The Dog in the Machine

The city was far bigger then any city Steely had ever seen before. She had no way of knowing for sure, but she could swear that both KBville and Brightopolis could fit into one quarter of this place. Not that she minded the vastness; she liked it, really. The great, sprawling metropolis was beautiful, with the glass panes and brightly painted buildings in some areas. There were also canals that ran through the city to transport water, and they reflected the city lights at night. Even the night was totally different; she could actually see the stars in the city. They were fainter then they were out in the middle of nowhere, but for how large the city was, there was way less light pollution then the big cities she was used to. (If I didn't know any better, I'd think that I'd... iunno, moved onto somewhere better,) Steely thought, standing on the bridge and looking out over the canal. Her full, real name was Katrina Cerberus, but through a series of events and unfortunate accidents, she eventually ended up with two separate people in one body; Kat and Steely. It's a long, long story. Everything about her seemed like a long story, from the sleeve tattoos of legendary pokemon covering her arms, to the feathered lightning tree scar on one arm visible under the ink, to the cane at her side and the way her legs made weird... mechanical noises when she walked. She ran her hand through her long blonde hair and sighed, (Not... completely better though, I guess.) It was hard not to think of what was missing, what she hadn't seen for months and months. Every time she saw someone absurdly tall in a crowd, she got excited for a second, but it was never him. It couldn't be; he was back in Opaddeka. Even then... she didn't know where he'd disappeared to in their own world. She shook her head suddenly. (No, stop that. Don't get all weepy again, I'm tired of crying.) the second voice growled from the corner of her mind. Kat was far more aggressive and angry in general then Steely was, but seemed content for the most part to sit back and let Steely have control all of the time. Again... long story. The both of them were glad the streets were pretty deserted right now... given how late it was, it wasn't surprising. At the moment, she just wanted to be left alone. Or at least more alone then she had been recently, since her two remaining friends were absolutely adamant about never letting her out of their sight. (Hah, do you blame them, though?) "I guess not," Steely murmured aloud, scratching the top of her head. Edited by Steel Cerberus, Nov 23 2014, 08:57 PM.

"I--If you say so!" He said nervously as Windy tried to reassure him. It was clear how really nervous he was about the whole ordeal, but he held on all the same, especially when the Braviary started to make its run for speed. He was jostled around a little bit, the poor guy letting out a few yelps in surprise at how rough the ride was so far--and once they were in the air, OOOoooh boy, he nearly panicked! He gripped tightly to the bird's harness, his head nearly pressed against the back of Blackwind's neck, his eyes squeezed shut as if expecting the worst to happen. But after a few moments of no sudden impact with the ground, he opened a single eye, which promptly caused the other to open up. Somewhere, he had lost his glasses mid-way through the flight, but he could barely make out the blurry forms of his friends down below, not to mention the huge expanse of the city around them. "W--wow. It's so beautiful up here--you really get a sense of how big the city is from so high up, huh?" He asked the flying bird. He seemed to relax his grip a little bit as they continued to fly before he tried to call down to Windy in particular. "T--This is REMARKABLE! Goodness, how do you take it all in?" |

Raziel was watching the whole thing go on with his head tilted slightly to the side; at first he'd been frowning but he slowly smiled as Malcom's terror melted away. The psychic knew that the aide was in no danger, but it was really hard to ignore the way the other man felt. Raz knew that no matter how much Windy trusted Nighthawk, he'd still have a problem with it. "He alright?" Steely had at least recovered from her giggle fit in time to see the huge bird take to the air with his kind-of-willing passenger. Raziel was squinting when Malcom realized he lost his glasses, and shook off the weird feeling. "He's fine, but he lost his glasses. That's... not great." Steely and Chaos looked at each other, and trying to be helpful, started scouring the ground to see if they'd been dropped during take-off. If not... well, they'd likely find Malcom's glasses in pieces. The massive black bird floated up past the buildings to where the sky started to open, and the last of the human buildings fell away. They were high up; their friends were nothing but ants below. Nighthawk was looking around when Malcom asked his question, and turned his head to nod obviously at the human. He noticed his passenger looking at the ground (surely Malcom would realize that they were just too high up to be heard), and gently turned to head towards the ground. The braviary's massive wings adjusted in tiny ways, letting the air spill out from his wings and tail to let them go lower and lower, to where they were finally low enough to conceivably yell at each other. Windy laughed when she heard Malcom, and cupped her hands to her mouth to boom back up at him, "Do it a lot!" Granted, she wasn't exactly sure what 'remarkable' meant, but given the awe in his yelling, she could kind of gather it. And a large chunk of the wonder had faded for her long ago, given that she was up in the air at least once a day, just about every day. Nighthawk was down in the buildings again, doing little circles in the wide street in front of the Lab. The tips of his wings brushed one of the buildings as he passed, looking over the reflective surface, then back at his passenger to see if he had any requests. |
