Uh, yeah, IDK. Just doing a thing. People are welcome. Preferably people that do not have prior histories with these characters, is about all I really care. “Man, this place is absolutely enormous. And I'd thought Brightopolis was big.” The pokemon turned in a slow circle, crimson eyes flicking from building to building in a sort of bemused awe. “Yeah, easy to get lost in, that's for sure.” Not that Kate seemed at all put out by the notion. If anything, the wiry blonde seemed to relish the idea of having to search for everything. “Your master's still a coward for not wanting to come with us.” The lucario accompanying her lashed his tail, ears slicking back as he growled, aura voice projecting a little louder in irritation. “He's not my master.” A pause. “Nor a coward, for that matter.” “I see you have your priorities straight. Partner, then. Better?” Kate grinned over her shoulder and the fighting type huffed softly. “If you must. But for not coming along, I don't really blame him myself. There's a lot of auras around here to deal with. Ben's never been the best at filtering.” Anubis rubbed a paw across his muzzle, ears flicking back and forth rapidly for a moment or two. “Place like this could get overwhelming quick in that sort of situation.” “Are you saying he couldn't handle it?” Kate planted her hands on her hips and turned to face her traveling companion with a challenging gleam in her eye. “No, he probably could.” Anubis folded his paws over his chest and met her gaze squarely. “However, if you knew something was going to give you a migraine if you did it, would you want to do it if you didn't absolutely have to?” The blonde tilted her head as she mulled that over, then shrugged, dropping her hands to her sides again. “...touche. I'll let it slide for now, I suppose.” And with that, Kate turned her attention back to the plaza they were standing in, looking around with interest. “Still doesn't excuse him for siccing you on me as a babysitter, so I'll get him for that later at the least.” Kate tapped the canine's nose lightly before turning her attention toward the city itself with a smile. Anubis sneezed and hopped back, growling irritably again. “I thought it was more as a proxy, not as an escort. You're the one that was complaining about not being able to find each other later.” “That was supposed to get him to come into the city with me, but he's too stubborn for his own good sometimes.” “So are you.” “Maybe, maybe not!” Kate didn't seem bothered by the counterthrust. “Babysitter, escort, proxy, I still don't think it's really going to mean he doesn't have to come into town in the end. But for now... let's get to the fun part.” She grinned as she studied a particularly picturesque candy store window and waited. “You're just waiting for me to ask what 'the fun part' is, aren't you?” The lucario finally spoke up with a trace of impatience. “Well, I'm not going to, so there. And you're enjoying this entirely too much.” Kate laughed. “Maaaaybe.” She picked a street at random and set off at a very brisk walk, leaving Anubis to bound after her so as not to lose her in the crowd. “Don't tell me. You actually like being lost, don't you?” the lucario sighed. “Sure, I won't tell you!” The pokemon facefaulted at the laughing reply. “By Arceus, I swear...” He could only pray that the lab didn't prove too hard to find. For all of the technological advances within the city of Natura Central, there was definitely something appealing about the feel of actual, real books and text. Especially since a lot of the information in certain books had not yet been added to the vast databanks of the Pokemon Laboratory, where Professor Hawthorne and her Aides worked, causing the current situation to unfold before the eyes on onlookers. Malcom Tian, one of the more enthusiastic of Hawthorne's aides, was carrying a practical tower of books in his rather unassuming arms, trying to carefully transport the books from a few of the various libraries to the Lab, where he would (painstakingly) work on transcribing the information within the books into the computers where he worked, which would make the information more accessable and consolidated where it needed to be--snippets of ancient lore about Mega-Evolutions, old observations about particular types of Pokemon, peculiar factoids, that kind of thing. However, his zealous attention to detail and overbearing enthusiasm for all things scientific had caused him to probably grab a few too many books than he could handle. With each step he took, the mountain of texts he carried seemed to teeter and sway in one direction or another, causing the young aide to had to shift and adjust constantly, causing each moment of progress towards the lab to be subsequently followed with a few seconds of panicked adjustment and wild steps until the tower stabilized itself in his grasp. And the process repeated as he tried to walk down the lane that led from the libraries to his place of business--that is, until, an outside force acted upon this precarious situation: other people. Navigating around people was not that big of a deal initially--he was, after all, hard to miss by most people walking around, but the busier the street got, the more and more inevitable bumps and brushes became, causing Malcom to not only make slower progress due to his overabundance of politeness, but additionally he had to constantly adjust his stack of tomes to prevent them from toppling over, which would make just a mess of things. Unfortunately, fate was tempted one too many times, as one misstep caused Malcom to fall flat on his face, glasses and books and all, causing quite the ruckus as Kate rounded a corner, just in time to see the disastrous spectacle of fallen limbs and toppling pages. "Ugh... Oh dear..." Malcom said as he sat up from his fallen position, adjusting his glasses and heaving a sigh of embarressment. "Not again..." |

