BBC Assisted Dying Bill: MPs debating the 'right to die' A passionate debate on the "right to die" is taking place in the House of Commons. MPs are discussing proposals to allow adults in England and Wales with six months or under to live to end their lives with medical supervision. Some have argued it would allow a "dignified and peaceful death" while others say it is "legally and ethically totally unacceptable". David Cameron says he is not in favour of a step "closer to euthanasia". See: http://www.bbc.com/news/health-34208624 Not to be taken lightly, but it's a 'yes' from me ... |

Dignitas in Switzerland has proved it can be done, in fact assisted suicides have been legal in that country since 1942. Its easy to see the moral arguments over this, but ultimately, surely it has to be the right of the individual to make a difficult decision like this. And I'd rather be able to decide to end my own life rather than suffer in agony for months waiting for the inevitable end. Many of those against it talk a lot about palliative care, but, in many cases, that just doesn't exist. Hospitals just don't have the money, or the nursing staff, to provide adequate palliative care. Only those who are fortunate enough to spend their last days in a hospice have any hope of that. |

No need to add to Keith's post. Says it all. |

Not much to add to Keith's point. The Scottish Parliament have thrice rejected it, however it's purely due to issues with the way it would be implemented. At the end of the day though, we shouldn't stop people from ending their life if they wish to. I hope this passes. |

It seems all those millionaire MP's who can afford the best Harley Street treatment, and so don't have to worry about the NHS care lottery, have decided the rest of us should suffer. |

No surprise. This issue will not go away though. Eventually a bill will come into law whether it be in five, ten or twenty years. It will happen. |
