To get the 2015-2016 Reading F.C. (and the RR Prediction Game) season started, the 21st-ranked Royals* are off to Birmingham to face the top-of-the-table (*since it is in alphabetical order at this point) Blues. Plenty of new faces for this new season; while Steve Clarke may not have collected his exact team, he has had much more input than last season's club. We may well see a few more additions, but this is the group that starts off the season - and they are undefeated so far this season! ;)

We have some changes in the RR Prediction Game as well:

  • We will split the game after 6 matches, with a Premier Flight and a Championship Flight, based on scores, with 2/3 of the entries in the Premier Flight and the balance in the Championship. Any new competitors entering after the 6th match will go into the Championship.
  • At mid-season (after 23 matches), the Flights will be revised with promotion of the Top 5 of the Championship to the Premier (and relegation of the Bottom 5 of the Premier to the Championship), half-season awards given, and a new half-season started. Slates for the second half-season will be cleared.
  • At the end of the season, second half awards will be given based on second half scores, and combined awards for total points over the full 46 matches will be declared. Should the same competitor win the Premier title in both halves, the title "Diamond Predictor 2015-2016" shall be awarded.
  • The first 5 matches of the first half, then any match (League or Cup) with a Top 6 standing (at that time) Championship opponent, and any Cup match against a Premier League club will be classified as a GOLD Match and scored with double the below points.
  • Each predictor will have one opportunity per season (not per half-season) to make a 'wildcard' call in advance of a match for his score for that match to be doubled. This may be done for a regular or a GOLD Match, but only once a season.

Points System - as this will be a GOLD Match, these point values will be doubled.

10 points - correct result e.g. you predict Reading 3-1 Blues and the result is Reading 3-1 Blues (includes an exact draw prediction; draw result & correct score)
7 points - correct outcome with correct goal difference e.g. you predict Reading 1-0 Blues and the result is Reading 2-1 Blues (this result includes a draw with the wrong score e.g. you predict a 1-1 draw and the result is 0-0)
5 points - correct outcome with incorrect goal difference e.g. you predict Reading 3-1 Blues and the result is Reading 1-0 Blues
1 point - if you get the prediction completely wrong, you still get one point for taking part!

Bonus Points

You get bonus points for three things:

5 points - correct half-time score
2 points - correct goalscorers, for each goalscorer predicted that does indeed score (NOTE: this season you get points for correctly predicting the goalscorers of only Reading FC. You only get the points if Reading score the same amount of goals as you predicted or more. This prevents prediction of ridiculous scorelines for more points.)
5 points - correctly predicting the 'bonus question' within the specified tolerance. If one person comes closest to the actual value, that person will receive 7 points, but if two or more are both equally close, only the 5 points will be awarded.

Please put the score in this format:

Blues 1-2 Reading (HT: 0-1) [Home x-y Away format]
Hector
Sa

...followed by your answer to the 'bonus question'...

How many total shots will Reading have in this match (per the BBC stats), with credit for being within 3?

Please feel free to review and comment, as this is your game and I am merely the administrator. If you feel I have erred in any way at any point, please let me know, either in the Prediction Game threads or by PM, and we'll get things straightened out!

Good luck to each of you, and good luck to the Royals!

What if he/she is in different leagues then? For me that's unnecesarily complicated, I'd prefer two half-yearly comps and that's that ... ;) :)

I'm open to either way - here, we have some competitions (like the AA baseball played locally in the Texas League) where you have a 1st half winner and and a 2nd half winner, then a playoff for the League Championship. We can not have a playoff. The idea of total season awards was to recognize overall performance, but I'm not overly fixed on the idea (it's easy enough to do - just add two numbers). The "Diamond Predictor 2015-2016" title is easy to award or not, and would certainly (IMO anyway) be earned if accomplished (really doubt it would be awarded very often, tbh - too much variation).

We really did not reach a consensus (at least not one I noticed) on this sort of thing, and it's very easy to adjust/drop at this point, and I'm happy to take it either way.