"I mean seriously, how can you enjoy... whoops!" Anubis broke off his complaining to suddenly dart past Kate and round a corner at high speed. The aid's sudden flare of distress was kind of like a flame if one considered the aura pokemon to be a moth, really. The blonde blinked and darted around the corner after her traveling companion and stopped dead to survey the sight. Several books fluttered wildly, like birds failing horribly in their attempt to fly. Anubis darted expertly through the crowd and caught a couple of the thicker tomes out of the air easily. The woman surveyed the scene for a moment or two more, resisting a momentary urge to plant her hands on her hips again as she did so. However, the books weren't enough for the most part to cause any serious damage, and their utter lack of any aerodynamic qualities at all also made them easy to avoid. So the only person potentially injured in any major way would be the fellow sprawled all over the sidewalk and most likely the source of the chaos. As the lucario bounded around and collected the tomes, Kate moved over to where Malcom was picking himself up and looked him over with some amused concern. The fact he was getting up as quickly - and embarrassedly - as he was probably meant he was okay, though the nurse in her couldn't help but check anyways. "Well, I don't think anything's broken or even badly bruised, except maybe pride." The sun caught her ponytailed hair and turned it more copper than blonde as she tilted her head inquiringly. "Need a hand up there, feller-me-lad?" Without waiting for the answer, one was proffered as she stood back up. "I don't think there's a question of needing such unless we want another lesson in why books can't fly," Anubis piped up as he set a stack of books down by the first he'd already gathered up. His aura voice was pitched so that anyone nearby could hear and understand it clearly. "Even I'd have difficulty balancing this many books and wandering through a crowd." The lucario paused, eyeing Malcom a moment, then adding, "Unless this is one of those social experiments where people actively do this sort of thing to test how nice people in the vicinity are..." The pokemon didn't sound suspicious or put out, accepting a few books that some of the others in the crowd had collected with a nod of thanks. Edited by Darth Eevee, Jan 31 2015, 02:40 PM.

Malcom was rather surprised when a Pokemon--a Lucario, of all things--and a strange woman appeared, immediately offering assistance as if it were their day job. Malcom managed a smile and accepted her help in getting up, the aide a little wobbly on the stick-for-limbs he had. "M--My thanks, miss! I must have tripped over something..." He said, the last phrase she used rather foreign to him--fellow-me-lad? That was an odd turn of phrase. The young aide was about to speak up when, suddenly, another voice filled his head, forcing Malcom to whip his head around to find the source of the voice. "Who--who is speaking?" He said almost under his breath before his eyes fell towards the Lucario. "A--Ah! A rare priviledge!" He said, adjusting his glasses as he kneeled down to look at the Lucario. "I've always heard Lucario were capable of speech, but I haven't met one before--what a pleasure to meet you both!" He said, the fallen books almost completely forgotten to his mind as he looked at the Lucario for a moment, marvelling at its ability to communicate, before common sense grasped him again. "O--oh! M--my apologies, miss! My name is Malcom Tian, professor's aide. Thank you for your assistance," he said before he started to help pick up some of the fallen books. "Might I ask your name? I don't think we've met before." |

