The city was far bigger then any city Steely had ever seen before. She had no way of knowing for sure, but she could swear that both KBville and Brightopolis could fit into one quarter of this place. Not that she minded the vastness; she liked it, really. The great, sprawling metropolis was beautiful, with the glass panes and brightly painted buildings in some areas. There were also canals that ran through the city to transport water, and they reflected the city lights at night. Even the night was totally different; she could actually see the stars in the city. They were fainter then they were out in the middle of nowhere, but for how large the city was, there was way less light pollution then the big cities she was used to.

(If I didn't know any better, I'd think that I'd... iunno, moved onto somewhere better,) Steely thought, standing on the bridge and looking out over the canal.

Her full, real name was Katrina Cerberus, but through a series of events and unfortunate accidents, she eventually ended up with two separate people in one body; Kat and Steely. It's a long, long story. Everything about her seemed like a long story, from the sleeve tattoos of legendary pokemon covering her arms, to the feathered lightning tree scar on one arm visible under the ink, to the cane at her side and the way her legs made weird... mechanical noises when she walked. She ran her hand through her long blonde hair and sighed, (Not... completely better though, I guess.) It was hard not to think of what was missing, what she hadn't seen for months and months. Every time she saw someone absurdly tall in a crowd, she got excited for a second, but it was never him. It couldn't be; he was back in Opaddeka. Even then... she didn't know where he'd disappeared to in their own world.

She shook her head suddenly. (No, stop that. Don't get all weepy again, I'm tired of crying.) the second voice growled from the corner of her mind. Kat was far more aggressive and angry in general then Steely was, but seemed content for the most part to sit back and let Steely have control all of the time. Again... long story.

The both of them were glad the streets were pretty deserted right now... given how late it was, it wasn't surprising. At the moment, she just wanted to be left alone. Or at least more alone then she had been recently, since her two remaining friends were absolutely adamant about never letting her out of their sight.

(Hah, do you blame them, though?)

"I guess not," Steely murmured aloud, scratching the top of her head.

"Now where did she go...?" Malcom murmured to himself, searching the area he was in for any signs of the little pest that had managed to escape her enclosure. Kathleen was always quite the rambunctious one--probably due to the Zubat's odd mating cycles--and she was proving to be quite the difficult quarry. Not that it was Malcom's fault she had escaped, but he had been hot on her trail just a few moments ago, only to slip by the aide's sight, despite the thermal lens he carried with him, the scope practically glued to his eyes like a pair of binoculars. He looked too and fro, here and there, searching desperately for any sign of that Zubat.

Thankfully, it was during the night, when traffic in this particular section of the city was mostly dead. Other quarters of the city were bustling with activity, but around here, it was mostly quiet. Thank goodness--it would have been hard enough to track down the Zubat with the streets empty, nevermind if he had to worry about bumping into random people.

"Come on out, Kat!" Malcom cried out, looking around for the Pokemon with an almost determined air about him. Despite the professional look about him--a scientist's garb with a hideous green tie--he smelled of someone who had been drinking an unhealthy amount of coffee recently, more to stave off the effects of fatigue he felt during the long hours working for the Pokemon Professor. His glasses hung around his neck, their place apparently taken up by the thermal lens, the bulky device swinging around each time he turned--abruptly enough to knock into someone.

"Ah! S--sorry!" He declared, rubbing his eyes after the lens smacked into his face. "Looking for Kat--Can't seem to find her anywhere," he said out of panic, finally pulling up his spectacles to look up at whom he had shamefully bumped into.

"Hey you, ah... you don't look like you're from around here," he said, squinting towards the woman due to the change of light. Looking through his own eyes--rather than through the lens--made things really dark for him, but she definitely looked out of place, even alone out here on the bridge.

The pair of them had started to mentally plan out how the next day was going to go; they needed to get more supplies and head back to Direwolf Stronghold to continue rebuilding and fortifying the place as the winter approached. Kat was about to make a 'winter is coming' joke when they both abruptly turned their attention towards the nearby yelling. Especially given that Kat was hearing her own name.

