The city was far bigger then any city Steely had ever seen before. She had no way of knowing for sure, but she could swear that both KBville and Brightopolis could fit into one quarter of this place. Not that she minded the vastness; she liked it, really. The great, sprawling metropolis was beautiful, with the glass panes and brightly painted buildings in some areas. There were also canals that ran through the city to transport water, and they reflected the city lights at night. Even the night was totally different; she could actually see the stars in the city. They were fainter then they were out in the middle of nowhere, but for how large the city was, there was way less light pollution then the big cities she was used to.

(If I didn't know any better, I'd think that I'd... iunno, moved onto somewhere better,) Steely thought, standing on the bridge and looking out over the canal.

Her full, real name was Katrina Cerberus, but through a series of events and unfortunate accidents, she eventually ended up with two separate people in one body; Kat and Steely. It's a long, long story. Everything about her seemed like a long story, from the sleeve tattoos of legendary pokemon covering her arms, to the feathered lightning tree scar on one arm visible under the ink, to the cane at her side and the way her legs made weird... mechanical noises when she walked. She ran her hand through her long blonde hair and sighed, (Not... completely better though, I guess.) It was hard not to think of what was missing, what she hadn't seen for months and months. Every time she saw someone absurdly tall in a crowd, she got excited for a second, but it was never him. It couldn't be; he was back in Opaddeka. Even then... she didn't know where he'd disappeared to in their own world.

She shook her head suddenly. (No, stop that. Don't get all weepy again, I'm tired of crying.) the second voice growled from the corner of her mind. Kat was far more aggressive and angry in general then Steely was, but seemed content for the most part to sit back and let Steely have control all of the time. Again... long story.

The both of them were glad the streets were pretty deserted right now... given how late it was, it wasn't surprising. At the moment, she just wanted to be left alone. Or at least more alone then she had been recently, since her two remaining friends were absolutely adamant about never letting her out of their sight.

(Hah, do you blame them, though?)

"I guess not," Steely murmured aloud, scratching the top of her head.

Steely laughed a little bit, "Chaos is a grumpy old man, but I'm sure he'd oblige me if you wanted to see him. That's my blastoise."

Windy seemed to be getting a kick out of Malcom and his reserve of enthusiasm, chuckling quietly as she sipped her tea and simply listened. She didn't have a Key Stone and had no interest in getting one, since her party of six wasn't going to change anytime soon, and none of them could mega evolve.

"I am absolutely not fighting her," Raziel looked a little horrified at the thought, looking over at Steely. "I don't mind doing anything else, and neither would my alakazam, but I'm not doing that."

For once, Steely didn't prod back at him for that, instead shrugging and grinning a little. "I was the only one of the three of that was a... professional trainer, I guess you could say. I don't blame him for not wanting to."

Malcom looked absolutely enthused when Steely offered to show off her Blastoise. The researcher's aide seemed to be profoundly giddy with the very concept of seeing two Mega-Evolutions in action, but his overwhelming cheer was soon diffused, expelled like a broken balloon at Raziel's comment. Still, he managed to salvage what he could--

"W--well, that's fine. I mean, just seeing the evolutions take place would be a great scientific leap for our laboratory! I can have the equipment set up this afternoon, if you two would like," he said, as if wanting to get this experiment/research opportunity underway as quickly as possible. He was quick to look over at Windy, still finding himself tilting his head back just to look her in the eyes properly. "You would be invited too, of course, Miss Windy!" He said, looking around at the three of them thereafter, the aide barely able to handle his coffee properly with all the excitement.

"I can arrange for Raziel and Miss Windy to receive PokeDexes and PokeBraces at that time as well! My, we might just be able to outfit all three of you properly for adventures in this world by the end of the day!"

Even though Malcom seemed to visibly deflate at the refusal, Raziel didn't look like he was going to bend at all on the matter.

"Heh, sure. Today or whenever, I don't mind. I'm not doing anything time-specific anytime soon," Steely said after she took a drink of her chocolate coffee monstrosity. Raziel looked over at her while Malcom was talking to Windy.

"Do you think you can find Chaos by this afternoon?"

Steely frowned. Chaos and the rest of her small amount of water pokemon lived in the lake that was down south of Direwolf... another lake that seemed to be bottomless. She wondered how she kept finding these damn things. "I don't see why not? If nothing else, I can send Muse down in there after him," she shrugged.

Windy chuckled a little, as if the little man would be able to stop her from doing whatever she wanted anyway. "I could bring Nighthawk with me so you can see him too." For the largest dose of DISCOVERY, or something. Or she just thought his sheer, overflowing enthusiasm was amusing.

Raz and Windy both shrugged a little. Windy was excited about the Dex, but neither of them really needed a Brace; for whatever reason, their PokeTechs from Opaddeka still functioned and seemed to do all the same things the PokeBrace did. They'd deal with it when they got to that point, perhaps.

