So Labour are now in favour of an EU referendum? That was a mighty quick turnaround. They'll be in favour of repealing the fox hunting ban next

Not really Keith. All that Labour have said that the Tories won the election and as they had included a referendum in their manifesto they accept the electorate have spoken. As for fox hunting the Tories said it was a waste of Parliamentary time having a vote on banning it a few years ago. Funny that they don't see it as a waste of time debating repeal of the ban now. |

If Labour had firm policies which they felt were in the best interests of the country, they should have stuck with them. This reversal just makes them look weaker than they did before. Just my opinion you understand

Not really Keith. The referendum is going to take place and they have to get on with it. There is no point arguing against having a referendum as its happening. |

But having made so much noise about not supporting it, I just think they would have got far more respect had they stuck to their guns. This just seems to be a desperate attempt to get on board with something that is going to happen anyway, and try and make up the ground they lost by not being in tune with what many people in this country want. The electorate aren't stupid and will see straight through this ploy. But wheeling out the monotoned Harriet Harman to make the public statement won't have helped their cause. She's almost as patronising as Margaret Thatcher was. |

There seems to be a little bit of panic creeping in for some members of the Labour party with the surge in support for Jeremy Corbyn. There is a definite anti Corbyn faction within the Labour ranks. |

Yes there is. I am sick of the other Labour candidates talking in politician speak and acting like Tory lite. I hope Corbyn wins but it will lead to ructions. Edited by Zip, 12 Aug 2015, 06:39 PM.

Well, at least if Corbyn wins, a Labour party under him will give the electorate a clear distinction between them and the tories. Something which has been sadly lacking for the past 20 years. Just a shame that so many modern day Labour MP's have turned into poor mens conservatives, which will probably mean he's out on a limb. |

Exactly! The Scottish Tories in the 1990s were so opposed to a Scottish Assembly/Parliament that when it was introduced ('97 wasn't it?) after a referendum it was virtually the end of Conservative representation in Scotland - they were in the impossible position of campaigning for MPs to a regionalized Scottish Parliament that they didn't believe should even exist! Yep, you have to be VERY careful going against referendums