(I don't recognize that voice, though.)

(Yeah, and it's not like anyone who knows us here would be looking for me specifically anyway,) they still squinted curiously around, half hidden in the shadows between the lights arcing over the bridge. The young man was upon them before they realized it, and she only had enough time to shift her weight and plant her cane down before he ran into them. Kat growled a little, but outwardly Steely only shifted a little to face him.

"Heh, it's fine dude, relax," she waved a hand dismissively, no harm done. She looked back at him just as curiously, but seemed to draw herself up out of her slouch and stand stronger with him squinting at her. Her bright blue eyes seemed to catch and reflect the light a little, like a pokemon's might, as she looked mostly at the lenses around his neck now. Some kind of scientist kid, it seemed like. Though kid was a relative term, he couldn't have been that much younger then her.

"What makes you say that?" Steely said quietly, tilting her head and leaning on her cane.

Malcom grimaced, looking up at the woman as she seemed to draw herself up to full height, causing the aide to shy back a little. "Well, I don't know a whole lot of people with--with, uh--with--" He said, looking for something more quantifiable than just a 'gut feeling' as an excuse for his statement, when he suddenly noticed the odd tattoos on her arms. He was quick to point them out, "with markings like those. I don't even recognize some of them," he said, though in the dark like this, he probably wouldn't be able to make out the drawing of a Caterpie apart from a Snorlax, much less know what the markings represented. And it was a true enough statement--he didn't know many that had markings like that, and all of them were... more or less out of their minds.

"I don't suppose you've seen a Zubat flying around here? Her name is Kat--Kathleen. And I fear she may be undergoing a menstrual cycle," he said, bringing the thermal lens back up to his face and looking around for a moment. When he could not find his quarry, he sighed and brought the lens back down again. "I work for Professor Hawthorn up at the lab, and it's very important I find that Pokemon--it's a personal pet of hers," he said sheepishly, embarrassed he let such an important subject slip through his fingers.

"...you've never seen anyone with tattoos?" came the quietly reply, a bit deeper and lower then the voice from a few seconds ago, and her eyes seemed just a touch darker. Fortunately, Malcom couldn't see that her expression had changed too, scowling and angry all of a suddenly. But as quickly as it came, it was completely gone, and Steely was looking at him with bright eyed curiosity. Especially when he explained his zubat problem.

"...menstrual cycle? Like-" she stopped before she said something silly, since it was a boy she was talking to. It made her want to ask her espeon awkward questions later, though she didn't figure Zelda would be too bothered by it. She waved her hand in a nevermind sort of way.

"I haven't seen her, no. I could help you find her, if you'd like," Steely looked around, though she couldn't see any better then he could. She tried to remember what pokemon she had on her, since she was in possession of an army of them. The most useful one she could think of was Ravage, her own crobat, but he wasn't one of the six that was with her. Then again... duh, her sunglasses had night vision.

Of course, it depended on if he even wanted her help.

"It's--Tattoos aren't weird or anything! I just don't see them often..." He said, being a little defensive at the moment. Did she growl at him? He didn't want to think about that--it was creepy enough to find someone out here in the middle of the night in the first place!

"W--Well, Kathleen is about this big," he said, holding his hands roughly eighteen inches apart, before he stopped with the explanation and pulled up a picture of the Zubat with his PokeBrace. "She has a particular hue of blue on her," he said, showing her the image. "I believe this is referred to as a 'shiny' strain of DNA with the Pokemon, resulting in a different hue of skin and fur color amongst Pokemon--very rare--and she has a particular thermal signature. Her body emits a higher band of heat than most Zubat--likely due to her menstrual cycle--which should let her stand out in the dark with the proper equipment. I can get another set of thermal lens for you if you'd like to help--any assistance would be very appreciated," he said, a little quickly at first but slowly decelerating his speech as he grew at least a little more comfortable with the woman's presence.