"Oh, would you? That would be amazing, Miss Windy! I've always wanted to see such a Pokemon--and, you know, it not be a photograph or a recording or something. I find studying birds is a lot easier when up close and in the flesh, so to speak, not to mention there is so much we can learn from such large birds and--" he continued on, as if the subject of birds was the single most fascinating thing in the world. However, he managed to stop himself before he got into too many details.

"Well, that settles it then! I'll make sure the equipment is up and running by the time you three return with your Pokemon. They'll get to stretch their legs a little, we'll get some good scans and data about their Mega-Evolutions--and I get to see Nighthawk, oh, what a treat!--I'll hook you both up with 'Dexes, and then afterwards, we can get some dinner together! I love it when a plan comes together! Oh, so much to do and prepare for!" He said, apparently his excitement getting the better of him as he stood up from his seat, his coffee only half finished as he bowed to the three visitors. "I will see you three in the afternoon! Please enjoy your stay in our city!" He said before he ran off back towards the laboratory, his excitement practically overwhelming whatever else it was he was doing at the time.

AND he left his pen on the table. Brilliant.

Steely waved, fighting back a big silly grin, and Windy bowed her head a little as Malcom finished his rambling and bolted. It wasn't until he was gone that Steely chuckled and shook her head, "I kind of wish I had his level of enthusiasm."

To her left, Raziel snorted quietly into his coffee, but not quietly enough for Steely to miss it. He waved it off when she gave him a look. "He's just a very interesting young man, that's all."

"That reminds me, what the actual fuck were you smirking about, anyway?" Steely leaned over to the point of invading the psychic's personal space, to no effect.

"Nothing, don't worry about it." Either the two girls would find out later or not all, what the lab aide thought of them. Considering Malcom's reaction to finding out about his powers, Raziel was hopeful that he'd forget what Steely had mentioned.

Steely might have said something about it, but a flutter of wings made her to stop and look up. At some point, her bat had gotten bored and taken to the air to look around.

"That dude was the biggest dork I've ever seen!" Ravage piped up, landing in Malcom's emptied chair and nicking his pen.

Steely shook her head at him, "Well, you're not wrong, Rav. C'mon, let's go see if we can find old man Chaos."

Steely managed to find her grumpy turtle easily enough, finding Riptide lounging on the shore and sending the black and white vaporeon down to locate the turtle. Even once he was on the surface, he grumbled and slouched but eventually relented. He wouldn't admit it, but he was curious. They'd never used the mega evolution before... never needed to. Though everything had gone to hell in a handbasket pretty quickly after she had managed to get a rock for him, so...

She gave her head a good shake as she pushed open the door for the lab for the second time that day. This time, she actually had a full six pokeballs at her belt instead of none like before. Raziel was quietly walking behind her, and Windy and Nighthawk took up the back. The braviary was just as tall and warrior like as his trainer. His feathers were black and dark gray, with white striping along part of his outer wing and a white crest on his head. The bird stood so tall that he had to duck down to get through the lab's front door. Once inside he peeped curiously while he looked around.

"O-oh! Welcome-Welcome! Come in!" A voice from further into the lab shouted, the head of Malcom peaking around some rather heavy and large equipment. He beckoned for them to just pass right by the receptionist desk, which had a rather bored looking young woman reading a book and popping bubbles with her chewing gum. She seemed to be waiting for her nail polish to dry out, apparently unaware or ignoring the newcomers to the laboratory.

Of course, once they crossed the way to the lab, Malcom was a flurry of motion, setting up all kinds of equipment for use. Off to one side, a table had been set up with various crackers, cupcakes, drinks, and other refreshments for the lab's visitors, as well as a few PokeBraces and PokeDexes, each one of different colors. One set had a sticky note attached with 'Raziel' upon it--the paired devices having an orange color upon their panels--and another with 'Windy' marked upon them, the paired devices of a light blue hue with ornamental engravings upon them--closer inspection would show that the engravings were really recent.

"Please, make yourselves comfortable. The equipment took longer to calibrate than I had intend--!" He started to say, his eyes immediately snapping up towards Windy and her Braviary, Nighthawk. This sent the young researcher into an enthusiastic glee.

"Oh, my goodness, he's so big!" He said, approaching the large bird as he adjusted his glasses. "You must be an incredibly caretaker indeed, Miss Windy--! His feathers are so beautiful and perfect! What an impressive master of the skies!"

The four of them headed back at Malcom's invitation, Steely and Raziel not even giving the woman a second glance. Windy looked over, but only because Nighthawk was staring intently at the gum popping. She waved and he followed without a fuss, waddling along. The black bird towered over even Windy by at least a foot or two when he was stretched out all the way, but he walked at an angle as birds did. He looked just as curious at their surroundings as Windy did, especially all of the equipment Malcom was fussing with.

