Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed

A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week.

Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised.

On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads.

By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions.

Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time.

Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

UK floods: January rain breaks records in parts of England

Early figures suggest parts of England have had their wettest January since records began more than 100 years ago.

The Met Office said much of southern England and parts of the Midlands had already seen twice the average rainfall for January by midnight on Tuesday - with three days left in the month.

And it is warning of more rain, as well as snow and high winds, for much of the UK in the coming days.

In Somerset, the military is preparing to help flooded areas.

Up to and including January 28, the South East and central southern England had 175.2mm (6.9in) of rainfall in January - beating the previous record of 158.2mm for the same parts of England set in 1988.

Across south-west England and south Wales, the 222.6 mm (8.8in) of rainfall up to midnight on Tuesday meant January 2014 was already the fifth-wettest on record.

The Met Office has issued numerous yellow warnings - the lowest of its three alert levels - for the next few days.

A rain warning for south-east England expired at 12:00 GMT, but a new warning covering most of southern England, southern Wales and parts of Northern Ireland has been issued for the period from 08:00 on Friday until the early hours of Saturday morning. Parts of central Scotland and northern England are being warned of snow on Friday.

The Met Office is also warning of high winds for many western parts of the UK on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyway, the river has risen over the low part of the bank behind Loch Fyne restaurant now.
Thought I saw that before ^o) Where is the Loch Fyne restaraunt Steve?
Opposite the Riverside entrance to the Oracle, where the old Yell/Bank of Ireland building is. Fobney Street I think.

Might you have some issues where you live Steve by that river that runs parallel to the A33?

The Pedestrian/Cycle path in front of the Hilton has been flooded for a couple of weeks already, but even the front of Kennet Island is substantially higher up. Where I am near the top end, a few minutes walk from the Basingstoke road, it's even higher so we should be ok! B-)

My sister-in-law sold her house in Purley last year, nothing to do with potential flooding, she just wasn't happy there. She could not have timed it better, there's no way in a million years anyone would buy it now.

How high up is that water normally daib0? I'm assuming that's bunting to the left of the tree?

We had a bit of today with a bright yellow ball in the sky - reports of this strange phenomenon have been reported to NASA for investigation! ;) Course it's now raining again just to prepare us somewhat for the next big storm which I believe is tonight & tomorrow morning.
AFCB fan in peace!
