Physiogate

I'm sure everyone knows the story by now. Eva Carneiro is the first team physiotherapist for Chelsea. During the first game of the season against Swansea, with mere minutes to go, she tended to Eden Hazard after he tripped over. This meant that, for a short period of time, Chelsea were down to nine men (having had their goalkeeper sent off earlier on in the match). Ever since, Jose Mourinho has slated her in the press and, in a more recent development, banned her from being in attendance on the bench during matches, simply because she had caused a slight manpower problem on the field.

In response to this, both fans and other medical officials have condemned Mourinho's actions as using her as a scapegoat for Chelsea's performance in the game. The woman herself thanked her supporters publicly on Facebook, before a former Chelsea physio then had a go at this as well, saying she "was support staff, not one of the stars.

What do people think? Is Eva in the wrong? Or should Mourinho look in the mirror if he is looking to blame someone for the opening day draw.

Eva Carneiro: FA criticised over 'silence' on Chelsea team doctor

The Football Association has been criticised by a medical barrister for 'staying silent' over the treatment of Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro. The medic is yet to return to work at Stamford Bridge after being criticised by manager Jose Mourinho. Carneiro's role was downgraded after she and head physio Jon Fearn went on the pitch to treat midfielder Eden Hazard against Swansea in August.

"It's disappointing that the FA has said nothing," said Mary O'Rourke QC. The FA has yet to respond to the comments.

Carneiro and Fearn tended to the Belgium forward after he was tripped in the final minutes of the 2-2 draw with the Welsh club. It reduced Chelsea to nine men as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had already been sent off, and Mourinho afterwards said his medical staff were "impulsive and naive" and did not "understand the game". Although he was criticised for his remarks, Mourinho has not backed down. Chelsea refused to comment on what they see as an internal matter.

O'Rourke said it was "interesting" Chelsea had made no comment, but added: "They're not alone in saying nothing." Mourinho has said he has an "open relationship" with his medical staff that was "open to disagreement". Eamonn Salmon, chief executive of the Football Medical Association, said Carneiro was "treated harshly".

Speaking at football business conference Soccerex, O'Rourke added: "I don't believe those medics should be following the game. In my view they have people on the pitch who are their patients. They should be following them only and not the ball."

The incident will be discussed at world governing body Fifa's medical committee on 11 September. Carneiro is now in ongoing discussions with her lawyers.

O'Rourke says she hoped the matter did not end up in a legal dispute. "I would hope that because she's done nothing wrong - in fact perfectly correctly - I would hope we'll see both of them soon back on the bench," she added.

Eva Carneiro, the Chelsea physiotherapist, has left the club six weeks after she was criticised by Jose Mourinho. She may still claim from the club as there is talk that Mourinho used sexist language towards her. If she wants to I'm sure she would have no trouble finding employment straightaway as she has a good name in football ... wouldn't mind her at Reading in fact :$ :D

On the face of it she's got a very good case for constructive dismissal.