Nighthawk puffed himself up big when the lab lad came over, but deflated at Windy's hand on his wing. The warrior looked pleased at Malcom's reaction, and proud of her giant black bird. Up close, Malcom could see that Nighthawk actually wore some kind of riding harness, leather and both well used and well taken care of. The giant bird ducked his head down to Malcom's level, his predatory yellow eyes watching intently.

The bird opened his razor sharp beak inches from Malcom's face, and made the tiniest little peep noise a bird of that size possibly could.

"This is my Nighthawk. Nighthawk, this is Malcom. He works for the professor here." Windy stroked the bird's chest feathers with her hand, still beaming proudly.

In the background, Raziel grinned a little to himself and went over to the machinery to take a look. Steely frowned and followed after him.

(What?)

(Nothing, really.)

"A pleasure to meet you, Nighthawk!" Malcom greeted delightfully, only now noticing the harness on the bird's person. "Amazing--I had figured he was large enough to ride upon with its natural wingspan, but it looks like you're well-accustomed to such travel--My, to actually ride upon a magnificent creature through the sky--erhrm! I'm getting ahead of myself!" He said before he stepped away from Nighthawk for a moment.

"Welcome to the Pokemon Lab," he said, giving a sweeping motion with his arms and bowing to his visitors. "The equipment is nearly ready--they're just going through calibrations at the moment--but they'll be ready in a few minutes, so please, make yourselves comfortable. Here," he said, gesturing towards the table, "I've set a few things out for you three, as well as your Pokemon. I've also put together a PokeDex and PokeBrace for Miss Windy and Raziel," he said, positively beaming at the three of his guests.

He made it a particular point to retrieve the pair of devices for Windy and handed them to her, a light dusting of blush on his face. "I--I hope you like them! PokeDexes help record information of Pokemon you have seen, battled against, and caught throughout your adventures--it will also give you information whenever you're in a pinch. The PokeBrace has a three-fold purpose--it acts as a small computer for various daily needs, a communication device in order to speak with your friends and loved ones, and it will also transmit information gathered by your PokeDex to the laboratory here so we can analyze it. Even now, terrabytes of information pour in from hundreds of trainers around the world, and its quite the task to analyze and catalog it all properly--but the more we can find out about the Pokemon and World around us, the more we can truly understand and appreciate it," he said, going into his usual explanation as if he were very used to introducing people to the technology they were being given. Or he just really, really enjoyed this part of the job.

"Since your PokeDexes are new, it will take a few days for them to gather information on the Pokemon you already have--and don't worry, I understand you might not be from Natura, per se. As more and more visitors from other worlds come to ours, I'm noticing a lot of similarities between Pokemon from their worlds and the Pokemon from this one, so any information you may have will always be welcome. Its not only important that we understand the world of Natura, but of all worlds that are connected to this one. Who knows--maybe with this research, we can find a way for you to visit your own home worlds, eh?" He asked, before scratching the back of his head. At that moment, an audible 'ding-ding-ding-dong-ding!' emitted from the machines, sending the researcher into an excited mood.

"Oh, excellent! The equipment is ready! Which of you two would like to conduct your Mega-Evolutions first, I wonder?" He asked, finally looking away from Miss Windy for a moment to look over at Steely and Raziel with a giant smile on his face.

"It is nice," Windy buried her hand in Nighthawk's ruff of head feathers, which the bird closed his eyes in response to. It was very fantastic to fly with him. The only thing better would be flying on her own, which she didn't think she could do. Though, she remembered the dark wings and bright eyes of someone who could...

She looked over when Nighthawk waddled further into the lab, looking around. He spotted a sturdy looking piece of machinery nearby and fluttered up to sit on it after testing to see if it would hold him. The bird looked a lot more comfortable sitting up higher, and watched Windy for a second before looking around. He liked to have a good view of everything going on. Windy also knew he didn't really like being inside a building, but liked being able to keep an eye on his trainer. She shook her head and let him stay where he was.

Steely and Raz both were standing nearby and looking at the machines, talking quietly and wondering what they all did, when they heard Raz's name and looked to see. Steely frowned at the sight of Malcom getting the Brace and Dex for Windy, and Raziel glanced sideways at her just as she suddenly got it. "Oh!" she exclaimed quietly, snapping her fingers.

(Yeah, that.)

If Windy noticed any of it, it didn't show. She took both of the devices from Malcom, one in each hand, turning the Brace over to look at the engravings. Raz reached and took his off of the table, also noting the orange color on his.

"Oh, so they are like our PokeTechs. The only difference is that the default device didn't have anything to do with the Dex," Steely said when Malcom explained it, looking at the Brace in Raz's hand. It only made her more sure that they actually didn't need one. For whatever strange, inter-dimensional reason, their Poketechs still worked just fine, after getting them re-calibrated. But, she didn't say anything about it. If nothing else, she still kind of wanted to take one of them apart and see how they ticked. She was also curious if there was any kind of tracking beacon in them, something she wasn't too happy about pondering.