Of course, the entire time he explained the whole thing, his mind was abuzz with activity. Pleasedonteatme, Pleasedonteatme, Pleasedonteatme.

"It is also very important that we obtain any other Zubats she comes into contact with--just in case she, ah, decides to procreate and breed. Genetic documentation is incredibly important."

He was wavering and obviously nervous, but Steely could admire his determination to get this zubat back. She'd heard of Professor Hawthorn when they had first come here; hell, Steely had even met the king and the queen, which had ended up being a boon for all three of them. They wanted to make sure the outworlders were treated well... though Steely and Kat both knew it was more to appease them, since she had six legendary pokemon at her disposal. Better to make allies of them quickly then potential enemies.

But, either way, she smiled at Malcom as he explained... and explained. And explained. If nothing else, she was smiling and watching as he went on until he finished.

"I actually have a night vision... sort of a thing I can use," she reached into one of the cargo pockets of her pants, since she wasn't wearing her coat. It was November, yes, but they were sitting right on the equator, so it definitely wasn't cold. What she pulled out would likely complete boggle Malcom's mind. It looked like a pair of sunglasses, without frames, like something out of a movie or something. She tilted her head down and simply put them on the bridge of her nose, pinching them down to grip. When she looked back at him, they reflected whatever light was coming in from nearby.

"If we happen by a pokemon center, or somewhere I can access the computer, I could get my crobat to help us?"

However much having Ravage around would 'help', anyway.

She seemed patient enough, no more growling from her, which was an improvement. When she put on the sunglasses, he tilted his head inquisitively--perhaps she was off her rocker as well, considering how odd people were--at least, those that wore tattoos. But then, he saw the light reflecting off the lenses and was curious how something like that worked. Something so small and useful--he had never seen something with that level of tech so compact before!

"Of course, of course!" He said, holding up a finger, as-a-matter-of-fact. "There's a Pokemon Center just down this street, and most Pokemon Centers are open at all hours of the day. I did not realize you were a Pokemon Trainer! Interesting. You should stop by the Lab at some point so we can square you away with some gear," he said, a bright smile on his face before he led the way towards the Pokemon Center, his thermal lens binoculars firmly planted to his face again as he tried to keep a lookout.

"A Crobat would be ideal in Kathleen's situation--if she is feeling the desire to procreate, a dominant, male member of her species would be ideal for drawing her out of her hiding place. Why didn't I think of that before? You're brilliant," he said enthusiastically as he led the way to the Center. Soon enough, they got there, a smaller Center by comparison, but it was open nonetheless. "The computer inside should allow you to access your reserve Pokemon."

She tilted her head to look at him over her sunglasses at his abundance of enthusiasm. She thought it would have been obvious that she was a trainer, but then again she didn't have her balls on her belt right now.

(This guy is amusing. Can we keep him?)

"Pffft," Steely snorted, limping along behind Malcom. He'd likely realize quickly that she was easily just as weird as he thought she was; she limped pretty heavily, and it seemed to require a great effort to keep up, but the noise. There was suddenly a faint mechanical click-clack noise with every step or so, and some very soft whirring. "I actually already have all my trainer gear... I've been a trainer for eight years or so," she explained as they walked, looking around. She could see the occasional bird pokemon sleeping in its nest for the night, but no sign of the little bat.

When they stopped in front of the center, she pulled her shades off, leaning on her cane to put them back in her pocket for the moment. "I'm not that brilliant; Ravage may not listen to me, he's kind of a jerk. Guess it depends on how attractive this lady bat is," she shrugged, and limped through the sliding glass doors to go over to the PC and obtain said asshole bat.

