In Pokemon Diamond when looking at Pokemon stats, you will see icons that say if attack is physical or special. So in PTD somebody may have problem with this, because there aren't these icons. So what do you think about adding these icons to attack's? |

I believe the split into physical and special attack has been made much earlier than in diamond and pearl... That's why I thought it was pretty obvious to everyone so I went with the icons ![]() here are some links Kimmy http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Physical_move http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Special_move http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Status_move |

Sort of See before DPP a move was physical if its type was physical: fighting, ghost, bug, rock, flying, ground, normal, steel, and poison. And the special types: grass, water, fire, ice, electric, Dragon, psychic, and Dark, were all special attacks. So moves like crabhammer, thunderpunch, and outrage were considered special attacks, and fueled by the special attack stat. In diamond/pearl a move was physical or special based on whether the makers of the game thought the move was better represented as special or physical. This greatly aided pokemon like MIghtyena, and Kingler who had great physical attack, but whose stab moves were run off their much less impressive special atack. |

Physical attacks should be those that actual involve hitting the opponent with a punch or something "physical" (duh) while special attacks should be those that involve casting thunders and stuff like that, more like indirect combat. I believe some pokemon have more defense when it comes to physical attacks or special attacks, and maybe these icons would help choose which attacks to use when fighting certain pokemon. |

Well I'm pretty sure it's in the game already. Otherwise what would be the point of Sam adding all the pokemons stats? It's only about icons now Dollface. |

Physical attacks run off teh attack to determine how well a pokemon performs the attack, and defense is used to calculate how well a pokemon would resist Physical attacks. Physical attacks, as stated above, are related to physical contact (ie, punches, kicks, tackles) Special attacks run off the Special attack stat (sp. attack for short) to determine how well a pokemon performs the attack, and special defense (sp. def) is used to determine resistance to special attacks. Specials attacks are, for lack of a better terrm, elemental moves that dont require physical contact (ie. thunder bolt, ice beam, flamethrower) there were several moves that break this rule, but i wont go in-depth into that Summary: physical attack: attack. defense stat reduces damage Special attack: special attack stat. Sp. attack stat reduces damage |

Thats not right, firestar, and isnt obvious as you say. Grass Knot, for example, is a special move with contact. Earthquake, in other hand, is a physical move without contact, just like Razor Leaf. So, ontopic, i agree with Brzoza: There SHOULD be an icon or some other kind of indication to tell us what is the move's category. However Sam, i believe, isnt worried with those... aesthetics stuff as much as he is with normal stuff. So, until its done, i suggest you to check any good pokemon site (serebii.net, for example) |

That and defence difference- Physical defence hit with a physical attack will make the attack weak Special Attack hitting a physical defence will deal normal damage |

Except for psyshock, secret sword, or psystrike. Those are special attacks that hit physical defense. |
