After a 'road rally' at Portsmouth to continue on in the League Cup, the Royals are traveling again, this time to face Championship foe Brentford at Griffin Park, provided the freshly re-laided pitch is ruled suitable. Reading fans recall Griffin Park from last season's FA Cup tie against the Bees, where the pitch was arguably more suitable for sheep grazing than football. Effort was put into better preparing the pitch for the Championship season, but the initial results were not satisfactory, resulting in the postponement of one of Brentford's scheduled Championship matches. A new pitch has been laid down, using a hybrid Motz surface, combining natural grass with artificial fibres to improve durability and reduce damage from wear and tear. Installation was completed Wednesday for Saturday's match, with Reading and the FA interested to see the actual conditions come Saturday. Both Brentford and County Turf (providers of the new surface) personnel have expressed their satisfaction on the installation. It's obviously very early days for the new surface, but a photo on the Brentford web site (link: http://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/news/article/griffin-park-pitch-relaid-2649430.aspx) clearly shows significant seams in the new pitch, but hopefully these will settle in before match time. As for the match itself, Brentford has a one point advantage over Reading in the current Championship Table, with a 2 goal edge in goal differential, sitting 14th in the Table, 5 spots above Reading's 19th spot. The pitch conditions have required one of Brentford's scheduled Championship matches to be postponed, so their 4 points have come from only 3 matches (a win, a loss and a draw), while Reading have taken 4 matches to collect our 3 points (a loss and 3 draws). Brentford also has a loss in league Cup action, 0-4 to Oxford United, while Reading have 2 one-goal League Cup wins on their balance sheet. Can the Royals go to Griffin Park and return to Reading with all three points? What are your predictions for this match? Points System 10 points - correct result e.g. you predict Brentford 1-3 Reading and the result is Brentford 1-3 Reading. 7 points - correct outcome with correct goal difference e.g. you predict Brentford 1-3 Reading and the result is Brentford 0-2 Reading. 5 points - correct outcome with incorrect goal difference e.g. you predict Brentford 1-3 Reading and the result is Brentford 2-3 Reading 1 point - if you get the prediction completely wrong, you still get one point for taking part! Bonus Points You get bonus points for three things: 5 points - correct half-time score 2 points - correct goalscorers, for each goalscorer predicted that does indeed score (NOTE: this season you get points for correctly predicting the goalscorers of only Reading FC. You only get the points if Reading score the same amount of goals as you predicted or more.) 5 points - correctly predicting the 'bonus question' within the specified tolerance. If one person comes closest to the actual value, that person will receive 7 points, but if two or more are both equally close, only the 5 points will be awarded. Please put the score in this format: Brentford 1-3 Reading (HT: 0-2) [Home x-y Away format] Hector Hurtado Sa ...followed by your answer to the 'bonus question'... At what time in the game will a Reading player receive the clubs' first card (yellow or red)? Credit will be given for being no more than 10 minutes off the actual time of the card. If you predict that no Reading player will receive a card at all, enter 'None' as your prediction for the time. Edit: First card to Obita at 21:07. Good luck to each predictor and to the Royals!