There are much worse day jobs out there, I must admit. "Hi!" Anubis piped up with a wave of his paw as Malcom looked around wildly when he spoke up, in answer to the quiet question, then preened under the attention as the blonde rolled her eyes. "Eh, we're not the only ones that can pull it off, I suppose. But if I do say so, we're one of the ones best at Aura speech..." "Modest as ever." Kate shook her head at her traveling companion and took a few of the books as Anubis picked up the largest stack and stuck his tongue out at her. "Professor's aide, huh? That sounds like it might mean that furface over there can stop griping at me so much, at least. Name's Kate. Katelyn Summers, but call me Kate. Registered Nurse for humans or pokemon, I suppose, though goodness knows if my credentials count here." She smiled brightly. "He's Anubis, though I do recommend against worshipping him. His head's already big enough, if you hadn't noticed." "Hey, that's..!" the lucario yelped, starting to turn to give Kate an evil eye. However, he was almost immediately distracted by steadying his book stack as it swayed precariously from his injudicious movements. "Entirely accurate?" Kate smirked. "Seriously though, Mister Tian, we were looking for the Pokemon Lab, as it turns out. I'd been having fun exploring, but someone doesn't have any spirit of adventure." "Hpmh." Anubis stuck his snout in the air and started to march off, then stopped, ears flattening in embarrassment as he realized abruptly that he had no idea where these books were going still. "Uh, where are we taking these, anyhow?" Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 1 2015, 05:57 PM.

"B--but such Pokemon are rather rare to see in these parts of the world, Miss Kate," he said, more to explain his demeanor towards Anubis than anything else. "A Pokemon that can communicate as well as he can could be a big help in research matters..." he explained for a moment before he realized that almost all of the books were recovered, the three of them more or less sharing the load between them. "A--ah, I forget myself. Please, let us transport these books to the Pokemon laboratory and relax properly--I can even offer some refreshments there, if you'd like," he offered as he bowed his head--causing him to panic for a moment and keep his own stack from falling over--before he led the way to the massive laboratory that was nestled on the edge of the Azure quarter. "I am curious what we at the lab can do for you and your companion, Miss Kate," he asked as he led the way. |

Kate snorted. "Still doesn't mean you should worship the ground he walks on, but I suppose you do have a point." Her expression was a little thoughtful as she spoke, however, and just listened quietly as he explained a little more. If something like Anubis was so unusual, that certainly put a new spin on things. Did they just not have a lot of pokemon that had the means to communicate in the area, or was it evolved pokemon in general as well? Good question. She decided to keep her own pokemon in their pokeballs for the moment, either way. Sassy and Stallone might take the reverence as their due, but there was no need to feed their egos if it was the case. Anubis she couldn't do much about and wasn't her problem anyway. Though if pokemon were uncommon around here, Kate was looking forward to seeing the fallout from her dear cousin's one companion. "Hmmm?" Kate tilted her head at Malcom's question, while Anubis trailed the two of them, looking sulky. "Oh, just thought I'd give actually being a trainer, or at least registering properly, a go. And I admit we were kind of hoping you might know where we'd go to pick a poketech, or something like that, up." Kate frowned a little as she glanced over her shoulder at the lucario, as if debating something, but kept quiet for now. Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 1 2015, 06:41 PM.

"P-pardon me, miss," the aide apologized. "While Pokemon are rather common in the city, Pokemon such as Anubis are rather on the rare side--especially one that can speak!" He said, basically trying to make excuses to keep worshipping the Pokemon companion. "Oh, a prospective trainer? Excellent! At the lab, we can outfit you with various gear and essentials for starting your journey, such as a Pokedex and a PokeBrace," he informed her, gesturing towards the computer-like devide upon his left arm. |

Kate considered Malcom and his protests, and decided against continuing to protest. "Well, I certianly wouldn't mind getting offerings, sirloin by preference," Anubis spoke up again at last, ears pricking up a little at the possibilities provided by a person interested in worshipping the ground he walked on. It was a novel experience, to say the least. Kate rolled her eyes at the lucario and turned her attention instead to the gauntlet being mentioned, a weather eye kept on Malcom's book stack to make sure his gestures didn't disrupt it too much. "A pokebrace, you say? Haven't ever heard of one of those. Pokedex, sure, but what's that thing able to do?" She rather figured that all she had to do was that and this fellow would be more than happy to give a full-blown explanation and even possibly a demonstration of what his thing was able to do. And then a new problem suddenly occurred to her. "They very expensive?" She suddenly had a funny feeling this place wasn't going to take Zenni, which meand her and her cousin were probably quite literally broke at the moment. Which was another problem that they were going to have to figure out how to solve in the near future. Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 7 2015, 11:46 AM.