Raziel looked like he wasn't happy about what he was pondering either, turning the pokedex over in his hands slowly. He sharply looked up at the mention of visiting their home world again, and even Windy glanced over, but none of them got the chance to say anything before the machinery interrupted. Steely was scratching the back of her head and looking at her shoes when Malcom turned to them, and didn't look up right away. Raziel shifted a little, like he was nervous, but he was the first one to reach into his pocket.

"I, uh, I'll go first," he said, once he produced the pokeball. He waited until Malcom showed him where to let the alakazam out, and then released her where specified. Steely was looking over the food, and had to do a double take when she glanced up.

The alakazam was blind... or at least Steely had to assume she was. The whole pokemon looked roughed up and scarred all over, sort of gnarled to the point she floated instead of standing. Her mustache was short and ragged, and it looked like she'd gotten hurt in the face badly enough that Steely was starting to think that both of her eyes were simply gone. Steely looked at Raz, who was pointedly looking at absolutely nobody. "Raz, what-?"

"Remember, I told you once, that there was a reason I didn't like letting my pokemon out?" Raziel looked at Malcom instead of Steely, who was just staring. "Ready?"

"Ah, I see!" Malcom exclaimed as he looked upon the old, worn Alakazam. It certainly looked like it had been through a very, very rough life, that was for certain--but then again, it had a certain kind of wizened charm to it as well... "You and your Pokemon must have gone through a lot together--I can tell there's a strong bond between you two," he said, nodding for a moment before he walked over towards a computer and started pressing a few keys.

"Alright, we are ready to begin data collection! Please initiate the Mega-Evolution when ready. The equipment here will monitor all of the Pokemon's vitals, muscle mass, brain waves, as well as visually recording the event in three-dimensional graph. So in essence--everything we can record and collect, we will be recording it now. But don't worry--it should be completely painless," he said before nodding to Raziel to continue.

Raziel did his best to look neutral at Malcom's talking, and a smile tugged at the corner of the psychic's mouth but it never got any further. "Strong enough for a mega evolution."

(...there's something wrong here. There's something I'm missing,) Steely was having to lean against something now as she watched. Windy was playing with her Pokebrace when Steely looked over to see what she thought, and the blonde left her to it. The warrior likely hadn't noticed anything amiss, with the attention she was giving her new toy.

(I know you can hear me, and I will ask you about this later,) Steely thought, wringing her cane between her hands. (Sonofabitch.)

To his credit, Raziel didn't react at all, if he was even paying attention to Steely. He was watching his alakazam, who seemed to be getting a read of the room without her eyes. Her sightless face turned towards Malcom as he was speaking, and she stepped over to the middle of the machinery so it could get all the correct readings.

"Ready?" Raziel said softly to the mangled pokemon, and she nodded slightly in response. Her own mega stone was set in a piece of gold hanging from a loose chain necklace around her neck, rippling brown and gold. Raziel gently tapped the key stone set into the band around his wrist, and the matte rainbow suddenly rippled and started to shine bright gold-amber. The glimmer was reflected in the alakazam's mega stone, and the pokemon started to glow. Once it cleared, it left behind an equally mangled looking mega alakazam, sitting with crossed legs hovering above the ground. This one's beard/mustache was nowhere near the expected level of floofyness, instead small and thin. The pokemon was slowly juggling the five spoons telekenetically, faintly glowing pink. Steely tilted her head a little where she was standing... she's heard about them and seen pictures, but it was still interesting to see in person.

Raz glanced over at Malcom to see what was next.

The rush of energy was nearly palpable, the kind of power that one could almost taste on their other senses, like the changing of seasons or air pressure. Malcom did all he could to keep his hands and eyes on his computer and instruments, but more than once, he found himself gawking at the incredible transformation that unfolded before his eyes, the equipment going wild with all the different readings and levels that were passing through their systems. A few almost overloaded, and the spectrometer nearly exploded from the stress, the box-like device on one end of the room faintly smoking from the experience. It was clear some of this equipment was not yet ready for this kind of exposure, but the young researcher seemed more than pleased with the results all the same.

Once the transition was completed, the instruments finally reported their findings upon the monitors, as well as printing a lengthy readout of all they had collected, like measuring the strength of an earthquake. Malcom's hair seemed a lot more frazzled by the experience than ever before, and his hideous tie was out of place again--though Malcom hardly noticed either out of place admist his pure joy and excitement. He walked up towards Raziel and his Mega-Alakazam with the biggest smile one could imagine.

