Kalen took a long drink from her steaming mug and sighed. "So you weren't kidding, were you?" She asked, pausing before sipping more of whatever was in it. Her companion rolled his eyes. "Why would I make something like that up? If I wanted to come up with a story, I could come up with thousands of more believable ones."

They were at a food court. Alex had borrowed a little money from Kalen and found something less tattered to wear in a local thrift store. He was dressed in a long blue coat with a wide brimmed hat. He still had his necker-chef with the white pokeball emblazoned on it but it hung loosely around his neck now. "Hey, extradimensional travel is not my area of expertise." Kalen retorted with a huff and another sip from her mug.
Alex shrugged. "So where to now, 'Your Worship'?"

She snorted. "Figure out the nearest town from here I guess. Plot a course and head there." Alex chuckled to himself. "You're the fearless leader. I'm just stuck following you."

She stuck out her tongue.

This area seemed to be popular for coffee shops and other eateries, coupled with other small and privately owned little stores. Steely couldn't remember what quarter of the city this was, but it was a pleasant enough place to come and think or read. The lightning lady was looking over this particular history book for the ninth or tenth time, flipping through the pages for the same chapter. This time, however, she wasn't really reading it.

(Given everything that's ever happened to me, the idea of my ancestors being from this place doesn't really surprise me, but I still kind of don't want to believe it. Maybe for the implications, if nothing else... because given the way this one here has been treating me, the more people who believe in it, the more weird things are going to get,) Steely thought, looking across the table at her newest friend. Elora looked human right now; short, straight blonde hair that was more actual yellow, tucked under a blue bandana, wearing a loose tank top and loose cotton shorts. The baggy nature of her clothing was completely intentional, since she needed to get it off quickly at times.

Elora was a shapeshifter. A pokemorph, or a were-mon as they were sometimes called. Steely had thought the werewolf thing was cool enough, though a pokemorph could be any non-legendary species. In this case, it was even better since Elora was a manectric.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Steely jumped a little, not realizing she'd been staring while spacing out. "Ah, what? No, sorry, just thinking," she explained, looking back down at the book. This particular section was about Brandon the Bear, one of the last of the Cerberus family alive before the Cataclysm struck and they were wiped from history. "Thinking too much," she closed the book.

Elora went back to devouring her lunch without a care in the world. Steely suddenly realized that she kind of envied her. From as much as Steely could tell, the were-mon had a fairly simple and straightforward life. Steely hadn't been able to say the same for... well, come to think of it, never.

(And to think, I was nearly free of all it, if Apollo hadn't gone and fucked it up,) the thought came to her suddenly, and she slouched a little with a sigh, looking around. There was any great number of more pressing issues she should have been thinking of, like getting her friends out of Natura and back to Opaddeka, but at the moment she couldn't help but to think just about how much she really still hated herself.

(...wait a second.)

Elora looked up when Steely stood suddenly, and started limping across the courtyard. She remembered Malcom mentioning something about Alex showing up here, but she hadn't completely believed it until just now, having spotted him across the way. He was with a girl that Steely didn't recognize, but Alex was friendly enough, it didn't surprise her that he'd made a friend.

"You know," she said, coming up behind him and leaning against his chair with the hand that wasn't using her cane, "I'd heard you were here, but I wasn't sure how to find you."

Alex started with a yelp. "Wha--STEEL? How'--You know what? I'm not going to ask. This gets weirder and weirder by the minute." Alex hopped out of his seat and gave her a hug, willing or not. "I guess word travels quickly. After that massive fuck-up back home, everything exploded forever and when I woke up, I was in her laundry room." He gestured at his lunch companion.

Kalen had a very irritated look about her. "Well aren't you just the popular one?" She said. "Oh don't be an ass. This is my friend, Steel. She's from my world." Kalen's eyebrows perked up. "Really now? And here I thought you hid in my laundry room to avoid paying off a female escort of something." Alex shot her a look. "Of course not. She's...a partner of sorts. Mutual goals or something of the like."