Malcom chuckled a little bit at the comment Anubis made. Maybe he should find something to feed the Pokemon since it had a voice to express preference... "Oh, the PokeBrace? It is a miniature computer--it can store data, organize your lifestyle, make calls to your friends and loved ones, but the most important aspect of the PokeBrace is the fact that it transmits data to our lab. Essentially, the PokeBrace extracts data from your PokeDex and various places you have been to and sends it to our lab so we can process and analyze the information--after all, information is very important in order to understand the world we live in! So trainers such as yourself fulfill a very important task for us researchers," he said, smiling over at the new trainer. "Don't worry about cost--we give out PokeBraces and PokeDexes to trainers for free. They're made from relatively cheap parts so they're easy to acquire and repair, if needed. If you're worried about funds in general though, there are a few tasks you can do for the lab that we can pay you for," he said as they finally neared the massive structure that was the Pokemon Laboratory. Inside, the place was filled with laboratory equipment, computers, mountains of files, as well as a resting area, cafeteria, and nursery. The place seemed very well-equipped! |

"Reeeally, now?" She drew the first word out, casting interested glances at the gauntlet as they continued on. "So the two come as a set, then?" Kate frowned at it a little, then quickly looked up to make sure she wasn't going to run into anyone herself. "Is there a reason the two aren't just one unit or something?" She sounded genuinely curious and interested in the workings of the things, really. Anubis looked a lot more cheerful at the fact that he'd gotten a chuckle out of Malcom than anything, tail swishing a bit as he surveyed the building they were fast approaching. "I'm guessing you keep a lot more than just books in there..." he commented after a moment, but followed the humans inside meekly enough. Kate looked around with a thoughtful expression, gaze lingering on the nursery in particular, mulling over his earlier suggestion of working for the lab some to get some cash. "And I suppose if you have a use for someone with a fair bit of medical care knowledge, I can see what I could do for you at some point, but I don't know if we'll be sticking in town at the moment for overly long." "Yeah, we're kinda looking for someone. Don't happen to know if a pretty redhead with green eyes came around town any time recently, do you?" Anubis piped up, dropping his books on the nearest flat surface, nose pointed in the general direction of the cafeteria at all times with a sort of hopeful expression. |

"Well, the problem is that, if we try to combine both functions of the PokeDex and the PokeBrace, the mechanism would be a little too bulky, is the issue. Additionally, it allows the trainer to operate both with separate hands--at least, that was what I was told. There might be other reasons why they aren't the same device," he said thoughtfully for a moment, nearly knocking his stack of books into a pillar, but he managed to catch himself all the same. He blinked down at Anubis at his comment, causing the researcher to pause for a moment before setting down his own stack of books. "No, I don't think I've seen anyone of that description before--then again, I don't think I've met a lot of folks with green eyes..." He said, trying to wrack his brain for who he might have met that matched that description. "Friend of yours?" |

"Huh, makes sense, at that." Kate nodded a little at Malcom's reply to her question, putting her books down as well and turning her attention more to the device in question to check it out now that they weren't on the move while Anubis and the aide spoke. Anubis turned his muzzle away from the cafeteria smells almost reluctantly, ducking his head and rubbing the back of his neck with a paw a bit self consciously. Kate smirked as she watched the gesture, because it was most likely picked up from her cousin. "Eeeeh, I guess you could say that..." he muttered after a moment or two, ears slicking back unhappily. "I figure you'd probably remember her if you'd met her, though, so probably not. Thanks for answering anyways. Figured it was a long shot..." The lucario managed to keep from sounding disappointed as he spoke, though the way his tail drooped a bit and the fact that he wouldn't look straight at Malcom might be a bit of a giveaway. "She's a good friend, though more than that to some. We're not even sure if she's... here, Mister Tian." Kate hesitated on how to phrase things for the moment, then decided against bringing up the dimensional shenanigans just yet. "Another reason we kind of wanted to look into things like that Pokebrace. Mind explaining how they work and so on?" she added, tilting her head. Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 7 2015, 03:17 PM.