"That was INCREDIBLE! I've never seen such a powerful release of energy before--and the instruments were all off the charts as well! We could spend months analyzing all of this data now--especially how the two stones interact with one another! A lot of the Mega-Evolution still eludes us, but its clear that an already-existing connection between trainer and Pokemon might be required--truly excellent! I'd ask for a demonstration of its power, but I don't think the systems could handle the estimated power your Alakazam has--thank you, thank you, thank you!" Malcom said repeatedly, bowing over and over again to Raziel and the Alakazam. As per usual, Malcom's excitement caused him to practically miss the smoke coming out of some of the devices nearby--though some of the others in the room would likely notice by now.

Steely was the first one to notice that something was burning. It had a particular smell that she was sort of familiar with, the machine-ish smell of an electrical fire. Likely she would have been the first to notice anyway, given that she had been glancing at the machines as much as she was watching the evolution.

Raziel couldn't keep from smiling a little at Malcom, something about his excitement rubbed off on him enough to break through the calm quietness that he was currently wearing. Normally this much attention would have bothered him, but it was so overwhelmingly positive that he was left not knowing exactly what to think. He withdrew his pokemon since it looked like that was it for the testing.

In the background, Steely's eyes widened when the smoke got worse and she walked over to Malcom while never taking her eyes off of the smoking machinery. She grabbed his shoulder, and pointed.

"Fire?"

"Fire? No, Miss Steely, an Alakazam is a Psychic-Type, Pokemon, though I suppose it could be easier to confuse the two since psychic auras have a kind of flame-like--oh," he said, finally noticing the smoke coming out of one of the machines. He let out a panicked scream as the realization hit him on the head, and he ran towards the nearest fire extinguisher, the poor researcher accidentally knocking if off its stand and landing on his foot, causing another pained yelp to spring from his mouth. He finally managed to pick up and arm the extinguisher before opening up the machine, spraying the fire-retardant suds all over the insides of the instrument--probably far more than what was needed--before he heaved a sigh of relief.

"W--well, I guess it was more than some of these machines can handle, huh?" He said, a nervous chuckle audible from behind the machinery before he put the extinguisher back where he found it and walked back towards the computer terminal.

"Right, well, ah, Miss Steely, if you would like to go next," he said, a sheepish grin on his face, as if he were still trying to recover from the earlier excitement. Or maybe he was just naturally nervous around such pretty women. Or something like that--he did, after all, make it a point to look over towards Miss Windy to see if she required any assistance with her new devices.

Steely calmly sidestepped so Malcom could run screaming over to the extinguisher to put things out, letting him handle it. She figured that water wasn't the way to go, and for whatever reason a fire extinguisher hadn't occurred to her. Not that she knew how to use one.

"There's instructions on the side," Raz leaned over a little to whisper, to which Steely responded by just giving him a look.

"Apparently," Steely said dryly, looking at the fire suppressant material all over the machine. Given that it was all smoking and now covered in foam, Steely figured that they were done, but Malcom surprised her by suggesting they continue. "I... sure, if it's alright without that one," she bobbed her head at the foam.

But since clearly SCIENCE had to continue, Steely pulled the first pokeball from her belt and released it. The red light was much larger than before, forming into the solid shelled form of her blastoise. Given that he was a starter, Malcom should have been at least somewhat familiar with them, so he would immediately be able to see that Chaos was quite a bit different than normal. His skin was a real dark blue color, his shell darker brown, and his cannons, claws, and the edge of his shell dull gold.

He nonchalantly scratched his nose, spotting the food after a second. The starter grinned and strutted over to pick up a cupcake and start to peel the wrapper off. Steely gestured at him, resigned to the turtle's behavior.

"This is Chaos."

Best to give Malcom a second to flip out before they continued.

"O--oh, right, the machine. Don't worry, that was just an ancillary component--no need to worry, I can assure you," Malcom said as Steely revealed the Pokemon from its containment, the three of them suddenly dwarfed by the massive Pokemon known as Blastoise. Already, Malcom's eyes lit up light diamonds in the light, his keen eyes looking over the discolorations on the turtle-like Pokemon.

"Fascinating! The darker skin, the alternate cannons--I do believe this is what we at the lab call a 'Shiny' morphosis of a Pokemon--incredibly rare and valued. He seems quite--" Malcom started to say, until the giant turtle strode over towards the table to retrieve something to eat. "--hungry," he managed to finish watching the Pokemon with incredible interest. He leaned over towards the side to get a better look at the Pokemon's shell and its general stature before looking over towards Steely again.

"Is there, uh... is there a problem? You seem rather, ah, perturbed."

While he was pulling the paper cup off of the treat, Chaos turned his head to look at Malcom. His eyes were different too - bright, bright emerald green. Finally getting all of the paper off the cupcake, he tossed the wrapper into the garbage and shoved the entire pastry into his mouth.

"Nah, no problem really. I just know he's... really not interested in what's going on," Steely put her hands up in a shrug, then let them drop back to her sides.

"Now hold on a second," Chaos rumbled in his own language, looking at Steely after picking up a cookie. "You warned me that he was going to flip out when he saw me, so I figured I'd get a snack before we get started."

