Hello, members of the PokeTD Forum. I'm pleased to announce that Sam offered for me to help re-balance the moves in PTD. I accepted because, I like helping out with these things and I thought it'd be fun. You guys may help with this by suggesting moves for me to nerf/make better in the game. I don't want any suggestions on drastic changes unless it's really needed, only minor ones. I will look at the availability of the move and how easily learned it may or may not be as well as it's special effects. You may also suggest some modifications to the mechanics of some moves. So far here are a few of my proposed changes: -Rock Blast be brought up to base 20 power while fury swipes and double slap be nerfed down to 15. (Rock Blast is less widely available then fury swipes and double slap. Only the geodude family gets it at like level 25 (well and if you count pokemon not in the game- Rhyhorn) while double slap and fury swipe is learned by quite a few pokemon) -Bubble beam being brought down to base 40 power while Flame Burst be brought up to 40 power OR having a chance of burning the enemy. (Strangely Flame Burst can't burn the enemy) (Powder Snow is a base 40 power move but it has a special effect. Flame Burst has a power of 40 but it has no special effect while Bubble beam is a base power of 45 move yet it has a special effect.) -Fury Cutter having a base power of 30, 60 then 90 then back to 30. Even if you hit a different pokemon it'll still have the power it was supposed to have. (Like if it had a power of 30 it'd hit the target for a base power of 60.) (Right now it's easy for the target to avoid the second fury cutter so it's usefulness is lowered and in the games fury cutter works kind of like this.) -Seed Bomb having an actual bomb effect. It could lob up and then fall down and make a small explosion and anything that is in the explosion will get hurt. (Let's face it, who doesn't want a cool bomb effect? It'd be more variety and a few other moves could be like this. Right now seed bomb is kind of bland.) -Rapid Spin, Petal Dance, Earth Power and Silver Wind being aoe moves. (They make more sense that way.) -Twister, Gust and Leaf Tornado creating a small tornado that will stay on the stage for a few seconds and any pokemon that passes by it will get hurt for a small amount of damage. (Again more variety. These kind of moves are good for Tower Defense games and strategies.) -Mega Punch having a similar effect to my proposed seed bomb except it'd make a small shockwave. (Mega Punch is basically a weaker Take Down right now and a body slam that can't paralyze and that's why it needs to be more unique.) -Toxic spikes needs to not affect flying or levitating pokemon and when poison types step over it the spikes need to be removed, like in the games. Also the pokemon that uses toxic spikes usually uses it too late...it needs to use the attack earlier then it is using it. Maybe it's duration could be a tad longer too. -Stealth rock needs to go in effect earlier too, it takes like 10 seconds for it to finally go on the ground. Maybe it's duration could be a tad longer too. -Sleep moves cooldown be reduced to 54. (Other then Spore which should be reduced to 108.) Right now these moves have way too high of a cooldown to be even remotely useful and when they do activate it has a good chance of missing. Spore should be 108 because...well it has 100% chance to make whatever it hits fall asleep and it hits all pokemon around it. -Subsitute doll should activate faster and block status. When pokemon are selected to use subsitute they don't use it until after a while and it's usually too late. Blocking status would also make the move more useful and in the game it blocks status. (Whirlwind and Roar still affect pokemon using subsitute though.) -Zen Headbutt's power should go up to 65. Right now it's just a psychic type headbutt and in the games it's stronger then headbutt. 55 is way too low for a move that isn't widely available and is learned at late levels. -Dig should also be like Mega Punch and Seed Bomb. The pokemon using it would go underground then after a very small amount of time it'd come up and create a small shockwave and hurt every enemy pokemon that is in it. Dig should be like in the games where you have to wait a little bit for it to damage the enemy and this is the one of the best ways to do it while it still being useful. -Sandstorm should raise rock types special defense by 50% like in the games. Any comments/suggestions about my proposed changes and suggestions for new changes are welcomed. Please note that there are other moves I plan to talk to Sam about to re-balance them. Fury cutter's power increase needs to work even when youre hitting a new pokemon, like maybe have it get more powerful slowly or have a power cap of like 150 or something but it being constantly weak due to changing targets is fairly lame. Bug bite is also a negligable move in the game, the only one it currently even benefiets is beedrill, and hes already crazy weak. Rain Dance's effect could also be boosted. The Spit up and Stockpile combo doesnt really do that much damage despite having a base power of 300, my low kicking mankey was pulling the same damage on kyogre as my spit-upping arbok, and to make it worse, when stockpile starts wearing off you need to fully let it wear off or it ignores the fact that you've stockpiled again. Moves like gust and leaf tornado could move faster, they take a while to actually hit the target, and in that time i could have used two of another move. Aqua tail is also fairly slow but it isn't as bad.

I agree with fury cutter, it should be 30, 60, 90 then back to 30 and not be dependent on hitting the same pokemon for the power to go up. I don't really know what Sam could do with improving bug bite. ![]() And what do you mean by rain dance's effect boosted? It's already really powerful. For gust, leaf tornado and twister I think Sam should change the mechanics by making the attacks make a little tornado that will stay on the field for a short amount of time and any pokemon that passes by the tornado will take some damage. It wouldn't last nearly as long as stealth rock though. |

There are currently almost no good ground type moves (as most of them have power 30) and I reallly think that earthquake is standing back a little (power 20? cmon). |

Also, in the future, EQ will hit your own pokemon too. Then its power will be rised. |

Well Pombo explained that. Added a few move changes that might be nice to see. Also the base power isn't everything. Bulldoze a power of 30 is probably the best move in the game because it hits multiple pokemon and slows whatever it hits down. Bump. Added a few new move change suggestions, I'd appreciate if you commented on them and I hope Sam sees this thread soon. I contacted him earlier but he hasn't responded. o3o Edited by Professor Smeargle, Aug 9 2011, 01:15 AM.