The noise she made while walking was something he noticed. The limp, however, was something that took up most of his attention. He resisted commenting about it, more to not detract from the situation at hand, but he did feel a level of concern about her and her condition. As for the noise, maybe she just collected metal bits. Like bottle caps or coins. Something like that. Maybe her collection was incredibly extensive--either way, it was not something he was overly worried about. For right now, though, while he waited outside the center, he continued to look around, searching around for Kathleen.

Once the woman emerged from the Center, Malcom yelled at the top of his lungs in exclamation. He was pointing towards a particular tree nearby! "There she is!" He cried out, pulling out a catching net from his hip bag and started running in that direction, his binoculars bobbing up and down uncomfortably on his face. He held the net like some kind of crazed lunatic, running off towards the tree--only for the Zubat to smash into the face of the scientist and lay him out flat onto the ground with a groan, the Zubat, indeed, the one they were looking for. It seemed quite irritated at the aide's antics.

This wasn't the first time she'd been inside a pokemon center, but it was the first time she'd been in this one in particular. It was surprising how similar they were, even between separate universes. Always so clean and crisp. She checked her party while she was there... Zelda, Hurricane, and Theodore were back at the apartment they'd been given, sleeping. That left her with three open slots. The rest of her pokemon were back at Direwolf Stronghold, since her PC system was set up to leave them there. All except for... Helix, who was a dormant black rock in her pocket at all times. She didn't think to bring out the hulking legendary, considering she thought that would give the kid a heart attack, given that he was a native.

So she got the bat and had his pokeball in her hand when she headed back outside; it was ornate and luxurious black and gold/red trim, minimized until she hit the catch and expanded it. She was about to say something to Malcom when he yelled. The sudden loud noise made her wince a little, making her slow to follow where he was pointing at the little bat in the tree. "Dude!" she raised her hand to try and stop him, taking a step after him, but he was already gone.

(I'm serious, can we keep him?)

They winced as the scientist was put on the ground by the admittedly small pokemon. As much as Steely had offered her own crobat to help, she wanted to avoid it if she could. So, time to potentially freak out the lab lad even more, if the bat decided to talk to her. It was one of the most useful things Steely could do; understand pokemon speech.

"Hey little lady," she said sweetly up to the bat as she limped over, holding up her empty hand while she clutched Rav's pokeball and her cane in the other. "You know, you ought to come home before you get into trouble."

"Ugh..." Malcom uttered with a groggy voice. It was clear from his slight frame and paler skin that he was probably ill-used to most physical activity--not the least of which was getting smacked in the face at full force. Did Kathleen put on weight? The scientist tried to get up after the blow, shaking his head to clear the stars from his vision.

In retrospect, Kathleen seemed more suited to being handled by a female, landing upon the woman's open hand and looking up to her. Apparently, Kathleen was, indeed, trying to find a mate for procreation--but she had not found anyone suitable in the city yet. Apparently, few wild Zubats flew through this city with any regularity. Not to mention she was probably agoraphobic to a small degree--she did not seem to like the wide open spaces she often found herself in.

"Ugh... wow, normally she hates being handled," Malcom said as he stood up, looking over at the woman with the cane. "She seems to take a liking to you though--which is rare."

Fortunately, Malcom didn't seem bothered that Steely had gone for the bat instead of making sure he was alright. She'd gambled that would be the case, given how focused he was on catching her. With the bat in hand, now she glanced down at Malcom as he scraped himself off of the concrete.

"Pokemon seem to take a liking to me for some reason," she explained, pocketing Ravage's ball for now and tucking her cane under her arm so she could have both hands free. She kept the one cupped for Kathleen to sit in, and gently stroked the blind bat's head with the fingertips of her other hand. There had to be something to explain why the monsters liked her. She smiled down at the little bat, "Hey, if you come back to the lab with us, maybe you can meet my crobat. Who knows, you might like him."

There had to be something to study in that situation too, right? If nothing else, there was absolutely nothing wrong with getting your pokemon laid. It also seemed like the easiest and least-stressful way to get the bat to come back with them.