"Oh, well, of course! It's my job--sort of--to explain the technology," he said, positively beaming with the chance to explain things to a new acquaintance. He held up the PokeBrace on his arm, just to let the other two see it more clearly, before he pushed a few buttons on it. "The PokeBrace acts like any other computer--you log into it and access its virtual desktop. From there, you can press upon any application that is on the desktop without issue--it will boot up the requisite program rather quickly. As you can see, I have a phone application--standard on all PokeBraces--but it also has an electronic mail system, a PokeDex interface in case you want to fine tune the information your PokeDex gives you, as well as access all data it has accumulated so far, a notepad, an address book, a calendar with all the important dates upon it--so, more or less, its like any other computer. So what makes the PokeBrace so great, you're probably asking yourself," he said, a sly smirk crossing his lips as he readjusted his glasses. He then pushed upon a large, green button upon the PokeBrace, the device suddenly projecting a holographic image of a bird Pokemon--a Pidgey--directly in front of the researcher. "The PokeBrace can three-dimensionally image almost anything you come across, as well as displaying pictures and information you have personally gathered or downloaded. The maps your PokeBrace will have can also be projected in three-dimensions, allowing you to navigate known areas with greater accuracy. Of course, if there's no known maps of an area, you're out of luck, but--!" He said before tapping the side of his PokeBrace, "the PokeBrace will dynamically map unknown areas you're exploring for us--or for your own curiosity--so you can reference it at any time!" |

Well, he was easily distracted, or naturally oblivious. Kate wasn't going to complain too much about not getting asked too many questions she wasn't sure how to answer. So instead, she watched with quiet interest as he explained the various functions of the Pokebrace, nodding a little to herself. All in all, it seemed to be shaping up to be a Poketech, but possibly without the VR access. Anubis moved right up beside Malcom to peer at the screen interface curiously, backing off if the sudden proximity bothered the aid. Kate's brow rose slightly and she folded her arms across her chest as Malcom put forth the not-quite-question of what made this thing special. She wasn't going to ask, but it wasn't like she needed to. Her other eyebrow joined the first as the holographic image shimmered to life. Anubis made a bit of a face as he glanced at it, disconcerted as always by the appearance of something that looked alive but had no aura. He turned his nose back to studying the screen with a thoughtful expression in his eyes. "And these things are free." Kate glanced from holographic bird, to Malcom, and back. "Holoprojectors, a dynamic scanner, some sort of wifi good enough to work no matter how far into the hinterlands you go, and one must presume terabytes of storage to hold all that data... and it's cheap, easily made and free to distribute to prospective trainers. Miracles never cease, do they?" She sounded mildly impressed. Mostly with the 'free' part, though. |

"Well, there are limitations. For the most part, a PokeBrace's signal is only strong enough when in populated areas--like towns and the like--and since the amount of data collected by a PokeDex can be rather extensive, it requires a rather strong connection, usually while you're inside a Pokemon Center or Mart. But that's only for transmitting data straight back to the lab here--for regular data access, it should work in most other regions, except for the really remote regions. So its a good practice to download what you need before you go out and adventure, but don't worry--like I said, PokeBraces are typically pre-loaded with a variety of data and information readily available," he explained, looking a bit more sheepish when talking about the device's limitations. But still, it was an impressive piece of hardware. "Like I said, we distribute these to all of the trainers that come and go through our lab here--it is very important that trainers seeking to strike out on their own in the wild world to be as well equipped as possible. Speaking of which," he said before retrieving a backpack and a large box from a nearby file cabinet, opening them both up. "These are for you. Inside, you will find six PokeBalls, used for capturing Pokemon, a few potions and survival gear, a rope, a sleeping bag, and a few other essentials needed for traveling in the wilderness. These items are a bit more expensive to acquire, unfortunately, so you'll have to rely on yourself for restocking items or obtaining more equipment--but we've covered the essentials all the same." |