"Kalen Black. Pleasure." Kalen nodded at Steel curtly clearly not intent on being friendly just yet. She rested her arms, folded on the table, her eyes taking in Steel's figure, every inch of it. Alex winced internally. "Kalen is stiff-arming me into mentoring her. I suppose I did break her washer. She's a rookie trainer. Oh. That reminds me." His expression grew serious. "Steel, they followed me here. The...you know. And I wager -she- is with them." His voice dropped low and his stance tense. "Worst of it, is I only have Ruby. So I don't have any backup."

"Heh, no kidding," Steely chuckled, since she could definitely agree with weird. Alex had no way of knowing about most of Steely's other friends also being unceremoniously dropped onto Natura too... Steely was starting to wonder if it had something to do with her. But that was silly, right? Right???

Right as Alex reached to hug her, she froze up and went stiff, her stance faltering a little. Likely to his surprise though, she brought both arms up to hug him back, giving him a good bear hug like squeeze. When she pulled away, she shook her head at him but was smiling all the same. Anything she may have said was stopped by Kalen speaking up. She blinked at the other girl, looking surprised and a bit hurt at the hostility, though the look quickly left when she shook her head, looking abruptly grouchy. That grouchiness turned into grumpy posturing, squaring her shoulders and puffing up. Despite trying to look threatening, she was still using a cane.

She looked back at Alex when he mentioned The Situation they'd been in before, but didn't say anything about it quite yet, her expression going back to at least something that wasn't angry. It didn't last long, though. The blonde looked away from Alex without saying anything, suddenly scowling at Kalen.

"The fuck is your damage?" Kat growled. Fortunately, at least Alex knew about the whole 'two people in one body' thing. What a conversation that had been.

"Steely and Katrina Cerberus, at your service. Or not, because I'm totally not above punching a girl if you keep up your tauros shit," She growled. Her voice had dropped a little, barely perceivable, but it was still there. The defensive posture returned, and instead of using her cane she had actually flipped it up so it could be a whacking stick now.

And there it was. Alex flinched visibly, and with a practiced look, silenced Kalen's opening mouth with a glare. "We" He emphasized this. "Have been friends for nearly 6 or 7 years. She's saved my life more than once." Kalen didn't look entirely mollified, but changed her tactic, realizing that her argument would soon turn into a two-on-one. "She saved your life? From what?" She didn't give Steel, or Katrina or whomever this was another look, glaring coolly at Alex now.

"Remember those jerks from the lab? Well, I've been hunting them and vice versa for a long time. I uh, lost a very good friend to them." He added, barely above a whisper. "Anyway, they've always been digging around with space-time nonsense. They used to want me to lure out my dad, to find Celebi. Well that backfired, so now they're going for the source of Mega Evolution, to use as some sort of global take-over catalyst, which also backfired and blew me here. With you." He crossed his arms. "Now stop picking fights with people who may end up saving your tail more than once, got it?"

Kalen could feel her ears stinging, and her temper flaring, with no discernible reason why. Something about this crazy woman just made her entirely uncomfortable. In fact, this entire situation made her uncomfortable. "Hmph." She crossed her arms and pouted. That was the best this boy was going to get. Alex rolled his eyes. "Uh-huh. Anyway. Steel, stay sharp, yeah? If they find out, you'll be a target again. I need to find Max, I'm putting at stop to this now, and I'm getting back home."

Kalen felt her ears go red again, but she had the decency to remain silent, adjusting her glasses.

Kat, still in full control, looked like she was completely ready to make good on her threat. The grouchier half actually really liked this Alex, and didn't appreciate the way this new kid was glaring at him. Alex's lecture seemed to get Kalen to sit down and shut up, which was good at least.

(Still don't appreciate her 'holier than thou' attitude, but whatever,) Kat glared at Kalen for a second, until Alex got their attention again. Over the course of what he was saying, her expression went back to more Steely-like, though she was still frowning a little.

"...you do realize that after telling me all that, I'm going to help you, right?" she looked around until she spotted a vacant chair, and sank down into it stiffly. "Dunno how much help I'll be these days, but I owe Max a punch in the face, regardless."

Steely didn't notice her lunch partner in the background watching them, still chewing on the last bit of sandwich. With her mouth still stuffed, the yellow-haried blonde reached up and pulled her scarf down around her neck, ducking under the table where she'd be less obvious.