This seemed to please the Zubat greatly, the Pokemon flapping her wings eagerly and snuggling up to Steely's warm fingers.

"Hrm--Quite interesting! Well, I guess I wont need this," Malcom said, stuffing the net back into his pack with no small degree of difficulty in squeezing it back into a compact space, but once that was finished, he pointed towards one of the larger buildings in the distance. "The lab's that way, miss," he said cheerfully, apparently more than relieved to see that they had the troublesome Zubat under control and in tow. "And if she does take a liking to your Crobat, it would make for excellent research material," he said, as if the prospect of a Pokemon getting laid was somehow interesting to him.

Scientists. Super weird.

The walk towards the lab was a rather unassuming one, but Malcom had no problems in practically drowning his guest with random factoids about Zubats, their migrational and feeding habits, as well as their breeding cycles. If it wasn't all layered with scientific gibberish, it probably would have been rather interesting. Once again, he seemed oblivious to the metal noises coming from the woman beside him.

"A trainer for eight years, huh? You must be quite the veteran! I am curious, however... I don't think I've seen any Pokedex Reports from you before, though. Maybe someone else read them..." He said, thinking aloud. Someone like her seemed very well traveled and probably discovered much about the world around them.

The zubat appeared to be content with where she currently was resting in the trainer's palm. Steely hoped that she would stay that way on the walk back, since she needed her other hand to use her cane. She tucked her hand in close to her body, and that seemed to help; the bat snuggled up against her in a merry cocoon of wings. Plucking her cane out from under her arm, she limped along with Malcom, listening with a small amount of curiosity. In the back of her mind, she heard Kat groan and got the impression of her rolling her eyes. (Hey, you can't fault him for being passionate.)

(Good gravy, he talks a lot.)

Instead of responding, Steely realized that he'd directed a statement and a question directly at her, and after making sure that Kathleen was still there, she decided to answer, "You weren't wrong when you said I wasn't from around here. I just wanted to know how you could tell. I bet my pokedex hasn't been linked up to the systems here. I've seen over five hundred, I think, and caught around four hundred?" Really, she never looked at the thing much in the last year or so.

They reached the lab and Steely stopped, looking up at it, then back to him, "You know, dude, I don't think I ever got your name. I'm Steely."

"Over--wow, absolutely! If it's not too much trouble, we can link your PokeDex with our computers here at the lab," he said as he opened the door to the lab, leading to a reception area which was joined to the large atrium in the center of the building. "A pleasure, Miss Steely. My name's Malcom Tian, one of the Professor's aides. I work here," he said, with no shortage of pride and fatigue. It seemed he would need his regular dosage of caffeine before too long--or at least a decent night's rest after the night's excitement.

"We can also set you up with a PokeBrace," he said, gesturing to the one on his arm, "if you don't already have one. Once a PokeDex is linked to a PokeBrace, the 'Dex will send information packets to the 'Brace, which will transmit any new data you've collected with your 'Dex straight to our computers--typically whenever you enter a Pokemon Center or anything with a strong communications signal. Data collection is extremely important for our laboratory, as you can imagine," he explained before letting her get inside first.

"With so much data on your PokeDex, I'm sure your exploits would be critical and invaluable. There's so much about our world and the Pokemon within that we don't yet understand--facts and data the Professor would want us to collect as much as possible," he said, guiding her towards the atrium and the Pokemon nursery, where they would deposit Kathleen into her encloser--along with the Crobat, if desired.

After a few moments, Malcom would turn towards Steely. "I noticed you were limping earlier, and I hope I'm not being rude but... we do have a lot of medical facilities here in the city that could help you with any injuries you might have," he offered, a little sheepishly, of course.