"Ah, so they aren't completely infallible. Good to know they aren't too good to be true," Kate said with an amused chuckle as Malcom clarified. "I suppose they pay for themselves in all the data you get that you don't have to go out and gather yourselves, is how it works. Outside of trainer safety and the like, which is always a good motive." Made sense to her, anyhow. However, when he pulled the backpack out and opened it up, she blinked a couple times at the full list of what was apparently in there that they were giving her. "That's... more than I expected to get, honestly. Thank you," she said, quite sincerely, after a short pause. Now she really felt like she owed this place at least some of her time and expertise. "Once we've gotten our business dealt with, I'd be more than happy to help out here for a while, anyhow, in appreciation of all this. It seems like a very worthwhile effort in general." The blonde moved over to beside Malcom to peer into the backpack and box with interest, smiling at him appreciatively. Anubis hung back a little bit while the supplies were being gotten around, shuffling his paws uncertainly. He looked ready to say something more than once, but seemed to not be sure what to say, or if he should speak up at any point. The lucario didn't want to interrupt, but did have a few questions. And no idea how to phrase them. Why did he have to be the one that got sent along on things like this? Isis was so much better with words... But worse with strange people. He sighed and turned to poke his nose into some of the machinery while the two humans got all the stuff set up for Kate. |

Malcom nodded with a sincere smile. "Of course, miss Kate! We could always use a few extra hands to help out once in awhile, especially with caring for injured pokemon or helping out in the nursery. Sometimes, the Pokemon in our care can be a little..." he said, throwing a nervous glance in the direction of the nursery, "...rowdy at times." He turned his attention back towards the woman and her Pokemon, when he noticed the Lucario trying to enter the conversation. "Ah, yes? Was there something you wanted to know?" He asked, giving the Lucario his undivided attention, as if he was about to hang on this Pokemon's every word. He truly was rather fascinating! |

Anubis was more trying not to enter the conversation and be rude, but it was true that he did have some stuff he'd wanted to ask at some point. Still, he hadn't expected suddenly getting all the attention turned to him. The pokemon jerked his paws back like a kid getting caught with hands in the cookie jar from some particularly button-laden device nearby, backing up and coughing, ears flattening against his skull. Kate smirked slightly and buried her face in the box and bag, checking over the pockets and supplies and storage space with interest, not about to help the lucario out. "Oh, well, um, I guess, yes. Maybe. I... that is..." Anubis shifted his weight back and forth, nearly sticking his paws behind his back before catching himself and reaching up to play with the pretty little silver bell hanging around his neck. It chimed soothingly and he took a deep breath, glancing over at Malcom with a abashed, almost guilty expression. Meeting that attentive, interested, and not quite worshipful expression did not help his peace of mind, however. While it was all well and good to joke about being treated like a god, Anubis was quickly realizing that he wasn't sure he'd be comfortable with the full-blown reality. Even if this wasn't quite that far, it was a little disconcerting to have someone's full, undivided attention like this. "Um, I... well, not me exactly, but I'm kind of here for someone and they were wondering about some stuff but..." "Take a deep breath and calm down, boyo. It helps." Kate chuckled as she glanced over. "I'm sure Mister Tian won't bite." The lucario slicked his ears back and glowered at the blonde. "I wasn't asking you." "You haven't asked anyone anything yet," she pointed out calmly. "I was about to!" the lucario yelped, then seemed to realize she was baiting him and huffed. "Oh, whatever, you. So, um, Mister Tian, sir, about those braces and the like. Do people have to come here in person to get them or can they be delivered or something somewhere else? And... well," he scratched behind one flattened ear embarrasedly. "Can they be... well, customized or anything? I mean... what if someone can't actually use a normal computer or the like?" The last came out almost in a rush as he turned his gaze up to the ceiling. |

