Flooded Loddon Bridge park and ride stays closed

A flooded park and ride site in Berkshire will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The Loddon Bridge site in Winnersh, which has a history of shutting after heavy rainfall, has been affected again this week.

Wokingham council said it hoped it would reopen on Saturday but with more rain forecast this could be revised.

On Thursday, motorists across Berkshire endured travel delays after heavy rainfall caused flooding on some roads.

By mid-morning the B4494 Oxford Road in Newbury was barely passable between the Grove Road and Love Lane junctions.

Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham were also closed for a time.

Flood alerts have been issued for Lower River Loddon, the River Pang and the River Blackwater at Swallowfield.

Cemetery Junction roadworks for 10 days to 5th September 2104

As part of the upgrade works to the Cemetery Junction area, the whole area will be resurfaced over 10 days from Tuesday through to Friday, September 5.
The roads will be completely upgraded in this time and it will no doubt cause some aggro as the work is done - 10 days of works is quite an undertaking.
Over the past few weeks, workers have been widening pavements, upgrading the crossings and installing a new shared pavement/cycle path.
Railings that separate the pavement from the road have been removed - not sure of the wisdom of this given the number of parents who live around the Junction. It has also meant the removal of parking spaces for cyclists who are using the local shops.

The resurfacing work will take place from 8pm to 5am every day, but it will still cause issues - no doubt temporary surfaces will be there during the day - and there will be diversions in place at times.

Amber weather warning for Friday in Reading.

"There is the potential for gales, or local severe gales, to develop across much of England and Wales during the first half of Friday, before easing by early afternoon. A band of heavy rain will accompany the low pressure system, this pushing quickly east through the day. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and perhaps power supplies."

Strong winds cause havoc across Reading

Severe gales have resulted in numerous problems

Gale-force winds have resulted in problems across the Reading area. Rail commuters have been left frustrated as trains have had their journeys delayed due to objects on the line. Rdgnow tweeted about problems involving a train which had been travelling from Basingstoke to Reading. It was reportedly hit at Mortimer. There have also been problems on other trains. There have been delays on trains between Reading and Didcot Parkway after a train struck an object. Two out of the four lines between the tow towns had to be closed, but are now back open.

Alok Sharma MP tweeted to say that there were intermittent powercuts in Pangbourne.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has not issued any severe weather warnings for Reading. The wind is not expected to change dramatically, but it is expected to be a lot colder on Saturday afternoon. And people are being advised to take care when out and about.

A Met Office spokesman said: "The winds currently are fairly consistent. One thing you will see is a bit of a temperature drop. You're looking at around 13 degrees on Friday night but by tea-time Saturday it will be about four degrees. But there are no warnings for the area at the moment."

Berkshire and Oxfordshire affected by high winds and storms

Storms and high winds left more than 500 people without power in the Abingdon area of Oxfordshire on Friday night

Energy company SSE said an overhead line had come down but engineers were on site to restore power. Elsewhere, residents from Gosbrook Road, Caversham in Berkshire spent the night in temporary accommodation after the gable end of a roof blew off.

In Oxford, a large fallen tree smashed a garden wall and a bicycle. No one was hurt when the tree in Alma Place fell but resident Anna Williams said she had been out with a saw to help people out of their homes. Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to a fallen tree in Wantage as one of about 20 call outs relating to Friday night's stormy weather. Radcot Road in Faringdon is currently closed due to a fallen tree.

In Berkshire, some trains were delayed on Friday due to objects on the tracks. Trains were not able to use the lines from Reading West to Basingstoke or Newbury due to fallen fencing on the track. Gosbrook Road in Caversham is still closed due to "debris from buildings", Reading Buses said, which has had to divert one of its services.

Reading West MP Alok Sharma tweeted there were "intermittent power cuts being experienced in Pangbourne". The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fallen tree that hit a power line in Wargrave Road near Wokingham.

The Met Office said on Saturday the stormy weather may continue with "a band of strong winds and sharp rain" crossing "quickly" across all parts of the South.

Windy weather warning for bank holiday weekend

Saturday set to be blowing a gale

Windy weather is set to hit Reading, Bracknell and Wokingham over the bank holiday weekend, the Met Office has warned. The winds may see gusts of anywhere between 45-65mph on Saturday, and could also be accompanied by heavy rain too. The gales are likely to become more widespread in the late morning and early afternoon before dying out later on, with temperatures on Saturday varying between 12-5C.

Before then, Good Friday will see a sunny start before clouding over later. Winds will stay low and there is virtually no chance of any rain.

Looking further ahead, Sunday will be gloomy with a high chance of rain as we go through the day and temperatures peaking at 9C. Winds will still be gusting at up to 35mph.

Easter Monday will see temperatures staying low - struggling to get into double figures. Expect rain around midday.

Yep off to Copenhagen on Wednesday. Only going for two nights but the flights for the four of us £118 in total there and back. Less than £15 a flight.
