Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed

A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week.

Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised.

On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads.

By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions.

Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time.

Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

FLOOD UPDATE: River levels continue to fall

THE future is looking brighter for residents and businesses as river levels are continuing to fall. Residents and businesses in Old Windsor, Wraysbury, Datchet and Horton were all hit hard as river levels on the Thames peaked over the weekend with hundreds of homes affected.

Flood warnings remain in place for the four villages, but water levels have started to subside, with levels reducing by around 20cm overnight at Old Windsor, Datchet and Romney Lock measuring stations.

Royal Borough councillor Colin Rayner, ward member for Horton and Wraysbury, said:
“There is more than 200 houses affected in one way or another according to the parish council. The community has really come together to rescue each other, but now 12 months of clean-up work starts.”

The latest Environment Agency update says that the river levels remain very high in the affected areas, and are expected to remain high for some time, but it is falling slowly.

Drivers have been warned of icy conditions later this evening as temperatures drop to below freezing.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham for this evening and tomorrow morning.

There is still a lot of surface water on roads around the three areas which could freeze and cause treacherous conditions.

The agency warn clearing skies will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing quite widely this evening and night, leading to icy stretches on untreated surfaces which will last well into Tuesday morning.

Another potential problem drivers face is further rain coming from the north, which is feared could wash away grit from the road surface and subsequently freezThird Thames bridge petition gains 300 signatures after floods close Sonning

Adele Harbor has created the on-line petition to highlight the desperate need for a bridge to connect the A329M to Caversham

Yep, two main options it would seem; one as you say by Pangbourne/Mapledurham and the other an extension of the A329 by Suttons ...