"Yeah, but you didn't need to be... iunno, rude about it."

"Not like I can say hello or anything," Chaos popped the cookie in his mouth.

"You can wave, I guess."

Chaos looked flatly at Malcom, and then raised his hand to wave. If it was possible to wave sarcastically, he was definitely doing it.

"He's just a grumpy old man," Steely said, as if that explained anything.

The cupcake and cookie seemed to satisfy the turtle; now he seemed to be paying attention. Steely gestured for him to go over where the equipment could properly see him. "Chaos is my starter, we've been through a lot together. I think he takes the whole relaxing thing a lot more seriously then I do. Whaddya think, ready buddy?"

Chaos rolled his shoulders and his head, and nodded. His own mega stone was set in an armor plate under his neck on the upper part of his belly shell. Steely glanced over to see if Malcom was ready before tapping on her own key stone so it started to glow bright electric blue. It was set into a stickpin that she hadn't been wearing earlier, still without her black coat since it was so warm in Natura Central.

The same sort of light explosion happened to the turtle, falling away to reveal mega blastoise this time. He was far more lively then the alakazam; he flexed his arms and puffed his chest out, looking pleased. Steely... wasn't sure how she felt. Tingly? Light headed? Like electricity was coursing through her, but not maliciously like she had experienced before.

"...huh. That's... huh."

Windy was just about the same as she had been before; still looking over and playing with the Brace. She seemed to be getting along fine with it, flipping through the menus and seeing everything it did. Raziel was standing well out of the way, trying to be forgotten and looking over the snacks to see if there was anything he could actually eat.

Like a little toddler, Malcom giggled a little bit and clapped his hands happily. "Amazing! You two seem to communicatequite well--and wave! How amazing! I can barely get my bird Pokemon to behave themselves, personally," he said with a bashful grin and a scratch on the back of his head. He nodded to Steely's explanation all the same--apparently, a Blastoise waving in greeting was thoroughly entertaining for the Pokemon Lab Aide. Regardless, he nodded to Steely when he was ready for the transformation, obviously having to press a few more keys than before in order to avoid causing some of the equipment to burst into smoking flames again--something he would have to fix at a later date, of course.

Regardless, once again, Malcom was rendered a gawking, surprised individual as he watched the transformation, the explosion of light and energy causing him to lean back a little from the display, but his eyes stayed on course with the show, the gadgets and gizmos in the room trying their hardest to register and collect all the data they could without spontaneously combusting. Once the show was over, Malcom finally looked over at his computer screen again before clapping happily. "Wow--what energy and power! I'm honestly impressed--doubly so with two Mega Evolutions in one day! I mean, it will take me weeks to analyze all of this data, but from looking at the readings, its nothing short of amazing--Chaos is quite the powerful Pokemon in this state!" He said with a cheer before looking back over at Steely.

"And the connection between you is just as strong--My instruments are reading some kind of energy loop between you two, as if some form of symbiotic relationship is required for such a change to be conducted--and maintained. Interesting..." He said before nodding a few times to himself, practically forgetting about Raziel's presence for the moment. Raziel would likely find all manner of treats and snacks that he could probably chow down on--there was no shortage of crackers, meats and cheeses. Not to mention an unhealthy amount of coffee nearby.

At this point, Malcom finally stepped away from his computer to examine the Blastoise more closely. "My, my--so even in his Mega-Evolved state, he still retains his 'shiny' colorations--peculiar! This means that the Mega-Evolution is, indeed, conducted by the Pokemon's body, with the help of the trainer and Mega-Evolution stones... this disproved a few theories, at least," he said before nodding and looking upon his guests once again. "How fortunate I am that we met! I am humbled by your presence and good will." He finished with a bow.

Malcom's gushing only seemed to go straight to the turtle's head; he puffed out his chest and put his hands on his hips in a super hero pose, grinning like a fool, the gem set below his neck glittering rainbow and blue. Steely likely would have rolled her eyes at him, but she was too busy being distracted by seemingly nothing.

"The who what huh?" Steely murmured, flexing her free hand and watching it like she'd never seen it before. She snapped her head up only when Malcom walked over to more closely inspect the big turtle, and caught up a little on what the lab aide was saying. "The whole Mega Evolution thing was completely new where we came from, so I'm sorry I can't be of much help with telling you about it. I don't think anyone knew how it worked... or at least published anything about it."

Chaos tilted this way and that way so that Malcom could get a good look at his powerful Mega form, grinning like a movie star the entire time. Finally noticing it now, Steely rolled her eyes at him.

"Hey, you helped us out too, it's the least we could do," she shrugged, not sure what else to say.

Raz had mostly given up on what all was on the table, since it was all pretty much things he couldn't eat, up until he spotted the coffee. He took note of the unhealthy amount of it, but figured if nothing else the energy wouldn't be a bad thing.

