Reading fined £100,000 for FA Cup pitch invasion

Reading have been fined £100,000 by the Football Association for failing to prevent a pitch invasion after their FA Cup quarter-final replay with Bradford

The Championship club won the tie 3-0 but have been found guilty of breaching FA rule E20, which they had denied, at the Madejski Stadium on 16 March.

Aston Villa were fined £200,000 in May for a pitch invasion during their last-eight win over West Bromwich Albion.

Reading lost their semi-final 2-1 to Arsenal after extra time at Wembley.

Too much?

It seems steep to me but we did have some morons who ran to the Bradford fans and started taunting them. Having said that the atmosphere was not hostile.

We earned £450,000 as being Semi-final losers, so that was a big chunk of that gone ...

Per the FA (link: http://www.thefa.com/news/governance/2015/oct/reading-fined-misconduct-supporter-behaviour):

£100,000 Reading fine reduced to £40,000 by Appeal Board

An Appeal Board has reduced Reading’s £100,000 fine for misconduct in relation to supporter behaviour after considering the club’s appeal.

The club were sanctioned by an Independent Regulatory Commission after a charge of failing to ensure no spectators or unauthorised persons were permitted to encroach onto the pitch area whilst attending the Emirates FA Cup quarter final replay against Bradford City at the Madejski Stadium on 16 March 2015 was found proven.

However, the fine imposed by the Regulatory Commission was reduced on appeal to £40,000 with the club being warned as to its future conduct.

Edit: The Club (link: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/club-statement-2731420.aspx) has now commented on the appeal results:

...The club appealed the charge and an initial fine of £100,000 and we are pleased that our appeal has been heard and upheld in our favour in terms of a reduced sanction.

However, after a total of 16 other celebratory pitch incursions took place at other stadia across the country last season, we were the only club penalised.
{italics mine}

Reading Football Club are regularly among the clubs with the lowest number of arrests and banning orders in the division and we are also very proud of our supporters’ reputation for good behaviour, both at home and away, as a club we remain disappointed by the decision and feel that the processes undertaken by the Regulatory Commission in these situations need to be reviewed in the future.

Still seems to be reason to be aggrieved and for the process to receive further review.

I think the fine is because objects, including smoke flares, were thrown into the Bradford end from people on the pitch.
