WINNERSH BBC News Berkshire Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day. The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week. Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised. On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads. By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions. Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time. Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

Reading A4 Bath Road closure to be extended until end of May A stretch of main road in Reading is to remain closed for sewer repairs until the end of May Thames Water closed the A4 Bath Road by Liebenrood Road on 1 May and originally estimated repairs would last a week. But the firm said the damage to pipes was worse than expected. Reading Buses said it supported the repair work but the road closure had created "the worst traffic situation imaginable" at peak times. The bus company's head, James Freeman, said the closure in both directions had caused bus delays of up to an hour. He added the closure had a knock-on effect on other congested areas of Reading and was causing "real problems some distance away" on the Tilehurst Road and Oxford Road. Thames Water spokeswoman Becky Trotman said: "The more we dig, the more damaged sewer pipe we find." The firm needs to repair at least 20m (65ft) of pipe, which is 5.5m (18ft) underground. |

BBC News Drainage work set for flood-hit B478 Drainage work on a busy commuter road, which is regularly closed due to flooding, is due to begin later. Oxfordshire County Council plans to raise the B478 Playhatch Road to prevent future travel chaos around Sonning Bridge. The authority submitted proposals to the Environment Agency last month. Preliminary work on the road, which links the county to Berkshire and was closed for about six weeks earlier this year, will deal with blocked drains. The road carries an estimated 16,000 cars on weekdays. When closed, it causes severe traffic delays as drivers are forced to use Reading Bridge and Caversham Bridge to cross the River Thames. If work to raise the road is agreed, it is expected to take between 18 months and two years to complete. |

READING Reading motorists set for disruption as resurfacing work starts Motorists in Reading are facing at least seven weeks of disruption as resurfacing work has started on 19 different roads. The £1m project will affect main commuter routes including Norcot Road, Bath Road and Castle Hill. Tony Page, of Reading Borough Council, said weather conditions during the winter had taken their toll on road surfaces. He added the work was being done during school holidays to minimise disruption. |

Reading Buses timetable changes from Monday 1st September The temporary Summer timetables currently in use on most Reading Buses routes will cease after Sunday 31st August. Most routes will have new timetables from Monday 1st September; in most cases this will just mean new timings, but there are also some service revisions from that date. The main news is that the Nighttrack routes will be withdrawn in their present form, replaced mostly by later last journeys on the corresponding daytime routes. Route 21 finally gets its 24-hour service, and there are frequency improvements over parts of routes 15 and 33 and a new late evening service between Reading and Theale. Evening and Sunday journeys on route 33 will now follow the same route as the daytime daytime service, via Little Heath. There are no changes to route X9, Bronze 11, the Community Link services (18/28/28a), route 82/82k or the Loddon Bridge Park-and-Ride. There are minor timetable changes only on The Leopard 3, Orange 13 & 14, Purple 17, 'the nineteens' 19a/19b/19c, Pink routes 22, 25 and 27/29 and the Greenwave routes. Most of the new timetables are now available on the Reading Buses website: http://www.reading-buses.co.uk/articles ... le-change/ Jetblack 1: New timetable, incorporating later buses from Newbury to Reading on Mondays-Saturdays, with the last bus leaving Newbury at 20.05 (20.15 on Saturdays). Also a new late evening service on Mondays-Saturdays between Reading and Theale with the last bus leaving Reading at 23.00. The timetable also includes the late evening journeys between Newbury & Thatcham, operated by Newbury & District as route N1 (previously 100). Lime 2: Minor timetable changes only Monday-Saturday. New timetable on Sunday; Sunday buses will operate in a one-way loop at Burghfield Common via Reading Road, Recreation Road, School Lane and Clayhill Road; buses will no longer serve Mortimer Common on Sundays. Mint Green 5 & 6: Later last journeys on Monday-Saturday to replace withdrawn Nighttrack services. New timetable with an 8-minute frequency on both routes during most of the day Monday-Friday, and the ten-minute Saturday frequency continuing until 17.00. More route 6a buses to and from the Tesco Distribution Depot. Scarlet 9: Revised to run every 20 minutes during the day Monday-Saturday, co-ordinated with route 3 to provide a ten-minute service between Reading Town Centre, RBH and Shinfield Road. On Monday-Saturday evenings later last buses will run from Central Reading to Shinfield Road (the Maidens) as route 9a, continuing via Whitley Wood Road, Whitley Wood Lane, Basingtoke Road and Kennet Island back to Central Reading; these will replace withdrawn Nighttrack services. No change to peak-hour X9 journeys. Sky Blue 15: New timetable, with more buses for Dee Park. On Monday-Friday daytimes buses will run every 15 minutes between Central Reading and Dee Park, with a half-hourly service to Tilehurst Triangle as at present. On Saturday daytimes buses will run every 20 minutes between Central Reading and Dee Park, with buses no longer running to Tilehurst Triangle on Saturdays. All Journeys terminating at Dee Park will now show route number 15a - all buses towards Central Reading will display route number 15. Sky Blue 16: New timetable. Saturday daytime service changed to every 20 minutes, co-ordinated with route 15 to provide a ten-minute frequency along Oxford Road. Claret 21: New 24-hour service introduced, with an overnight hourly service, increasing to every 30 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights. This partially replaces the withdrawn Nighttrack service on route N21. During the University term time additional buses will run between Central Reading and University of Reading, with a bus up to every 5 minutes over this section; for the Autumn term these journeys will commence on 22nd September. Pink 23 & 24: Minor changes to the timetable. Later last buses on Monday-Saturday nights to replace withdrawn Nighttrack services. Yellow 26: Later last buses on Monday-Saturday nights to replace withdrawn Nighttrack services. New timetable with increased Monday-Friday frequencies: every 8 minutes peak, 10 minutes off-peak. Royal Blue 33: New timetable, with more buses between Central Reading and Tilehurst, and the evening and Sunday service to Turnhams Farm now following the same route as the Monday-Saturday daytime service. On Monday-Saturday daytimes buses will run every 10 minutes between Central Reading and Tilehurst Triangle, with buses continuing to Turnhams Farm every 20 minutes. Evening and Sunday buses will now follow the same route between Tilehurst Triangle and Turnhams Farm as the Monday-Saturday daytime buses, giving a service to the Little Heath area at all times. Buses terminating at Tilehurst Triangle will display route number 33a and will terminate at stop X in Walnut Way, behind the shops. All buses towards Central Reading will display route number 33 and will pick up at stop V next to The Plough. Nighttrack services N5, N9, N21, N23, N26 These will all be withdrawn in their present form. - Routes N5 and N9 will be replaced by later journeys on routes 5 and 6, and by new late evening route 9a which will operate via Kennet Island. - Route N21 will be partially replaced by the new 24-hour service on route 21.This does mean that Woodley will no longer have a late-night service after the 13 and 14 have stopped running. - Route N23 will be replaced by later journeys on routes 23/24 - these will depart Central Reading (Friar Street) as route 23 to Emmer Green, returning as route 24. - Route N26 will be replaced by later journeys on route 26. Official Publication: http://www.reading-buses.co.uk/articles/september-timetable-change There will also be minor changes to the Greenwave timetables from Monday 1st September.