The flash of light had gotten Windy's attention, so she managed to see the turtle's Mega Evolution. Her eyebrows hiked up as if she was impressed, but it only lasted for a few seconds. If Malcom really wanted to be impressed, Windy knew Steely had way more than that tucked away in her pocket, but didn't like to bring it up. Besides, the warrior knew she would take her own current team over anything else, regardless of shiny magical evolution.

"Not that I mind or anything," Chaos spoke up suddenly, "but how long did you want me to hold this?"

Steely looked at Malcom, and translated, "How long did you need him to stay like this?"

"Hm? Oh, yes!" Malcom said, a flurry of blush coloring his facial features for a moment until he backed away from the massive Pokemon. "W--well, the equipment managed to collect all the information it could, and the cameras have taken images of each Pokemon, so I guess he doesn't need to pose any longer," the aide said, a little bashfully, before he returned to the computer and shut the system down. It was clear much of it would need maintenance after two mega-evolutions, not to mention the plethora of information that would need to be analyzed. The prospect of the latter filled the researcher with great enthusiasm, unblunted by the former, by all appearances.

Malcom finally looked over at Steely, beaming with joy. "Indeed, not many are able to make a lot of progress towards writing up official papers on the Mega-Evolution--after all, there is still much about the process we do not understand, the feat still shrouded by a thousand years of mystery and legend. So many have different opinions about the whole thing, but thanks to you and Raziel--and your Pokemon, of course--we will be able to make great leaps and strides in our research. We may be able to make a publication on such research as well, and I would love to include all three of you in on it as well!

"So please, whenever you find the need to utilize such an evolution in the future, such as a battle, make sure your PokeDexes are on full recording mode--very simple to initiate. The more we can collect on such things, the more we can analyze the data and come to necessary conclusions. Its possible that we missed something, after all, what with this being a controlled, relaxed environment. The stress of battle may result in other changes during a Mega-Evolution," he started to speculate before he shook his head. "But, ah, my apologies! I'm getting ahead of myself--I'm sure all three of you are a little fatigued after today's excitement," he said before he looked over towards Windy, that silly smile still on his face.

"Though, if it wouldn't be much trouble--if it's alright that is--" he started to say, his index fingers poking one another in nervousness. "P--Perhaps I could see your beautiful bird Pokemon in flight? I do so enjoy watching birds fly..."

"I mean, I can keep posing if he wants me to," Chaos rumbled, putting his hands on his hips and grinning again. Steely jabbed at his side with her cane, which didn't do anything because he was covered in shell.

"You can go back now, he's going to be busy forever with all the information he collected," Steely mumbled at him, still pointlessly poking at his side. The turtle pouted, but the stress of keeping up the form must have gotten the better of him. He sighed and seemed to release the form change, light falling away to leave him back to his normal blastoise body.

"That was awesome, though," he nudged Steely, who finally felt the weird feeling clear out of her head. It hadn't been a bad feeling, she just hadn't been prepared for it. Now at least she felt like she could think.

"Honestly, I'm hoping the need never arises," she admitted after Malcom explained the recording mode on the pokedex. "I'm kind of... retired now, I guess? As you can imagine, it's not easy for me to get around these days."

Raziel had obtained his coffee, and walked back over while Malcom turned to their warrior friend. Steely quirked an eyebrow at him sipping his coffee, but he just grinned a little and pointed at Malcom as he rambled out his question. The blonde grinned but bit her lip to hide it, otherwise she knew she'd be grinning like an idiot.

Windy fixed the brace around her wrist, and looked at Malcom with a little bit of surprise at first. It quickly turned into a smile, "Of course! Come, come, outside!" The woman turned and whistled for Nighthawk, waving for Malcom to follow her outside while her bird brought up the rear.

Steely and Raziel didn't follow, at least not right away. The blonde let herself grin stupidly now, and even Raziel was grinning a little as he took a sip of his coffee.

"I ship it."

"Can't say that I disagree," Raziel bobbed his head towards the exit, "Shall we?"

Steely nodded at him, and the two humans followed by the blastoise headed outside to watch all this unfold.

Bird and warrior waited until Malcom was outside with them before Windy gestured and the great black bird started running along the ground before he could get enough speed and lift to get off the ground. He circled back around while he was gaining altitude between the buildings, and let loose a screech when he was high up. Windy beamed up at him, proud and happy to be sharing her big black bird friend with someone else.

"F--Fantastic!" Malcom shouted in sheer delight as his eyes were practically glued to Nighthawk's positively impressive flying. Seeing such a big bird soar though the sky was a rather excellent sight to say the least--a true lord of the skies! "It's hard to imagine a bird so big gliding so well through the wind--but his wingspan is monstrous! You definitely have a talent for training such things, Miss Windy," the aide said, continuing to watch Nighthawk for a long moment as the giant bird continued to gain altitude. "Not to mention the saddle--I daresay he's big enough and strong enough to easily handle a rider. Oh, what a feeling it must be to ride around the clouds--you have my envy," he said, that silly blush still filling his face as he looked back over at the beaming Windy, bowing his head to her.

