I understand where you are coming from daibo but ultimately Blyth cost themselves the title. They were out in front and even with games in hand we couldn't catch them. Then they went on a run of indifferent matches where they lost a few and the tables were turned. That is what cost them they didn't perform when it counted and they have done the same again in the play-off semi.

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division champions Darlington 1883 have announced that Stephen Thompson, Chris Hunter, Gary Brown and Terry Galbraith have all signed a new two-year contracts with the club.

Thompson has just enjoyed his third promotion with the club, having joined us just after the start of the 2013/14 season from Durham City.

“Thommo is an integral part of our squad, and he has just completed a great season. We are delighted that he’s staying,” said Darlington manager Martin Gray. He scored 10 goals in 41 starts for Quakers this season, and it was his goal that started the 7-1 rout of Whitby Town on that never-to-be-forgotten night.

Hunter joined Quakers in the summer of 2013, and has helped the club win promotion from the NPL First Division North and the NPL Premier Division in his three seasons. He started this season at centre-half, but moved over to right-back when Gary Brown returned to the club at centre-half and excelled at right-back for the rest of the season. Gray said: “Chris was very consistent at right-back, he kept opposing wingers very quiet.”

Brown returned to the club in October following a brief spell with Shildon, and played a key role as Quakers charged to promotion to the National League North. It was Brown’s third promotion with the club, having been part of the squad that won promotion from the Northern League and the NPL First Division North. “We’re delighted that Gary has decided to stay at the club,” said Gray. “He formed a very good central defensive partnership with Kevin Burgess, and they formed an excellent understanding. Nothing much got past them.”

Galbraith signed from Dunston UTS early in the Ebac Northern League season, and since then has been first choice left-back, although he has slotted in at centre-half and in midfield as necessary. He played centre-half at home against Stourbridge, and in midfield in the later games of the season following injuries to Tom Portas and Phil Turnbull. He has also become the club’s main penalty taker. Gray said: “Just like the others who have re-signed, I am delighted that Terry has agreed a new contract. He has done extremely well for us in the last four seasons.”

Lee Nogan — my old club will do well

Former Darlington player Lee Nogan says that his old club will do well in the Vanarama National League North in the new season

The former Welsh international played for Quakers in the 1999-2000 season, and was part of the team that lost in the League Two play off final to Peterborough at Wembley.

Lee is now the assistant manager at Gateshead alongside his former Darlington team mate, Neil Aspin, and was in the dugout for the match against his old club on Friday night.

“We watched Darlington in action when they beat Sunderland on Tuesday night, and we could tell that they are a very good team, with good shape and work very hard for each other. Based on the Sunderland performance, and the one against us on Friday night, there’s no reason why they can’t continue that improvement this season. Martin has done a fantastic job in the last four years, and I’m sure he’ll continue to do so because he’s very competitive and knowledgable.”

Lee was assistant manager at Halifax for their rise through the Conference North (as it was then) to the Conference Premier, and he said; “It’s a very tough league that Darlington are going into, it took us two seasons to get out of it. We lost in the play off semi final in the first season, and then we won them in the second. There are some very good teams in there this season, such as Kidderminster, Halifax, Boston and FC United, so it will be a tough old league. So if Darlington finish in or around the play offs, then it will be a great season.”
