And I've just been making the same rubbish prediction each week! (Not sure if you saw, Owlish, I think you missed 8 points you should have given me against the Cardiff game... hehe). Thanks for doing that table, Owlish!! I do like stuff like this.

I'm sure, had I been motivated to enter guesses throughout the year that my average would have been far lower. I have only been guessing 0-0s because a) we don't have goalscorers b) our team lacks the motivation in the league c) defence has been solid-ish recently d) I could never be bothered with doing the research into the likely starters for both teams.

Either way, with the proposed new league format (of the prediction competition), I shall be looking forward to entering guesses (they won't be 0-0s) next season.

I checked all 3 Cardiff matches and only found one prediction for you, on the most recent, and it was good for only 1 point. Is there something else I am missing? Alas, that happens all too often...

Didn't we draw against Cardiff? I put 0-0 (of course). The game finished 1-1 so I should get 9 points total, right? 8 points for correctly predicting a draw and a point for participation.

You are indeed correct  (except for the 'Entry' point, which is only awarded if there is no other points won from the main entry - you get the 8 for correctly predicting the draw but not the exact score, so the 'Entry' consolation point is not awarded), and the scores and averages have been adjusted (amazing what a good night's sleep will reveal! ^o) ). My apologies! :$

Would be good to see how many games we have all entered predictions for and then we can see an average score/game for this season. Be interesting to see who is highest average and so the most consistent predictor.
Ask and thou shall receive (at least this once):

Player Name
Average ScorePredictions made
RoyalPITA9.2952
Bahamoth8.75*12
tidus_mi28.1850
diab07.7443
Camb-Royal7.6949
Gwent Royal7.6352
Owlish527.5753
Clyde19987.1050
mason1871rfc6.7351
Darlington6.3727
Tilehurstsouthbank6.0653
Zip5.8936
Royal Crisp5.7548
RoyalJoe5.4648
cribsie4.5540

It is very important to note that these averages are strongly affected by performance in the Gold Games. For example, tidus_mi2 had a game max score of 50 points (~1/8th of his point total) in the Derby FA Cup match; Clyde1998 and mason1871rfc each had 40 points (~1/9th their totals) in that same match, but Darlington, RoyalPITA and Zip had only 2 points each in the same match. Of course, it's almost all luck here, and a bit of determination to get a guess in. I included Bahamoth, as while he has a low number of predictions, he has been active (and successful! ) recently.

I tried to do some statistical analysis (an excellent way to lie with numbers, IMO) but every entrant had very high values for the standard deviation, which IMO confirms that this is a matter of luck and not skill or knowledge. I'd suggest a second data point to confirm that - I have done fairly well in the competition, and I'm likely the _least_ knowledgeable person :-/ about Championship football on the site! ;) :D :scarf:

*Adjusted to correct a scoring error.
Ant that shows why RoyalPITA is top with that average through 52 matches.
Excellent performance so well played to him.

Thanks for the averages by the way.

Prediction from Who Scored

•Rotherham will be safe with a win that would relegate Millwall and Wigan in the meantime.

•The Millers suffered a three point punishment last week but this game in hand is crucial.

•Reading have been poor lately with nothing to play for, not winning in nine.

Prediction: Rotherham 2 - 1 Reading
