Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed

A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week.

Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised.

On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads.

By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions.

Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time.

Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

Mike! That's Blasphemy! Now go and perform 12 Hail Mary's!

I was watching Live at the Apollo last night on Comedy Central and the American commedian Rich Hall was on. He said:

"I've just come back to the UK in the last few months (This was filmed last year) and when I left, Gordon Brown was in charge. When I get back I find two Gay Antiques Dealers running the country!" :D

If you want to cause a traffic congestion, may as well do it in style !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4U1PV4xg4E

Have you ever had that feeling of driver’s distress when you’re trying to parallel park and then a car comes up behind you, pressuring you to get it right on the first try — and quickly? The driver of this Fiat 500 trying to make a U-turn in a tiny car-lined street in Naples, Italy, is sure to know the feeling.
At first he is just doing his thing — making progress inch-by-inch in the many point turn it would end up being before he turned himself around — then a car comes up on one side, adding some pressure.
Within a few moments another car boxes him in on the other side.
Then the stress-inducing honking starts and gawkers are brought to the scene to more stress
In less than two minutes, more cars begin to box everyone in and more spectators come out. In their defense, some people eventually start trying to help direct the Fiat driver.
Then — and you can’t make this up — a motorcycle gang shows up. Then there’s a lot of Italian yelling.
If you thought the motorcycle gang was about as crazy as the whole backup would get — think again. Enter a religious procession.
Midway through, the person filming the situation decides to leave his bird’s-eye-view and go down among the chaos. There he captures more in-your-face Italian yelling and honking.
Although everyone was so mad at the Fiat driver for causing such a mess, they were all so excited when he finally was able to unstuck his vehicle. They chanted “Bravo!”
As of now, we can’t say for sure if the event was staged. But either way, as you might expect, such a fiasco couldn’t remain hidden from the Internet for long. The video has gone viral since its posting last week, being reposted to YouTube several times with the original video receiving 1,800,000 views and other videos receiving thousands of hits as well.
Watch the nearly 10 minutes of building chaos from one car’s actions !!!!

Traffic fears over Berkshire LaplandUK plan

A Christmas-themed attraction in Berkshire will have "adverse impacts on traffic safety", a Berkshire council has said. LaplandUK has applied for a three-year temporary licence to trade at Whitmore Bog near Bracknell. But Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council has raised concerns about the site's location.

LaplandUK said organised tours and pre-purchased tickets would avoid a mass exodus of visitors. Spokeswoman Kate Etteridge said pre-selling tickets provided accurate information when planning visitor car numbers. She added:
"Provision will be made for all visitors to be parked onsite. A day trip to LaplandUK follows an organised tour for each family lasting three-and-a-half hours."

Bracknell Forest Council has recommended approval for the attraction in its Ascot ward. But Windsor and Maidenhead Council, which borders the site, said it would coincide with other busy events in the calendar, such as Ascot Christmas races. It said a town centre location where "more sustainable transport options are closer at hand" would be preferable. LaplandUK previously operated in Lamberhurst, Kent, but owners Mike and Alison Battle indicated their plans to relocate to the Bracknell area last year. Plans for Whitmore Bog, which is land owned by the Crown Estate in Swinley Forest, went on display in May. If approved, it would operate between 30 November and Christmas Eve this year and between 21 November and Christmas Eve in 2014 and 2015. All buildings and facilities would be removed from the site in the intervening periods.

Nearly 300 objections have been received along with a 47-signature petition raising concerns over traffic congestion, health and safety and the impact on the natural environment. More than 400 submissions have been sent in support of the plan.

Bracknell Forest Council's planning committee will debate the application on 22 August.

TRAFFIC lights at a busy junction in Slough

A temporary roundabout had been set up at the Windsor Road junction with Chalvey Road East and Albert Street while improvement works took place.

The works were part of a £1m overhaul to ease congestion.

Three collisions in the space of two days last week led to many complaints about the temporary roundabout which has been in place since April 16.

The works were only supposed to last for 12 weeks and police have attended a total of 14 collisions along the Windsor Road since May 1

Major roadwork programme starts

Major roadworks have started in Wargrave and on the inner distribution road (IDR) in Reading. The A321 between Henley and Wargrave will be shut for three weeks while a gas main is replaced. The diversion will be around A4130 White Hill and Kentons Lane, down to the A4 Bath Road. As a result, the 850 Arriva Bus between Twyford and Henley has been cancelled

Resurfacing work has started on the IDR from Chatham Street to Abattoirs Road. The work on the IDR will take place between 08:00 BST to 20:00 and is expected to finish on Tuesday. The IDR will remain open and most work will be carried out using lane closures, however the slip road from Chatham Street to Caversham Road may close temporarily. There may be short periods when traffic will be stopped while working on the narrowest parts of the road. If this happens there will be signed diversions.

A Christmas-themed attraction in Berkshire has been given the go-ahead despite concerns over traffic levels

LaplandUK's application for a three-year temporary licence to trade at Whitmore Bog was approved by Bracknell Forest Council. Neighbouring Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council had raised concerns about the site's location.

The company said it will employ 250 new staff and inject £3m into the local economy. Nearly 300 objections were received along with a 47-signature petition raising concerns over traffic congestion, health and safety and the impact on the environment.

Windsor and Maidenhead council, which is next to the site, said it would coincide with other busy events in the calendar, such as Ascot Christmas races.

LaplandUK insisted organised tours and pre-purchased tickets would avoid a mass influx of visitors. More than 400 submissions were sent in support of the plan.

The attraction is due to operate between 30 November and Christmas Eve this year and between 21 November and Christmas Eve in 2014 and 2015. All buildings and facilities would be removed from the site in the intervening periods.

MOTORISTS will face traffic problems on the A34 for three weekends - starting tomorrow

Three very large transformers weighing 640 tonnes each will be moved from Didcot power station to the Avonmouth docks.

The second and third weekends of the transformers’ move will add to the chaos caused by the month-long revamp to College Farm Bridge near Beedon which will see the southbound carriageway on the A34 shut from 10pm on Friday, November 15, until 6am Monday, November 18, and the northbound closure from 10pm Friday, November 22, to 6am, Monday, November 25. Through traffic will be directed on a 68-mile diverstion via junction 8-9 of the M4 and the M40.

Due to their size the transformers will be travelling very slowly - taking four hours to travel from Didcot to the M4 - and tomorrow the first one will travel to Membury services on the M4 causing disruption for motorists.

The second transformer will leave Didcot power station at around 6pm on Friday, November 15 and travel the A4130 to Milton Interchange before going on the A34 southbound and then park overnight on the closed carriageway of the A34 just before the M4 junction at Chieveley to avoid the A34 southbound closure.

The load will then move off again on Saturday morning [16] but if the planned road closure doesn’t take place it will travel direct to Membury services overnight on the Friday instead.

The third transformer will move from the power station at 9am on Friday, November 23 and continue its journey to Membury services the same day.

REPAIR work to the bridge over Junction 7 of the M4 is expected to last until the end of May 2014.

The work started on Thursday, October 10 and drivers are warned to expect delays of up to 10 minutes during peak times as lanes are narrowed.

The westbound exit sliproad will also be closed during the work, but this is not expected to happen until April.