The excitement of the sheer amount of pokemon Steely had seen seemed to gloss over the fact that she wasn't from this planet. Either that or he didn't really catch the full implications of not being from 'around here'. She'd set him straight at some point, but for now it was hard not to smile at how interested he was in her pokedex. She headed inside the lab when he motioned for her to, and looked around. It was nothing like Professor Willow's lab, back in Opaddeka, but Hillmoss was nothing like Natura Centra, either. Still, it had a weird sort of familiarity to it.

"I don't exactly know how useful my pokedex information will be, at this point. When I said I wasn't from around here, I'm actually from a different... planet? Universe? Something like that I guess," she smiled a little sheepishly. At that point, she took a moment to step into the zubat's enclosure and raise her hand. The bat, comforted by the smells and feelings of home, took off from Steely's hand. Reaching to her pocket, she hesitated, but figured that if nothing else, there couldn't be too many bats in the world.

Her crobat appeared in a flash of red, standing on the floor as a giant purple squishy ball with gigantic wings. He rustled them and squinted in the bright light, trying to adjust. "Hey boss, wha-" but before he could get into what he was saying, he stopped and seemed to sniff the air. The crobat was gone before Steely could even explain.

"Be gentle you jackass!" she yelled after him. "Alright, I'm outta here."

And she did just that, limping away, which gave even more context to Malcom asking. She stopped when they got out of the nursery, looking at the younger man with surprise. When it seemed to sink in, she smiled very slowly. "You know, I really appreciate it..." she leaned down and pulled up her pant leg, "but I don't think any medical facilities can help me at this point."

The part of her leg now visible was metal, and somewhat crude even as far as Malcom could tell. Still, given that there wasn't any fleshy leg there and she was still standing, it was doing its job. She tapped her knuckles on the lower part of her thigh, which also resonated as if it was metal.

Malcom kneeled down to look at the metallic leg, speechless for the moment as he looked upon it and took in what he was seeing. Now it all made sense--the noise she made while she was walking. He felt the color drain from his cheeks for a moment before he shook his head and stood up. "M--my apologies, Miss Steely. I had no idea you were using mechanical prosthesis. Unfortunately, my expertise ends there--I'm much more of a biological scientist, not a mechanical one. I'm not even sure who here could help you if your legs get damaged," he said apologetically to her, refusing to make full eye contact.

Now it all made sense. She was not just foreign to this city--she was foreign to the planet in general. Another person wayward from their home universe. It appeared that the nexus theory of Natura was holding up--so many worlds were connected to this one, that as soon as something unforseen happened in one of the connected universes, they were taken to the path of least resistance--Natura. It was just a theory at this point--unsupported and unable to be proven at the moment. For all they knew, Natura was just a connection from one series of worlds to another, not so much a nexus but a pit stop between Nexii.

But between her strange tattoos, her legs, and her own confession, she was definitely a true stranger around here. He nodded to her all the same. "I understand. If you need anything--anything at all--please feel free to ask," he said, no small amount of sympathy in his voice.

She smiled sympathetically back at him suddenly being flustered, and shook her head, "It's fine, don't worry about it. You had no way of being able to tell. Though you can stop calling me 'miss', if you don't mind."

In the full light, her tattoos were easier to see. They were bright and unfaded, stretching from wrist to her shoulders where they disappeared under the material of her sleeveless shirt. The entire piece was all legendary pokemon, ten in total; the three beasts, Ho-Oh, Zekrom, Heatran, Cresselia, lion-form Landorus, Zygarde, origin-forme Giratina, and the tail ends of Primal Kyogre and Groudon were visible on her shoulders, their front halves disappearing under her shirt. She ran her hand over her arm briefly before reaching down to adjust her pant leg to make sure it had settled again. "I appreciate it, really. I'm not lacking for anything right now; I met the King and the Queen a few months ago when we first arrived here, and they've been very helpful so far," she straightened up, adjusting her cane to the other hand to lean the other way a little now. She figured the only reason for that was because they knew about her Legendaries; she'd been riding Raijin the Raikou around the city, because she didn't have the prosthetic legs at the time. When she had met the monarchs, she hadn't felt inclined to lie about anything. No doubt, six legendaries had made them want to get on Steely's good side ASAP. Not that Steely was inclined to be destructive... most of the time.