Malcom was silent for a long moment, looking at Anubis, before the researcher gave the Pokemon a big smile. "That wouldn't be a problem at all, Anubis," he said before chuckling a little. "If someone can't make it to the lab, we are always more than happy to deliver a PokeDex and PokeBrace--along with all the standard equipment and gear--to someone's home or have someone deliver it in their stead," he explained, not really sure why such a thing would be a problem. Was the lab supposed to be that suspicious of other people? It didn't seem sensible--after all, none of the equipment that was given out could reasonably hurt someone, it was all designed to help the trainer in their adventures. He held up a finger though. "The only thing we can't do is deliver Pokemon. Its very important that the trainer be here to select their first companion while present, just so that the nursery workers have a peace of mind as to the compatibility between trainer and companion, if that makes sense," he said with a serious nod before he looked distracted by something. "As for customizing the equipment, that shouldn't be a problem--after all, we understand some people have different preferences. Just let us know the specifications, and we can make anything happen," he said with a proud smile. Without missing a beat, he immediately turned towards Miss Kate and pointed a finger towards her. "Which reminds me! You should select a Pokemon Companion for yourself, since you're just starting your own journey! We have an incredibly large selection of Pokemon for you to choose from, some of them recently born as well!" |

The lucario, if anything seemed to wither a little at the long moment of silence and had even braced himself to say something when Malcom suddenly smiled and spoke up. "Oh, well that's..." he began, before Kate cut him off. "Well, damn." Kate couldn't suppress her disappointed comment. "And here I was all hoping my cousin would have to come to town to get that thing. He's got to get over that whole 'uncomfortable around large crowds' issue somehow and avoiding it isn't the answer." She didn't seem to be specifically speaking to pokemon or assisstant, but more venting. She turned to Malcom and smiled apologetically as soon as she finished, however. "It's nothing personal, he's just turning into a hermit, I think." Anubis stuck his tongue out at her and turned toward Malcom, hesitating a few moments as he tried to figure out a polite way to word the request of 'My trainer happens to be blind so yeah, that needs addressed in his stuff.' Kate, for her part, simply fell silent to let Malcom finish his speech, out of a feeling of politeness, though she blinked a few times at his sudden turn to her and offering a starting pokemon. That she hadn't exactly expected, but quickly realized that it probably would be a good idea. "I had been kind of figuring on making do, but that probably would be best... all my current pokemon are mostly healers or housepets." And the lure of a starting pokemon wouldn't attract her cousin in. If he didn't have to come to get the brace or get it customized, he wasn't going to come in. What with all the pokemon he already had on him... Kate suddenly smiled mischievously. "And as for my dear cousin, I don't really think he needs a starting pokemon. He's been a trainer for years and besides having furface there, he's actually faced down Arceus itself less than a year ago to get an avatar." If that wouldn't get these people to get her cousin into this city to see it for themselves, nothing would. And she owed him and that arrogant little avatar of his for dumping her on this planet anyhow. Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 14 2015, 11:35 AM.

Malcom made a thoughtful sound for a moment as he listened to Kate's explanation about her cousin. "I can see why--Natura Central is the largest city in our world, as far as I know, so the crowds can be rather intimidating at times. If he wishes, we can arrange for teleportation to be utilized to bring him directly here, though that can be a little expensive--the amount of power needed can be quite intense for teleportation, not to mention the lingering disorientation. That being said, I'm sure we can accommodate him if he is shy around a large gathering of people," he said with a soft, comforting smile to the both of them. "And don't worry--we have a wide variety of Pokemon to choose from! Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle... the list goes on and on. We even have a litter of newly-born Zubats as well, if you're interested in that," he said, trying to make sure that she knew her options were quite open at the moment. However, when she mentioned that her cousin did battle against Arceus and obtained an avatar of the God-Like Pokemon, there was COMPLETE. DEAD. SILENCE. in the room, as every employee in the lab seemed to turn to stare towards Kate and Anubis--save for the desk receptionist at the front, who was too occupied with her chewing gum and drying nail polish. Malcom was the first to speak up. "S--surely, you are mistaken! No one has ever succeeded in battling against Arceus before--and to acquire an avatar... Your cousin must be quite the potent and powerful trainer! We should invite him here at once!" Malcom said, as if the prospect of meeting this mysterious trainer was now the most intensely fascinating thing in the whole universe--a chance to actually meet such a potent trainer and study an avatar of a God... this would be the research prospect of the century! He had to find a way to bring her cousin here, somehow! |