"You see, it is something of a passion of mine to study the lives, habits, personalities, and capabilities of bird Pokemon and their--their trainers, you see," He said, once again his index fingers poking one another, as if what he had said was somehow vastly inappropriate. "N--not that you or Nighthawk are just some experiment, I can assure you! Its just very interesting to me to see the bonds between bird Pokemon and those that raise them!"

Chaos was squinting up at the sky, his vision not fantastic at long range, while Steely shaded her eyes and watched Nighthawk float around above them. She had to privately agree with Malcom; the bird was impressive just as he was, since he was so huge. The blonde shuddered as the bird's shadow passed over them, hunching her shoulders up and hoping nobody had seen. Raziel glanced sideways at her, but didn't say anything.

"The rufflet and braviary where I come from are naturally large," Windy explained, pausing to whistle. The bird did a few loops in response, dropping down a little. "He listens well," she tilted her head. That much at least she had a hand in. She looked back down at him and his blush, eyebrows hiking up a little. Still, what he said couldn't have been inappropriate to her, because she laughed a little.

"You are curious. Nothing wrong with that," she turned her eyes skyward again, watching Nighthawk circle. The warrior licked her lips and stuck her fingers in her mouth so she could whistle shrilly up at the bird. Nighthawk turned and dove at the ground, coming to a stop over their heads and flapping to hover for a few seconds before dropping down onto his talons again.

"<Hey, you, turn around,"> the woman spoke in a completely different language to the bird, rough and foreign. Nighthawk tilted his head but did as he was told, turning so his saddled back was facing them. Without warning or anything, Windy stepped behind Malcom and picked him up under the arms. She made it look effortless.

"You're tiny, so he can carry you easily. Here, grab on," she held him out, handles and foot holds visible on and coming off of the saddle for Malcom to grab onto.

In the background, Steely was quietly trying not to laugh aloud and fall at the same time, one hand holding her cane and the other grabbing Raziel's arm to keep from silent-laughing herself right onto the pavement.

"Impressive! He seems to follow your directions very well--it's clear you two have been training for a long time together. I've been having trouble getting my own bird Pokemon to respond so well--gyah!" Malcom was cut off from his tirade as he was literally picked up off the ground, his feet unconsciously moving around as if trying to get them to land back on the ground. It wasn't until he was put into the saddle--his feet sliding into the foot holds by some kind of miracle--that he realized what had happened.

"O--oh! A--alright! I have to say, I've never really ridden on a bird before..." He said, sheepishly and nervously as he gripped the handles as tight as he could, his knuckles turning quite white from the sheer grip he kept. His blush seemed to deepen even more just from the awkwardness of the situation.

He seemed about to protest before he looked back over at Windy, seeing the eager expression on her face, which seemed to change his mind in an instant. "B--but of course I would like to try!" He said, more to keep her pleased than to disappoint her after she went through all the trouble to get him into the saddle. It really did seem like he was jumping into uncharted waters with this sort of thing... He leaned towards the giant bird's head and tried to whisper.

"...please be slow."

Windy waited until he got a good grip before letting go. The warrior woman was a lot taller than he was, so she had to adjust the straps and belts so he wouldn't simply fall out because it was made for someone much larger. Fortunately after she got it all set up, it felt pretty safe and secure, though she also loosed a strap that she secured around him, making it even harder for him to simply fall off. Nighthawk swiveled his head around the best he could to watch, wiggling a little to adjust to the different weight on his back.

"Nighthawk is very gentle," Windy reassured, giving Malcom's back a pat. The bird peeped too, bobbing his head. "You'll like it! Go on," this time she gave her bird a pat on the wing, and the braviary sidestepped until he was facing the stretch of empty road again so he could get his run. He made a curious noise and looked at Malcom, clearly hearing his whisper. Well... slow was relative, he needed speed to get into the air, but the bird felt like he understood what Malcom meant. No crazy diving or anything like that. He bobbed his head again, and turned back towards the empty stretch of street.

Nighthawk suddenly lunged forward into a run, which was a bumpy and jarring affair for Malcom, but after a few flaps of his wings, both bird and boy were in the air. The windows and bricks of the buildings flew past as he powered upward with his wings, gaining altitude until they were above some of the smaller buildings. Now with enough room, the bird gently leaned to the side, turning so they could see their friends on the ground. Warm air came up from under them, letting the bird gain more altitude without much effort. It was slow, at least, the black bird just soaring through the sky, looking at the ground without much attention paid to his passenger.

Even as they got higher and higher, the city stretched endlessly in all directions.