"Though... come to think of it, where's the library? I've been meaning to read some history about this place..." Specifically Brightedge and the entire Direwolf Island area, since the natives there had said some... interesting things to her.

"O--Of course, yes, M--Steely," he said in response to her request to not being called 'miss.' It was an aspect of himself to try to be polite to all that came to the lab, something he took quite seriously. In the better light, he noticed the intricate details on her arms, taking a moment to look upon them and adjust his glasses--but he did not recognize any of them. Then again, if they were particularly potent Pokemon, he probably did not have that much knowledge on them to begin with. Most of his expertise lay with flying Pokemon, and as such, most of the subjects of his studies were relatively benign.

"Ah, so you met the Queen and King? A rare privilege--I've never seen them in person before, just on the television and broadcasts. If they're helping you out, then I'm sure you'll be well taken care of. As for the library, its in the Umbral Quarter--where the residential district is. A few people live in the other districts, but the majority of citizens live there, where its relatively quiet. The libraries there will probably have all the information you need there," he said with a nod of his head. He opened a file cabinet nearby, the sound making quite the racket, before he pulled out a pair of devices.

The first device was a strange, rod-like device, while the other was a PokeBrace similar to his own, just a different color. He passed the latter to her and pushed a few buttons on the former. "Even though the data may be flawed since it would be from another world, your PokeDex can still teach us a lot about Pokemon--maybe not from this world, but from another world in general. We can learn much about other worlds by studying the denizens from there. Who knows--the more we research and find out, the more chances we have of maybe finding a way to visit that world, or at least being able to send you home--if you wanted to, that is. At any rate, if you could hold up your PokeDex for a moment, this device will make a copy of all the data within it and transfer it to our computers here. The PokeBrace is recently refurbished, so it will guide you through setting the device up for use. Once its set up, it will link to the nearest PokeDex to it--yours--and allow for data transferal," he said, smiling at her.

"This city is so damn big," she mumbled, looking up at the ceiling and trying to force herself to remember. The Umbral Quarter was where the apartment building was; the library must be close to the center, where everything was more densely packed. The outer areas seemed to hold more houses with actual yards, while everything became packed with tall buildings closer to the middle. Somewhere in the middle, perhaps she would find it. (Maybe tomorrow I'll head over there before we leave.)

When he went to go rustle through the cabinets, she looked around until she found a chair, and eased herself down into it. Given what she'd seen of him so far, she didn't think he would mind. In fact, it wouldn't surprise her if he apologized for not offering her a chair yet. She was smiling to herself at the thought when he came back over, and sat up to look at what he was holding. She took the Brace in her hands, turning it over to look at it.

"I... this is my home now. I came here willingly," she looked back up at him, a weird, distant and dead sort of look in her eyes for a second. The mention of her pokedex made her pull out the small reflective sunglasses again, "I find it weird with how technologically advanced it is here, that you guys don't have microchips small enough to make this possible... but then again, I had access to military technology where I come from." Likely to Malcom's surprise, she held up the shades towards the device, and it pinged as it absorbed the data. 533 seen, 410 owned, a nearly complete captured listing of 1-150, and a surprising seven legendaries caught, and an additional six seen on top of that. Though, the device may not have told him any of this. If it did, and he looked surprised at all by it, she just smiled and looked extremely tired.

