Phoenix Class and all those that you choose to crew it. Voice authorization Colonel Doctor Alec Dominov." With those words the box for her thumbprint began to blink as the nametag on her labcoat changed to reflect her promotion.

He had recieved the orders but a few hours before, she had been voted in by the Antarian people for her ability to overcome all the disadvantages she had growing up and managing to keep up with the best even with her condition he was proud of her to say the least. "I nominated you after my command was assigned. The Antarian people find that everything you have overcome and accomplished even with your condition shows the true potential of the human will. Your determination in the face of adversity is one of the finest qualities in a great leader Sister...I can make it an order if you'd like...Commander Dominov."

She said nothing as he spoke, her eyes watching him before his attention returned to his desk. He had tapped a few places before scanning his fingerprint, tapping another section that asked for hers. She did not make a move to do anything as she glanced back toward him, the curiosity reflected in her eyes. She knew that something was happening, even if he had not yet said anything. Asking for her thumbprint was a good indication of that, and she could feel herself panicking inwardly. It was apparent that she had done something to warrant a change in her current position, and she could not help but feel nervous as he looked toward her. His next words caused her face to fall, and she was quick to say something to prevent a transfer from occurring.

“Please, don’t send me – "

Her words were cut short as he smiled. She felt taken aback as he continued to speak, almost as though she had not tried to interrupt him. Her heart was beating rapidly as she waited for. Something had happened, and he was not displaying the anger she had thought he had felt down in the cafeteria. No, there was something else about his behavior, something she had not seen before. She waited until he had stopped speaking before she took a deep breath. She could not believe what she had heard. She had actually been voted in to command a research vessel? By the very people who had always made her feel incompetent, unintelligent, and mentally and intellectually impaired? She could not believe that they would have felt in such a way, despite all of the hard work that she had put forth in her education to overcome her shortcomings.

“This is all some kind of joke, isn’t it?” But she knew that her brother’s smile was genuine. It was not often that she witnessed him smiling, especially when he was clearly as sober as he was. She could not help but to smile as she glanced down at the contract. She had never dreamed of having such an opportunity, especially after having run a laboratory for over a year. But there was something more that she could not believe, the fact that this promotion was due to her people, to those who had witnessed her troubles and who had seen her struggle to overcome her flaws in order to succeed. To finally receive such credit was something she would never have expected, especially not after the incident from just a few moments before. She ran her fingers under her eyes, brushing away the beads of moisture that were threatening to slide down her cheeks.

“I accept, Brother.” She gave him a smile, her blue eyes locking with his own as she read through the rest of the contract before placing her thumb down on the signature box so that it could be scanned. She moved without a second thought, her arms wrapping around him in a motion of thanks that she could not outwardly speak. He was much taller than herself, but that did not matter. She finally felt accepted within her own society. “Mother agrees with this, correct? She won’t interfere? I promise to make sure that I don’t skip a dose.”

When she hugged him he laughed abit and hugged her back, dispite her sometimes volatile temper she had overcome alot for what had happened. He felt that she should be told, but now was not the time, her emotions needed to be stable. "Mother does not have a say in it Sasha you are an adult. You are now responsible for the lives of your crew...you cannot live at the whim of another. I trust that you will continue your medication, we can't afford an unstable commander." He pulled her back and looked at her, she would lead one day, despite how it was done...she had the fire, the will to prove everyone wrong.

"I am...proud of your accomplishments. Despite what everyone says, you were not born wrong, you have the potential in you to do much greater things than meer intelligence can provide. Control your emotions, but do not do as we have...don't forget that you have them. They are what will give you the strength to do great things, not being born with logic isn't a curse, it's a gift that cannot be rivaled. I envy you." He nodded to her then turned and grabbed his tablet, that look of pride and happiness he had seemed to fade, it was rare for him to offer such a philosephy, science and logic was his life but in her case logic was the enemy.

Looked back to his pad he sent the file off to his superiors then looked back to her. "Despite your command you are still under the direct authority of the Research and Development division, report to the Command Station in orbit when your suspension is over and report for your command. Take time to pick your crew, I've assigned my best marines to your ship already. Also you need to name her." He went silent as he looked back to his tablet

After several moments his eyes moved back up and he looked at her questioningly. "Your dismissed Commander Dominov...and suspended, if you don't leave immediately ill have you removed. I have alot of work to do."
