Place your Pokémon like this, leaving Kakuna (String Shot) to stun the western side Onix, while having your three damage dealers; Charmander (Ember), Rattata (Quick Attack), and Pidgey (Tackle) and Metapod (String Shot) to slow them up. After killing the first Onix, the second should waltz right into your Pokémon, great!

Step 2: Posted Image

Move your Pokémon to the top of the gym in order to take down the third Onix

Step 3: Posted Image

Repeat on the southern side to clean up the final Onix

Personally I like to skip the string shot altogether, leaving Kakuna/Metapod benched for the entire challenge.

The Onixes will use rock polish on themselves, greatly increasing their speed. This might look scary, but you can use it to your advantage with Pidgey's sand attack, forcing them to drop the Pokeball and run back towards the middle, where your attackers can defeat them.

The two on the left/right will get the ball first, but if you manage to keep it out of the center (which it's almost impossible NOT to do when using sand attack), the top and bottom Onixes won't even be able to touch the ball.
