Looks like the protesters have won,cue millions of EU funds showered on them and UK to roll out the red carpet to thousands of them.
I'm amazed that Russia haven't sent troops and tanks in to support the Ukraine government.
Would have done thirty years ago.

Out of all the leaders Russia has had Putin is the best I thnk,he don't let the likes of Cameron or Obama put on him and does what he wants regardless of what the world thinks.Wish we had one like him instead of governments following all the EU rules and worried about the PC Brigade. But alas,we never will.

There was one very sweet story from Ukraine where one of the woman who formed the human shield between the protesters & the police a couple of months ago received a text from one of the officers saying he wanted to marry her, she agreed to meet with him and they are now dating.

Things are hotting up in Ukraine. The Russians are massing troops around the Crimea area. Don't think this is going to end peacefully any time soon.

The Crimea is one of the areas Stalin viewed as critical for the old Soviet Union, so he exiled many of the local people (ethnic Ukrainians and Muslim Tatars, known as the Crimean Tartars) and moved 'good Russian people' in. Those 'good Russian people' are still a majority in the Crimean Peninsula, and may well cause mischief (along with troops from the Russian naval base in Sevastopol in the Crimea) for the new western-leaning regime in Kiev. Putin has set the stage, describing "massive violations of human rights in Ukraine", most of which are projected and not a matter of fact.

A cynic would say they have just been waiting for the chance/excuse really... I believe they are currently protecting the ousted leader as well?

Ukraine has accused Russia of carrying out an armed invasion by sending naval forces to occupy Sevastopol airport in the Crimea region.

Russia's Black Sea Fleet denies its servicemen are blocking the airport. Another Crimean airport, Simferopol, has also been occupied by armed men, thought to be pro-Russia militia.

Relations between the two countries have been strained since Viktor Yanukovych was ousted as Ukrainian president last week.

Mr Yanukovych is now in Russia and expected to hold a news conference later in the city of Rostov-on-Don, near the Ukrainian border. He disappeared after leaving office but resurfaced in Russia on Thursday, asserting that he is still Ukraine's lawful president.

Ukraine's general prosecutor has said he will ask Russia to extradite Mr Yanukovych, if it is confirmed that he is still there.

RUSSIA can muster
766,000 soldiers
15,000 tanks
2 and half million reservists
27,000 armoured vehicles

3082 aircraft
1000 helicopters

350 naval ships

That's a tidy force and they have probably all done their winter training.

OR .... negotiations perhaps???

Could ... Ukraine be split in half in a very short time??