"I'm not sure if you both want to follow us around, we don't exactly have any leads you know. It's a big wide world, and I know virtually nothing about it." He sighed and scratched his chin, focusing on Kalen for a second. "This is a serious thing. You sure you want to follow me around?"

Kalen had to pause for a minute. Things had gotten serious, for sure. Did she really want to travel with this clearly ill-tempered blonde? Was it worth risking her life for someone elses fight? Then she looked at Alex and sighed inwardly. He was so stupid. Charming, but stupid. Of course she had to see where he ended up. "Duh?" She said, as if it were obvious.
"Fine. But I'm still not sure where we're going..." He glanced back at Steel. "Do you have any idea where we could go anyway, Steel? I could use a refill on supplies and nonsense like that. I didn't bring anything with me."

"At least for a little while, I don't have much else going on for me right now. It'll be good for me to get some breathing room for a little while anyway," Steely shrugged while she said it, one elbow resting on the table with her palm up. She couldn't exactly remember how she'd snuck away today, but it didn't really matter. She was tired of being treated like-

While Kalen and Alex were talking, Steely looked at Alex like she was seeing him for the first time. (I don't think Alex knows.)

(I don't think he does either.)

Steely felt a sudden relief that she couldn't really explain, but didn't have time to dwell on it too long. "Uh..." she set the hook of her cane over the back of the chair and rested both arms on the table to think. "To be honest, I don't have much in the way of supplies anymore either. I could give you what I have... Oh, have you gotten a secret base yet? It's like a little... mobile electronic-pocket dimension bedroom... thingy. It's hard to explain, but being from another world like you are, you can get one for free."

At about this point, a manectric wandered over, a blue bandana around her neck and a small bag strapped tight to her side. She laid down next to them and rested her head on Steely's leg; without even looking like she noticed, Steely started scratching the pokemon on her pointed head ruff. "As far as where to find Team Assbutt... Mega Stones are super fucking rare here. Like, nobody knows where to find them kind of rare. Or if anyone knows, they're not telling... same thing with the Key Stones."

Alex opened his mouth but Kalen beat him to it. "Oh yeah, I've heard of those things. Always wondered how they worked, but they certainly seem handy. I guess they don't have them where you guys are from?" It was posed as a statement but it sounded more like am incredulous question. Apparently Opaddeka was full of backwater bumpkins. Alex shrugged. "Would've been useful. I spend literally two years wandering the jungle with my dad. Arceus knows I would've loved to have a roof back then..." He sighed, reminiscing. "Alright. So. We've got ourselves a crew...But where to?"

Kalen had pushed some buttons on her Pokebrace and pulled up a large holographic map, which she tapped to enlarge. "So I'm assuming you guys haven't heard of the Pokemon Circuit either." She didn't wait for confirmation and continued. "It's a tournament styled competition where you compete with other teams for the title of best in the region. Each region has it's own championships, and the Grand Championship is held here at the end of the year. I was going to travel to Greencourt to enter, most major hubs hold the competition. I guess that's a place we could start...It's through the jungle though."

At the word 'jungle' Alex groaned. "Seriously? Well...I don't have any alternatives..." He hung his head, clearly disappointed. "So about that little...machine thing. Where did you say I could get one, Steel? You know my sense of direction is pretty poor." He crossed his arms, playing with the metal band on his wrist that housed his keystone. "Rare huh? Well, I'm glad I still have mine."

Steely was still scritch-scritching the manectric without much thought to it, but eventually realized something was different and looked down. Her hand jerked away with realization, and Steely glanced to the empty table they'd been sitting at, then back to her furry friend.

"Really?" she hissed while Kalen was talking, not listening to the other two. The manectric whined and nudged Steely's hand again until the blonde got the hint and went back to scratching. "You're impossible."

She looked up Alex when she heard her name, "You'll have to go over to the AgrariTech building and... basically ask for one, they give them out to people from other worlds. Seems like people from Natura have to pay for them, but they're not expensive."

Steely shrugged, trying to recall what they'd been saying before. Something about a tournament or something?