"O--oh. My apologies--I had no idea how tired you probably were. I should have offered you a seat," he said bashfully, scratching his ear in embarrassment. He really should focus more on being a welcoming and supporting host rather than focus so much attention on a piece of technology she had on her person and--

When she held up the glasses to the device, his eyes seemed to bulge out of their sockets. "Th--that's your PokeDex? Simply amazing... then again, with all I've seen in this past week from people from other worlds, I shouldn't be surprised. The technology here in Natura is advanced, I'll admit, but the demand for smaller and smaller devices isn't exactly... high. Most people prefer the same size of devices, but the devices do more and more, y'know?" He explained. He looked at the device before shutting it down, the readout only showing how many were caught and seen, no specifics--none were needed yet until a full analysis of the data could be conducted. For now, it was enough for him to verify her claims and understand just how veteran of a trainer she was. She certainly had the look of someone who had seen quite a bit in her lifetime.

"I understand--Natura is an incredibly peaceful and natural world. I've heard stories about other worlds and, personally, I think ours got the best deal out of all of them. Sure, our history isn't exactly spotless, but overall, I think things around here are a lot better than what they could be. Natural energy to reduce the impact on the environment, no crime, no conflict... no wars. The people here have worked long and hard to really bond as a community," he explained, missing the expression on her face as he fiddled with the device in his hand.

"Thank you very much for the data--I'll have a lot of work ahead of me to catalog it all in the morning. Speaking of which, it is getting rather late--you can leave your Crobat here for the night if you'd prefer. Our nursery facilities are limited compared to others, but we have some of the most loving nurses you can imagine. He'll be well taken care of," he said with a reassuring smile and nod.

(Heh, knew it,) Steely couldn't help but to grin to herself when Malcom got flustered because of the chair. It was nice to be right, occasionally, especially when it wasn't about anything serious.

Suddenly, it was her turn to look surprised and curious, but before she could ask about what got her interested, he plowed onward. Again, she curiously tilted her head at the 'no crime' bit, but didn't try to say anything until he was done. She didn't move to get up quite yet, but scooted forward a little in her seat as if she was going to, "I... you mentioned that you've been seeing a lot of people from other worlds lately?" She scooted forward a little more, until she was literally on the edge of the seat, "You haven't happened to have met... iunno, any really tall guys? Blonde hair, blue eyes, very thin, real smart, softspoken kinda guy?" She looked so damn hopeful. So damn hopeful.

"Hmmm," Malcom said, adjusting his glasses and rubbing his chin at the question she posed. "No, I don't think I've met anyone of quite that description. I met someone named Alex Cruz the other day--he was kind of tall, I guess. Not sure if I would call him soft-spoken, though," Malcom said, proverbially digging into his brain for memories of one of the people he had met recently--at least, those from another world. "He had a Charizard named Ruby. But other than that, I don't know much about him. If he's not who you're looking for, then I'm afraid I can't help you with that. If I see anyone with that description, though, I will definitely give you a call," he said before writing his PokeBrace number on a piece of paper and handing it to Steely.

"I'm guessing you're looking for someone from your own world, huh? Having someone you can relate to would probably help the adjustment process--a lot, actually. I can't even imagine what you're going through, really."

Steely wilted when Malcom said no, but perked up a little again when he did mention someone she knew. Right name, wrong person. She didn't light up as much as she had before, but it at least kept her from looking completely dismayed. He confirmed it when he mentioned Ruby, which then left Steely wondering how in the hell Alex had gotten here.

"Strangely enough, that's not who I was describing, but I do know him. How crazy... I'll have to track him down at some point," she sat back again and looked at the ceiling in thought. While she looked calm, she was filled with questions suddenly. How and why and when and what. She didn't bother Malcom with them, because she figured he didn't know. Hell, Alex himself may not have known.

She looked back at Malcom, smiling sadly, "The guy I was asking about is also named Alex, actually, but his last name is Chadwick. He's uh... my boyfriend, actually." Here, Steely scratched the top-back of her head, before moving down to the base of her skull, where her neck connected. "Or... well, he was anyway."

Standing suddenly, she brushed her free hand on her pants and bobbed her head at him in a nod, "I'll leave Rav here for the night, if you don't mind. When do you think you'll be here in the morning so I can pick him up? I can always go by the library first before coming over here."