Gotcha. Kate's expression didn't waver much, though she did survey the entire room at the sudden silence, taking in the fact that everyone was staring at her and Anubis now. The lucario had gone completely rigid at her casual pronouncement, then slicked his ears back and glared at her. She could tell he was putting a fair bit of effort into keeping his lip from curling up in a snarl at her, himself, at this point. Quite clearly, without having to say anything, he was pretty much radiating 'you did that on purpose' at her. "I always tell my cousin he doesn't give himself nearly enough credit," she said lightly, after Malcom spoke up at last. "I don't know a lot of the details, myself. Anubis would, though. He was there, after all." A bright smile was offered to the glowering pokemon. "From what little I heard, he was fairly instrumental in the fight, at that." The irritated expression melted into panic and Anubis backed up quickly into the machinery behind him, paws raising up as if trying to ward off the inevitable attention. "I was not! It was a whole bunch of crazy luck, that's all! It's not like anyone could have expected that I'd make a poke-sicle from the Creator!" he yelped defensively. The lucario glanced around furtively at all the people staring, looking abashed and almost a bit guilty as well. "Really, it wasn't... I didn't do that much... really..." It was pretty clear that if Anubis could sink into the floor and vanish, he'd be doing so right about now. And getting Ben and throwing HIM to the wolves here was starting to sound like a better idea all the time. Edited by Darth Eevee, Feb 15 2015, 06:02 PM.

Suddenly, the stares transitioned from Kate towards Anubis, as if sheer shock and fascination were on their minds and faces. Malcom seemed to stare the hardest, as if totally surprised such a thing was even possible. He was immediately on one knee in front of Anubis. "To battle against something so powerful and be instrument AND survive! Surely, Anubis, you could regale us with a tale of such an exploit! Of course, we'll need to collect data from you and your trainer as well in order to verify your claims, but such a battle would surely be worth telling us all about, yes? PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE?!" He asked, putting his hands together, as if in prayer, practically begging the Pokemon to tell his side of the story. |

Anubis couldn't plaster his ears any flatter against his skull, but he sure tried to. However, any sort of attempts at protesting he was mustering were completely defeated by Malcom's last word. The lucario sagged and sighed. "I... if you say so. It really was mostly dumb luck, though, my part in all that mess. I was just trying to buy some time for people and then... bam. Giant ice cube." The lucario raised one paw as he spoke, curling the toes in and shifting stance slightly. At the word 'bam,' he punched the air in front of him as if in demonstration, frost crackling over his fur as he did so. "After that actually worked somehow, it was something of a foregone conclusion, I guess. I don't know. It's not really my story to tell. I'm not the one who came up with the strategies or anything..." The lucario plopped down to sit like any other dog might with another sigh. "I have no idea what you're wanting for this 'collecting data' business, though..." He looked a little nervous. Hopefully it didn't involve anything very intrusive. Kate smiled faintly and reached out to ruffle between the fighting type's ears, which he ducked away from with a growl. "I'm sure it's not that bad, Anubis." She glanced around at the attentive crowd, then to Malcom, and then back at the lucario. And apparently decided to take pity on the pokemon at last. "How about this, Mister Tian? We finish figuring out what I need to do to get started as a trainer at the moment." She moved between the lucario and Malcom, to look into his eyes squarely. "Once we've figured out the starter business and what my options there are, I'll go back and talk with my cousin and you can see about customizing that brace and dex for him." She paused a moment or two, thinking. "I can bring him in a couple days when things are done, then, and you can talk with him about the whole Avatar business and the like then. Would that work?" It might be nice to ask them to come out to the edge of town to meet with him, but probably the whole data business required one or more of the fancy machines in the room that weren't very portable. |
