For roughly 50 matches per season (including Cup competitions), hundreds of points are a virtual certainty, and high point top awards allow better 'definition' as you move thru the table of reward points, IMO. A few of my thoughts:

>Reduce the Scorer awards to say 2 points per scorer (from 5);

>Reduce the Bonus Question points to 2 points per match for each entry 'in-range' (from 5), but 3 points to the entry closest to (or tied for closest to) the actual value;

>Increase the Half-Time Score value to 3 points (from 2).

Giving a go for the opponent's scorer(s) is easy - I just check their team leading scorers (the BBC has this) and select as many of their top scorers as I think they'll get goals against Reading. It is a guess, but they are the other club's top scorers because they have shown they are more likely to score in the past.

Reducing the Scorer and Bonus points will be effective in dropping the total scores, and will make better predictions more important. Having those awards at 5 points but a correct half-time score at 2 seems very wrong to me; 2 and 3 for the half-time score seem more 'fair', but that's my opinion only. I note that those points have been very kind to me :$ , but I do think the reduction is a Good Thing.

I personally would go with the whole package! Next season though!!

Just my input/thought by the way

Quote:

8/16 points - correct draw e.g. you predict Reading 1-1 Wolves and the result is Reading 2-2 Wolves
7/14 points - correct outcome with correct goal difference e.g. you predict Reading 1-0 Wolves and the result is Reading 2-1 Wolves

Surely these are the same thing you have predicted the correct outcome with the goal difference the same. So why is the draw getting more points? Why not same points for both?

So, for your review, here's what I propose for this season:
______________________________________
Points System

10 points - correct result e.g. you predict Reading 3-1 Wolves and the result is Reading 3-1 Wolves (includes an exact draw prediction; draw result & correct score)
7 points - correct outcome with correct goal difference e.g. you predict Reading 1-0 Wolves and the result is Reading 2-1 Wolves (this result includes a draw with the wrong score e.g. you predict a 1-1 draw and the result is 0-0)
5 points - correct outcome with incorrect goal difference e.g. you predict Reading 3-1 Wolves and the result is Reading 1-0 Wolves
1 point - if you get the prediction completely wrong, you still get one point for taking part!

Bonus Points

You get bonus points for three things:

5 points - correct half-time score
2 points - correct goalscorers, for each goalscorer predicted that does indeed score (NOTE: this season you get points for correctly predicting the goalscorers of only Reading FC. You only get the points if Reading score the same amount of goals as you predicted or more. This prevents prediction of ridiculous scorelines for more points.)
5 points - correctly predicting the 'bonus question' within the specified tolerance. If one person comes closest to the actual value, that person will receive 7 points, but if two or more are both equally close, only the 5 points will be awarded.

Please put the score in this format:

Reading 2-1 Wolves (HT: 1-0)
Hector
Sa

...followed by your answer to the 'bonus question'...

Match bonus question is: How many total cards (yellow or red; a straight red counts as a single card, but a yellow/later red combination counts as 2) will Reading F. C. players collect over the match, according to the final BBC stats? Credit will be given for correct answers only; no room for variance will be allowed.

Good Luck!

First 5 matches and any following matches between Reading and a club in the Top 5 6 in the Table coming into the match are to be Gold Games, with all point values doubled. Any Cup matches against Premier League clubs also to be scored as Gold Matches.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Thoughts and suggestions?
I wish Owlish - gave up thinking for the new year's resolution!

Just the one - I always thought it a tad harsh on the over predicting scores bit. eg you could go 2-0, it finishes 1-0 and you lose your goal scorers. Why not allow a 1 goal over-prediction and take the goal scorers in order. eg If you predict 2-0 HRK & Pog and it finishes 1-0 your "revised guess is 2-0 HRK (Pog becomes irrelevant). Just a thought, may be too hard to administer?

I am happy whatever though, and you did a cracking job last season, so thanks again for all the hard work. :)

Great!

A couple of thoughts, but I go with majority no probs -

CARDS - yellow 1 'point', I'd put red card at '2' even if shown direct - for then a yellow and later receiving another for red means it's balanced with red direct, red alwaus would mean two ...

GOLD MATCHES - why do you see it top 5 teams and not top 6 ("play-off") teams? Just wondered ... papers usually show some lind of separation line or bold letter to differentiate top 6

Gwent. I personally feel your scoring proposal is too difficult! For me the simpler the better!

Agreed 'only' Reading scorers count, it's a Reading FC forum!
Agreed on everything else too, Should be great, I'm in!!!

That's just an example bonus question - they will vary from match to match. And we can certainly go with Top 6 for Gold Matches - to be honest, I forgot the playoff details!

(I'm hoping Reading is in the Top 6 all season, so there would only be 5 'other teams' in the range! ;) )

I'm far too optimistic for me to be a challenger for the title in this game, but I do enjoy playing it and will look forward to participating again this season.

Good improvements and no additional suggetsions from me.

Can I suggest an improvement on what you've put down Bill?

Maybe have a 'wildcard multiplier' where you can use it once and once only per season. This will double your points for this week.

It might just mean that people have more to play for later in the season rather than having 1 person run away with it all. The do similar things for fantasy football
