WINNERSH BBC News Berkshire Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day. The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week. Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised. On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads. By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions. Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time. Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

Not far from you, Clyde ... Newbury flood defences work begins Work has begun to improve flood defences along the River Kennet in Newbury. The scheme, which has been designed by the Environment Agency, will see tow paths in Victoria Park raised and new flood kerbs installed. The flood alleviation work aims to reduce the chance of flooding to 1% in any one year. More than 380 homes are set to benefit from the improvements with the scheme expected to be completed next month. Temporary tow paths will be constructed through Victoria Park while the work is carried out. An Environment Agency spokesman said: "Newbury is vulnerable to river flooding. Its canal and river banks and water levels are as much as 2.5m higher than the surrounding floodplain. There were floods in 1947, 1960, 2000 and 2003. Newbury also experienced flooding from surface water and groundwater in 2007 and there is a separate investigation into these sources of flooding." The new flood kerb will protect residential areas at the north end of Victoria Park and the A339. There are also expected to be benefits for the Faraday Road area. |

Lambourn Valley - Sewage flooding meeting called Residents in west Berkshire will get the chance to ask questions on recent flooding at a public meeting later. Properties in the Lambourn Valley were affected by raw sewage flooding as the drainage network struggled to cope over Christmas. Newbury MP Richard Benyon will chair the meeting alongside representatives from West Berkshire Council, the Environment Agency and Thames Water. Mr Benyon believes residents need to be kept aware of the current situation. He said: "There's a threat that recent flooding might continue. There's currently high groundwater levels with sodden fields and valley bottoms leaving hardly anywhere for the water to flow. We've got to make sure people are best informed as to what can be done, what has been done and what will be done as well as giving them the opportunity to quiz the various agencies." The meeting takes place at Lambourn Memorial Hall from 18:30 GMT. |

Tonight's weather forecast currently predicting snow for much of southern England Friday/Sat. Not sure of how much at this stage but could potentially be quite heavy with disruption. Caused by mild air coming in from the west, hitting the colder eastern air. Turning to rain later as milder air wins. Forecast subject to change as usual but be warned particularly if travelling out on Friday. |

Its awful, hasn't been this bad since 2010. Bracknell is gridlocked as well, nothing moving, rather surreal. |
