WINNERSH BBC News Berkshire Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day. The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week. Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised. On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads. By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions. Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time. Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

BBC News The lives of people living along the Thames are considered no longer at risk as the Environment Agency has downgraded its severe flood warnings there. But people are still urged to be vigilant, with high water levels expected to remain owing to more rain. Two severe flood warnings remain in place in the South West. Meanwhile, the government has urged insurers to deal with flood claims as quickly as possible. As the prime minister earlier unveiled a £10m fund to help businesses recover from floods, his spokesman confirmed No 10 would hold a meeting with insurers on Tuesday. David Cameron is urging the industry to offer more help to dry out the UK's 5,000-plus flooded properties. |

Slough & South Bucks Observer FLOOD UPDATE: Latest on roads and libraries reopening and police patrols as river levels continue to recede RIVER levels on the Thames are still falling, but residents are being advised to not move their sandbags just yet. The highest form of warnings - indicating a risk to life - was removed yesterday afternoon and river levels have continued to fall overnight. Severe flood warnings are no longer in place for the Thames from Datchet to Hythe End, but residents are being advised to keep sandbags in place just in case river levels do rise signficantly. Flood warnings and alerts still remain in place for the Thames Water levels have fallen across Slough. Many areas of Colnbrook previously flooded are now dry, and Slough Borough Council is advising residents to keep hold of any sandbags they may have in case water levels rise again. Residents who are concerned about flooding can email flooding@slough.gov.uk Latest update from the Environment Agency The latest update from the Environment Agency issued this morning reads: "River levels on the Thames from Datchet to Shepperton Green remain high but are currently stable. River levels are forecast to start falling over the next couple of days. Flooding of low lying land and roads is still possible. There are no longer any Severe Flood Warnings in force in the Thames area. Flood Warnings are in force for the area as widespread flooding to properties closest to the river is expected to continue. The weather prospects are: Showers are expected through Tuesday, clearing away in the evening, and more patchy showers are expected on Wednesday." Emergency services update The latest update from Ch Insp Lee Townsend reads: "Police officers continue to be visible in affected areas this afternoon (18/2), in Wraysbury, Datchet, Horton, Hurley Bisham, and Cookham. One of our neighbourhood policing officers attended a community meeting in Datchet last night (17/2), alongside other key partner agencies, where he updated local residents on the current flooding situation. The overall mood was described as positive with there being a real sense of continued community spirit. A similar community meeting is expected to take place for residents in Wraysbury at 7pm tonight (18/2) at St Andrews Baptist Church. We will be present to answer any questions or concerns raised. Working in continued partnership with the Local Authority, the Military, Fire and Rescue and the Environment Agency, our primary role remains to conduct high visibility patrols in those affected areas, checking on vulnerable people, offering reassurance, crime prevention advice and acting as a deterrent to crime and responding to incidents. We are currently investigating a burglary in Pococks Lane, Eton, which was reported to us yesterday (17/2). Two laptops and a computer monitor were stolen. The property was unoccupied at the time due to the floods. This is a good reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or persons to us immediately. People should also ensure that their properties and vehicles are secured at all times. While water levels reached their maximum yesterday, they are expected to gradually recede throughout the week. Although rain is expected today, the weather forecast for the next five days is not expected to see increased levels, which is reassuring. However, as a matter of precaution, we must not be complacent. As and when we start to safely move towards a recovery stage, police resources on the ground will be reviewed regularly. However, I would like to reassure local communities that police officers will always be deployable to respond quickly to local issues should they arise. Our intention is to relocate one of our operational bases, which is currently running at Wraysbury Primary School, back to Windsor police station over the next 24 hours, in order to allow the school to prepare for the return of its pupils next week. This will not adversely impact on the policing operation. We are also currently in consultation with the Local Authority to establish multi-agency community hubs which will provide temporary points of contact for residents." Health advice Flood water may be contaminated with sewage and animal or other waste and so may contain harmful bacteria or chemicals. However the risk of illness is low because of dilution in the high volume of water. NHS England has issued advice for people who come into contact with floodwater: -Wash your hands thoroughly if you come into contact with flood water as it can become contaminated -If you are advised by emergency services to evacuate your property due to flooding, don’t forget to take essential medicines and personal health items (such as prescription medicines and inhalers) with you. -If you are evacuated take appropriate warm clothing with you. -If you rely on a private water supply and are affected by the flooding - especially if your well, spring or bore hole head has been covered by flood water - you should assume the supply has been contaminated and not fit to use without boiling. Road closures The only roads still closed are: -Pococks Lane, Eton -Meadow Lane, Eton -Ferry Lane, Cookham -the B447 crossing the Pound at Cookham Surrey Council has also closed the A308 at Runnymede. Drivers are being urged to obey road closed signs do not drive into flood water. Car parks All Royal Borough-run car parks have reopened. Refuse and recycling collection The Royal Borough's waste and recycling collection contractor, Veolia, will be carrying out normal refuse and recycling collections wherever possible during the flooding. However, collections and new container deliveries will not be possible in places where access is prevented by flooding. Collections in these areas will be done as soon as access is possible. An extra waste collection vehicle is on it's way to Wraysbury to target streets that were inaccessible. The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Braywick is currently being used for flood-related parking which means green waste cannot be disposed of at the usual place. However, the service continues - a green waste collection vehicle is parked at the Civic Amenity Site further along the road. Toilet facilities Chemical toilets have been delivered to very elderly and infirm residents who cannot travel - more than 30 have been provided so far. Alcohol and gel hand washing facilities are available at Wraysbury Primary School. Portable events-style toilets have been provided and will be cleaned daily. They are available at: -Ham Lane, Old Windsor (3) -Meadow Way, Old Windsor (2) -Fairfield Approach, Wraysbury (2) -Weylands (near Wraysbury Primary School), Wraysbury (2) -Welley Road, Wraysbury, opp the junction with The Avenue (2) -Feathers Lane, Wraysbury (2) -Junction of Eton Road / Castle Avenue, Datchet (2) -Junction of Ditton Road / Horton Road, Datchet (2) -The Avenue, Datchet (2) -Neville Memorial Hall, Milley Road, Waltham St Lawrence (2) -Junction of Lightlands Lane / Bass Mead, Cookham (1) -Strand View Walk, Cookham (1) -Bisham Abbey Sports Centre, Bisham (2) -Elmwood, Maidenhead (3) Libraries -Datchet Library, in Horton Road will reopen from today. -The Wraysbury container library is not expected to be on site tomorrow. Cookham Causeway The Royal Borough has extended the opening hours of Cookham Causeway to: 9.30am - 1.30pm and 3.30pm - 5.00pm. These times will continue through the weekend and will be reviewed on Monday. lease note there is a 2 tonne weight limit on The Casueway. Signs show the opening times and there is marshalling of the access because of the need to have alternating one-way traffic and, for safety reasons, to make sure that pedestrians are not on The Causeway at the same time as traffic. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Please note there is a two-tonne weight limit in place. A shuttle bus service is running between 10am and 4pm daily to transport residents between Cookham Village and the shops at High Street, Cookham Rise. For more information, go to www.rbwm.gov.uk/public/cookham_to_maidenhead_shuttle_bus_service.pdf Public transport diversions -Trains are now running between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside after a week of flooding on the line. -The majority of services between Reading and London Paddington have been restored after flooding of signalling equipment between Maidenhead and Twyford. Funny how all the insurance companies are suddenly remembered that a lot of customers live near a river and they are not covered for it leaving people with big bills. The wriggle out of everything ,quick enough to take your money but full short when it comes to a claim. |
